While everyone else thought he would be like any other werewolf, only the Alpha, alongside his Beta and Luna, knew the truth about Inikos' curse. Miriam, a witch who once loved Inikos' grandfather, had cursed his family after he left her for his fated mate. To protect Inikos, the Alpha of the pack keeps him as a slave among the Lycans. However, everything changes when Inikos meets his father and learns about the curse that has plagued his family for generations. As Inikos battles his inner demons and tries to find his place in the world, he must also confront the secrets and lies that have been kept from him for so long. Will he be able to break the curse and find his fated mate, or will he be forever bound to a fate that was never meant for him?

Book Algorithms Routines and S Functions for Robust Statistics

Download or read book Algorithms Routines and S Functions for Robust Statistics written by Alfio Marazzi and published by PWS Publishing Company. This book was released on 1993 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ROBETH is a systematized collection of algorithms that allows the computation of a broad class of procedures bases on M-estimation and hight breakdown point estimation, including robust regression, robust testing of linear hypotheses, and robust covariances. Most of these methods originated at the ETH Zürich (hence the acrony ROBETH). This book describes the computational procedures included in ROBETH. Each chapter, with a few exceptions, consists of three parts: Part 1 is an overview of the theoretical background for the statistical and numerical methods; part 2 is a detailed description of the corresponding FORTRAN subroutines and of the numerical algorithms as they are implemented; part 3 presents the script of several examples concerning the use of ROBETH by means of the S-PLUS interface, including some examples of high level S functions

Book excerpt: In a world where everyone was against them, they needed a Miracle. What no one had expected was to find their salvation in an abandoned town that was ready to collapse. Yet, that is exactly what happened when they moved to the town of Miracle, Oregon. Lucca had always felt trust was something only fools allowed themselves to experience. Since the age of five, he’d learned that not even family could be trusted to keep him safe from the cruel reality of life. That point was driven home when he and his friends were forced to flee their pack for fear of death for no other reason than who they loved. Jari had lived in hell since he was nineteen years old and he’d been naïve enough to believe his Alpha’s claim they were mates. Now he existed in a world of lies and betrayal that had him trapped and miserable. Just when he thought his life couldn’t get worse, he was caught leading his best friend to his death. A part of him had been glad he hadn’t succeeded and was ready to die for his crime, but life was never that easy, for the man who’d captured him was none other than his real mate. Can Lucca find a way to trust his mate or will the sins of their pasts keep them from finding their happily ever after?

Download or read book A History of Sinai written by Lina Eckenstein and published by Library of Alexandria. This book was released on 2015-11-06 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SINAI is the peninsula, triangular in form, which projects into the Red Sea between Egypt and Arabia. The name used to be applied to the mountainous region of the south, now it is made to comprise the land as far north as the Mediterranean. Sinai is famous for the part which it has played in the religious history of mankind. It was at one time a centre of moon-cult, before it became the seat of the promulgation of the Law to the Jews at the time of Moses. In Christian times it was one of the chief homes of the hermits, and the possession of the relics of St. Katherine in the great convent of the south, caused Sinai to be included in the Long Pilgrimage throughout the Middle Ages. A history of Sinai deals with the people who visited the peninsula at different times, rather than with its permanent inhabitants, who, in the course of centuries, seem to have undergone little change. They still live the life of the huntsman and the herdsman as in the days of Ishmael, sleeping in the open, and adding to their meagre resources by carrying dates and charcoal to the nearest centres of intercourse, in return for which they receive corn. The country geographically belongs to Egypt, ethnologically to Arabia. It falls into three regions. In the north, following the coast line of the Mediterranean, lies a zone of drift sand, narrowest near Rafa on the borders of Palestine, widening as it is prolonged in a westerly direction towards Egypt, where it is conterminous with the present Suez Canal. This desert was known in Biblical days as Shur (the wall) of Egypt. ÒAnd Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah (north Arabia), until thou comest to Shur that is over against EgyptÓ (1 Sam. xv. 7). The military highway from Egypt to Syria from ancient times followed the coast line of the Mediterranean, the settlements along which were modified on one side by the encroachment of the sea, on the other by the invasion of sand. Adjoining this zone of drift sand, the land extends south with increased elevation to the centre of the peninsula, where it reaches a height of about 4000 ft., and abruptly breaks off in a series of lofty and inaccessible cliffs, the upper white limestone of which contrasts brilliantly in some places with the lower red sandstone. This region is, for the most part, waterless and bare. It is known in modern parlance as the Badiet T”h (the plain of wandering). Its notable heights include the Gebel el Ejneh and the Gebel Emreikah. This plain is drained in the direction of the Mediterranean by the great Wadi el Arish and its numerous feeders, which, like most rivers of Sinai, are mountain torrents, dry during the greater part of the year, and on occasion like the fiumare of Italy, flowing in a spate. The Wadi el Arish is the River of Egypt of the Bible (Gen. xv. 18; Num. xxxiv. 5), the Nahal Muzur of the annals of King Esarhaddon.

Book excerpt: Visual and performance artist, and winner of the inaugural Kill Your Darlings Manuscript Award, SJ Norman turns their hand to fiction with spectacular results. Permafrost explores the shifting spaces of desire, loss and longing. Inverting and queering the gothic and romantic traditions, each story represents a different take on the concept of a haunting or the haunted. Though it ranges across themes and locations &– from small-town Australia to Hokkaido to rural England &– this collection is united by the power of the narratorial voice, with its auto-fictional resonances, dark wit and swagger. Whether recounting the confusion of a child trying to decipher their father and stepmother's new relationship, the surrealness of an after-hours tour of Auschwitz, or a journey to wintry Japan to reconnect with a former lover, Permafrost unsettles, transports and impresses in equal measure.
