Book Hawaiian Spirituality

Download or read book Hawaiian Spirituality written by K. G. Stiles and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aloha and mahalo are among the most sacred and powerful of all the Hawaiian words. Speaking them is said to have the power to transform and heal your life, as well as protect your life's journey. In the traditional Hawaiian culture words or sounds have manna. Scholars suggest that the word manna comes from the Egyptian term mennu, meaning “food.” In Christian context manna refers to spiritual nourishment. When I lived on the island of Maui I was fortunate to be one of the few haole (pronounced how-lee and literally means "without breath") accepted to study the ancient art of hula with Hokulani Padilla, an esteemed kuma hula (hula master), and a wise woman well versed in Hawaiian culture and lore. The word haole means foreigner, or someone who is not native to Hawaii, especially a white person. Many wondrous spiritual events happened when I lived on the mother land of Maui. I was fortunate to directly experience some of the richness of the Hawaiian culture first hand, including an encounter with the Goddess Pelé on the morning of my 29th birthday in Haleakalā crater. Pelé, the fire goddess, is the goddess of volcanoes and creator of the Hawaiian Islands. When I told Hokulani about my vision and experience in Haleakalā crater she told me who I had met and what the event signified. Within a few months time I was pregnant with my son, Ezra. As I feel I’ve received initiation into the deeper spiritual meaning represented by the two words aloha and mahalo I’d like to offer you a glimpse into their deeper meaning. I hope what I share resonates with you and you will feel inspired to use these two words in your daily life. Also, for the first time I open up and share a little known story that I’ve never shared publicly about the circumstances surrounding the birth of my son Ezra and how the goddess Pelé figures prominently in the story. A nation cannot stand without a spiritual system as its foundation. Kanaka Maoli have been struggling with and against themselves because of successful foreign occupation, and spiritual cultural intervention. Kanaka Maoli are struggling with their spiritual beliefs because of Tahitian (Na Ali'i) and Missionary intervention that have confused and divided the extended 'Ohana. Separatism, competitive, and materialistic ideals have kept the heart of Hawaii nei and its people captive long enough. We must return to our true self " 'O'u'i'o" personal truths. First, by freeing our spirit through "Living Aloha and Living Love," by reintroducing the eight rights and eight ideals that once was the backbone, the Kua iwi, of our nation. This spiritual revival of "Living Aloha and Living Love" will heal and hopefully unite and free our nation. This concept has the capacity to spiritually re-unite displaced natives living on foreign soil by keeping their sense of 'Ohana and the spirit of Aloha alive. It is paramount to the survival of our culture and nation to know whom we are and where we come from in order to know where we are going. This knowledge will help to rebuild the loss and low self-esteem currently plaguing our children and nation. "Living Aloha and Living Love" is the catalyst, the missing torch that can help to melt the mental chains that hold Kanaka Maoli captive in the throngs of separatism.

Join authors Wayne Kealohi Powell and Patricia Lynn Miller, longtime students and practitioners of Hawaiian bodywork and shamanism, as they show you how to create space for miracles and open up to the healing energy of the divine. Praise: "My first experience of receiving bodywork from Wayne in 2003 was profound, and I have been hooked ever since. I have been involved in body work for many years and have had hundreds of body work sessions internationally. What makes Wayne's sessions so profound is the depth he takes me to and the magic that gets evoked for weeks after my sessions. I literally feel all old baggage fall off, injuries healing fast, and my energy shiny, new, and ready to take on the world from a place of heart and soul. I now make receiving Wayne's healing work part of my lifestyle and a must for my family and the clients I mentor. I urge you to experience, learn, and dive into Wayne's magic and I assure you that you'll be gifting yourself a spa-healing for your body, mind, and soul."—Satyen Raja, founder of Warrior Sage Trainings "...The mature lomilomi practitioner, no matter the franchise, always lives within the current of authority to heal. The core relationship between the soul and the practitioner is the maturing process. When that happens; the healing that follows is immortal. The place we hold for lomilomi is far reaching, so many practitioners have far moved past the certificates on their wall and into their own expression. In that expression is the non-franchised, authentic relationship between soul and person, carrying the healing that is known as lomilomi. And Wayne and Patti's effort in this book speaks to all lineages in a single voice."—Harry Uhane Jim, Kahuna, healer, teacher, and author of Wise Secrets of Aloha "Many are the techniques for revitalizing and relaxing the body temple, but there is only one that delivers the results of Wayne's Lomilomi techniques. Wayne's unique combination of Lomilomi and ancient breath work promotes the integration of healthy new choices while releasing old ones. In short it is a transforming gift to yourself!"—Rev. Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, founder and senior minister of Agape International Spiritual Centre, and author of Life Visioning

Book excerpt: How does a Philadelphia debutant, refined in manners of high society, overcome great personal storms, follow her spiritual path, and find the love of her life (the great, great, great grandson of King Kamehameha III) in Molokai, Hawaii? He knew her spirit even if he could hardly speak her language and had been raised up in a grass shack on the beaches of Oahu, diving off cliff s, living off the ocean, warding off environmental off enders as a political activist protecting the islands and guarding the ways of his people only as a Kahuna can. They wove a rich fabric of diverse colors throughout their marriage by searching out ways to blend their two cultures through their mutual respect and love for one another. They shared and practiced their spiritual knowledge, lived a traditional Hawaiian lifestyle and fought off , like in a Melagro Bean Field War, a Singapore global conglomerate that wanted to develop 200 pristine acres of shoreline that would change the subsistence way of living on this small Hawaiian island. This is their true Hawaiian story.
