Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last several years, it has been increasingly difficult to obtain funding for training programs. During budget review processes, the town administrators have scrutinized fire department budgets. One area of the fire department's budget that has typically been attacked by the budget committee axe is the training budget. There seems to be three things that town administrators want to keep: 1) current staffing levels, 2) the highest level of service to the community, and 3) reduce the tax burden to the resident by level funding. With contract negotiations and the need for new equipment or updating current equipment, one method of level funding is to cut department budgets in areas that will not reduce staffing or impact the purchase of new equipment. The training budgets therefore, are the first to be reduced. This research project was conducted to ascertain the availability of outside funding sources for fire training programs.
