Book Indoctrinability Ideology and Warfare

Download or read book Indoctrinability Ideology and Warfare written by Irenäus Eibl-Eibesfeldt and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 1998 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Violent ethno-nationalist conflicts continue to mar the history of the twentieth century; yet no satisfactory answer as to why humans are susceptible to indoctrination by ideologies leading to inter-group hostility has thus far been found. This volume brings together an international team of leading scientists to address this complex issue from disciplines as diverse as anthropology, psychology, psychobiology, sociology, philosophy, ethology, sociology, and political science. Treating the processes of indoctrination as a biological phenomenon with physiological and psychological aspects, these essays explore the answers to this pressing question in humanity's evolutionary past.

Download or read book Bushmen Soldiers written by Ian Uys and published by Helion and Company. This book was released on 2014-07-19 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bushman soldiers were the most outstanding all-round fighters of the Border War. As the first of the indigenous population to take up arms on South Africa's behalf, they were among the last to lay them down. The border's oldest and most bush-wise people, they became feared as relentless trackers and dedicated soldiers. Coming from a primitive hunter/gatherer culture, they responded well to a crash course in modern warfare. Their use of automatic weapons and mortars, coupled with their phenomenal tracking abilities, made them a formidable fighting force. During Operation Savannah they were deployed in a conventional role as Battle-Group Alpha, part of Task Force Zulu, and advanced approximately 2,000 kilometers in a month. Afterwards, some of the Bushmen were trained as parachutists and served as Recces behind enemy lines. Others were attached to various units as trackers and guides. Their loyalty and bravery was recognized in the award of Honoris Crux decorations to members and former members of this elite corps. Controversy followed the battalion to South Africa after the war. Persecuted for centuries, the Bushmen have displayed an uncanny ability to survive and have adapted remarkably well to the modern world. Their transition from the Stone Age in less than 20 years is a story, which will never be forgotten. Hailed as the 'Gurkhas of Africa' the Bushmen have proved themselves second to none. This is an exceptional record of 31 and 201 Battalions and their remarkable personnel, fully illustrated with many photographs.

Book Operation Linebacker I 1972

  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing

Download or read book Operation Linebacker I 1972 written by Marshall Michel III and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-24 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At Easter 1972, North Vietnam invaded the South, and there were almost no US ground troops left to stop it. But air power reinforcements could be rushed to the theater. Operation Linebacker's objective was to destroy the invading forces from the air and cut North Vietnam's supply routes – and luckily in 1972, American air power was beginning a revolution in both technology and tactics. Most crucial was the introduction of the first effective laser-guided bombs, but the campaign also involved the fearsome AC-130 gunship and saw the debut of helicopter-mounted TOW missiles. Thanks to the new Top Gun fighter school, US naval aviators now also had a real advantage over the MiGs. This is the fascinating story of arguably the world's first “modern” air campaign. It explains how this complex operation – involving tactical aircraft, strategic bombers, close air support and airlift – defeated the invasion. It also explains the shortcomings of the campaign, the contrasting approaches of the USAF and Navy, and the impact that Linebacker had on modern air warfare.

Book Chimpanzees War and History

Download or read book Chimpanzees War and History written by R. Brian Ferguson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-06-20 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of whether men are predisposed to war runs hot in contemporary scholarship and online discussion. Within this debate, chimpanzee behavior is often cited to explain humans' propensity for violence; the claim is that male chimpanzees kill outsiders because they are evolutionarily inclined, suggesting to some that people are too. The longstanding critique that killing is instead due to human disturbance has been pronounced dead and buried. In Chimpanzees, War, and History, R. Brian Ferguson challenges this consensus. By historically contextualizing every reported chimpanzee killing, Ferguson offers and empirically substantiates two hypotheses. Primarily, he provides detailed demonstration of the connection between human impact and intergroup killing of adult chimpanzees. Secondarily, he argues that killings within social groups reflect status conflicts, display violence against defenseless individuals, and payback killings of fallen status bullies. Ferguson also explains broad chimpanzee-bonobo differences in violence through constructed and transmitted social organizations consistent with new perspectives in evolutionary theory. He deconstructs efforts to illuminate human warfare via chimpanzee analogy, and provides an alternative anthropological theory grounded in Pan-human contrasts that is applicable to different types of warfare. Bringing readers on a journey through theoretical struggle and clashing ideas about chimpanzees, bonobos, and evolution, Ferguson opens new ground on the age-old question--are men born to kill?

Book excerpt: The Green Hill pride is a mess. Their alpha and their beta were arrested for attempted kidnapping, and the pride is leaderless and waiting for the council to decide what their fate will be. When the council calls to tell them they’re sending a temporary alpha, Liam is relieved. He doesn’t want the pride—his home since he was born—to disappear. Most pride members aren’t happy about someone who’s not one of them becoming their alpha, but if that’s what it takes to allow the pride to survive, Liam is all for it. The Green Hill pride is just business for Galbraith. He’s worked for the council for a decade, and during that time, he’s been sent all over the country to help shifter groups heal and find their way out of trouble. He doesn’t expect the pride to be any different, and mostly, it’s not. But one thing is. The last thing both Gal and Liam expected was to realize they’re mates. Gal is here to work, not to be distracted by Liam, and they both know their bond could complicate everything and feed the dislike of the people who don’t want Gal there. But if Gal doesn’t manage to heal the pride and help them find a way to survive, it will disappear, and his relationship with Liam right along with it.

Will another female be created to begin the prophecy? There are many versions of this prophecy. Most of the books say this female will bare a son. Saying he will be powerful, even more so than his ancestors. What if she were to have a daughter? One man will vow to steal her, mark her, mate with her and use her to bare his pups when she is eighteen like the prophecy states it should happen. He believes those actions will give him the power he has always wanted. With others helping to try and steal the child, the Alpha and Luna have no choice to hide her. This child will grow up in the human world, not knowing what she is until her shift at sixteen. The child wonders about the dreams she has. Another family? What about the wolves? Who are Callie and Harvey? Who gave her the teddy bear? It was left with her when I was found at the fire station. It had her name on it Celeste Heaven. That's my name. She wonders who named her? A relative? She doesn't know her given last name, but her adopted last name is Keene. Will she ever meet my birth parents? Ask them why they left her the way they did? Did they even love her? She has a feeling that there is more, she is meant for more. She has an eidetic memory and too smart for her own good sometimes. Her adoptive parents call it ambition. There is a big piece of her that is missing, she wonders if she will ever find out? What happens when she finds out what she really is? Will she accept it? Will she be alone when it all happens? And what will happen when the man she falls for as teenager finds out they are destined mates? Will he accept her? All things must align if the power she holds is to be released within her. But, with free will can Celeste and her destined mate be able to fulfill the requirements they will know nothing about?
