Book State Assessment Policy and Practice for English Language Learners

Download or read book State Assessment Policy and Practice for English Language Learners written by Charlene Rivera and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: State Assessment Policy and Practice for English Language Learners presents three significant studies, each examining a different aspect of states' strategies for including English language learners in state assessments. *an Analysis of State Assessment Policies Regarding Accommodations for English Language Learners; *a Survey and Description of Test Translation Practices; and *an Examination of State Practices for Reporting Participation and Performance of English Language Learners in State Assessments. With the rise in population of English language learners and the subsequent stepped-up legislative focus on this student population over the past decade, states have been challenged to include English language learners in state assessment programs. Until now, the little data available on states' policies and practices for meeting this challenge has been embedded in various reports and professional journals and scattered across the Internet. This volume offers, for the first time, a focused examination of states' assessment policies and practices regarding English language learners. The three studies were supported by OELA, the U.S. Department of Education's Office of English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement, and Academic Achievement for Limited English Proficient Students. State Assessment Policy and Practice for English Language Learners is of interest to researchers and professionals involved with the assessment of English language learners; state- and district-level policy makers; and academics, teacher educators, and graduate students in a number of fields, including educational and psychological assessment, testing and measurement, bilingual education, English as a second language, and second language acquisition.

Book Alternate performance indicators for the state of Wisconsin standards for music education for students with cognitive disabilities and other developmental delays

Download or read book Alternate performance indicators for the state of Wisconsin standards for music education for students with cognitive disabilities and other developmental delays written by Leslyn E. Hooper and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The content and achievement standards for music in the K-12 school system contained in National Standards for Arts Education (1996) have quickly become accepted as the basis for most state and local music standards and frameworks. They provide a common foundation for music curricula throughout the nation. These national standards for music give the music teacher considerable freedom of choice not only in selecting learning materials and teaching strategies, but also in setting the performance standards by which student achievement is assessed. To meet the needs of all students with disabilities, Alternate Performance Indicators (API's) should be available for music teachers to plan an appropriate music program which supports the individualized educational plans of their students. This project will provide the reader with sample API's. Recent [state and federal] legislation charges all schools with the responsibility of providing suitable learning environments and qualified teachers capable of implementing a music education curriculum for nondisabled learners as well as learners with disabilities. Music is especially important for students with disabilities, while it has its own unique body of knowledge and skills, it can also be an effective vehicle to enhance learning in other areas of the curriculum.

Book Resource Guide to Airport Performance Indicators

Download or read book Resource Guide to Airport Performance Indicators written by Robert A. Hazel and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2011 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Explores airport performance indicators (APIs) for use in benchmarking and performance measurement. These APIs are sorted by functional type and their criticality to the airport strategic plan. More than 800 performance indicators are presented in three main categories: Core, Key, and Other APIs. "Core" or fundamental indicators are important for overall operation of the airport and of interest to the Chief Executive Officer or governing board. "Key" or departmental indicators are important for the operations of key airport functions and departments. The remaining "Other" indicators are considered useful as secondary departmental unit performance indicators but not critical to the airport's overall function. The printed versions of ACRP Report 19A include a bound in CD (CRP-CD-94) of the Interactive Resource Guide that is identical to the pdf that is posted online."--Provided by publisher.

Book To What Ends and By What Means

Download or read book To What Ends and By What Means written by Gloria M. Rodriguez and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique collection examines the social justice implications of contemporary economic, finance, and budgeting policies affecting the K-12 education system in the United States. The authors included in this volume provide critiques and explorations of several established theories and policy approaches that undergird contemporary thinking in the field of school finance. These explorations offer themselves as foundations for building new frameworks to understand how school finance policies might better support broader changes needed to improve the educational conditions faced by those individuals and groups traditionally underrepresented in economic, political, and social policy arenas.

Book excerpt: API Design for C++, Second Edition provides a comprehensive discussion of Application Programming Interface (API) development, from initial design through implementation, testing, documentation, release, versioning, maintenance, and deprecation. It is the only book that teaches the strategies of C++ API development, including interface design, versioning, scripting, and plug-in extensibility. Drawing from the author's experience on large scale, collaborative software projects, the text offers practical techniques of API design that produce robust code for the long-term. It presents patterns and practices that provide real value to individual developers as well as organizations. The Second Edition includes all new material fully updated for the latest versions of C++, including a new chapter on concurrency and multithreading, as well as a new chapter discussing how Objective C++ and C++ code can co-exist and how a C++ API can be accessed from Swift programs. In addition, it explores often overlooked issues, both technical and non-technical, contributing to successful design decisions that produce high quality, robust, and long-lived APIs. It focuses on various API styles and patterns that will allow you to produce elegant and durable libraries. A discussion on testing strategies concentrates on automated API testing techniques rather than attempting to include end-user application testing techniques such as GUI testing, system testing, or manual testing. Teaches the strategies of C++ API development, including design, versioning, documentation, testing, scripting, and extensibility Includes extensive code examples that illustrate each concept, with fully functional examples and working source code for experimentation available online Covers various API styles and patterns, with a focus on practical and efficient designs for large-scale, long-term projects Includes updated URLs and ensures all code examples continue to work with modern compilers and supporting tools

Book Neoliberalism Critical Pedagogy and Education

Download or read book Neoliberalism Critical Pedagogy and Education written by Ravi Kumar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the role of neoliberalism and its impact on education in South Asia. It contends that education is in a state of crisis across the world. This is reflected not only in the way the state has withdrawn to pave way for private capital but also in the manner in which knowledge and ways of understanding the world are being challenged by manipulation and adverse influences. A process of ‘factoryisation’ is underway as disciplining of human minds and redefinition of the purpose of human existence are being geared to fall in line with the needs of private capital. The book brings together incisive contributions from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal to explore newer possibilities to deal with the educational crisis, and looks at a range of critical themes in education: pedagogy, teacher–learner relationship, teacher education, the state of the university, and policy. Rich in content, critical and insightful, this book will be a valuable addition for scholars and researchers of education and education policy, sociology, public policy and South Asian Studies.
