Book Assessing Carbon Stocks and Modelling Win win Scenarios of Carbon Sequestration Through Land use Changes

Download or read book Assessing Carbon Stocks and Modelling Win win Scenarios of Carbon Sequestration Through Land use Changes written by Raul Ponce-Hernandez and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication contains a methodology and software tools for assessing carbon stocks and modelling scenarios of carbon sequestration developed and tested in pilot field studies in Mexico and Cuba. The models and tools enable the analysis of land use change scenarios in order to identify in a given area (watershed or district) land use alternatives and land management practices that can both maximise food production, soil carbon sequestration and biodiversity and minimize land degradation. The aims is to develop and implement "win-win" options that satisfy the multiple goals of farmers, land users and other stakeholders in relation to food security, carbon sequestration, biodiversity and land conservation. The publication also contains a CD-ROM including three case studies and a Soil-C program demo, program and user manual.

Book Economics of Carbon Sequestration in Forestry

Download or read book Economics of Carbon Sequestration in Forestry written by Terry J. Logan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-08-26 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1992 Earth Summit, there have been increased efforts on an international scale to address global climate change. Reducing the increased levels of CO2 and other "greenhouse gases," which are believed to be contributing to this climatic change, will require major effort on the part of the world's governments. This means that the environmental, economic, social, and political consequences of climate change must be understood, and that strategies to mitigate climate change must also address these issues. The workshop detailed in this book concentrated on how economic principles and analysis could contribute to the planning of forestry projects aimed at affecting terrestrial carbon balances. More than 30 international scientists came together for one week near Stockholm, Sweden and divided into working groups charged with addressing a specific issue and preparing a paper within this time frame. This book contains the majority of papers presented at this meeting, and includes both the working group papers and the individually presented papers.

Book Soil Management and Greenhouse Effect

Download or read book Soil Management and Greenhouse Effect written by John M. Kimble and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil Management and Greenhouse Effect focuses on proper management of soils and its effects on global change, specifically, the greenhouse effect. It contains up-to-date information on a broad range of important soil management topics, emphasizing the critical role of soil for carbon storage. Sequestration and emission of carbon and other gases are examined in various ecosystems, in both natural and managed environments, to provide a comprehensive overview. This useful reference includes chapters that address policy issues, as well as research and development priorities. The material in this volume is valuable not only to soil scientists but to the entire environmental science community.

Book The Forest and Agricultural Sector Optimization Model FASOM

Download or read book The Forest and Agricultural Sector Optimization Model FASOM written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1997-06 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Forest & Agricultural Sector Optimization Model (FASOM) is a dynamic, nonlinear programming model of the forest & agricultural sectors in the U.S. The FASOM model initially was developed to evaluate welfare & market impacts of alternative policies for sequestering carbon in trees but also has been applied to a wider range of forest & agricultural sector policy scenarios. This report describes the model structure & gives selected examples of policy applications. A summary of the data sources, input data file format, & the methods used to develop the input data files also are provided.

Book Assessing the Impacts of Climate Change on Natural Resource Systems

Download or read book Assessing the Impacts of Climate Change on Natural Resource Systems written by Kenneth D. Frederick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume characterizes the current state of natural science and socioeconomic modeling of the impacts of climate change and current climate variability on forests, grasslands, and water. It identifies what can be done currently with impact assessments and suggests how to undertake such assessments. Impediments to linking biophysical and socioeconomic models into integrated assessments for policy purposes are identified, and recommendations for future research activities to improve the state of the art and remove these impediments to model integration are provided. This book is for natural and social scientists with an interest in the impacts of climate change on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and their socioeconomic impacts, and policy makers interested in understanding the status of current assessment capabilities and in identifying priority areas for future research.

Book Solid Waste Management and Greenhouse Gases

Download or read book Solid Waste Management and Greenhouse Gases written by Barry Leonard and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2003-06 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 21st century, management of municipal solid waste (MSW) continues to be an important environmental challenge facing the U.S. Climate change is also a serious issue, & the U.S. is embarking on a number of voluntary actions to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) that can intensify climate change. By presenting material-specific GHG emission factors for various waste management options, this report examines how the two issues -- MSW management & climate change -- are related. The report's findings may be used to support a variety of programs & activities, including voluntary reporting of emission reductions from waste management practices. Charts, tables & graphs.

This book was released on 2010 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forests are important for carbon sequestration and how they are manipulated either through natural or human induced disturbances can have an effect on CO2 emissions and carbon sequestration. The 2009 National Silviculture Workshop presented scientific information and management strategies to meet a variety of objectives while simultaneously addressing carbon sequestration and biomass utilization. The focus areas were: the role of climate change in science and management; silvicultural methods to address carbon sequestration and biomass utilization; alternative silvicultural strategies to address the growth and development of forests; and current applications of computer simulation models or modeling techniques designed to provide decision support.
