Book Groundwater Flow Assessment of the Mississippi River Valley Alluvial Aquifer of Northeastern Arkansas

Download or read book Groundwater Flow Assessment of the Mississippi River Valley Alluvial Aquifer of Northeastern Arkansas written by U.S. Department of the Interior and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-07-23 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mississippi River Valley alluvial aquifer is a water-bearing assemblage of gravels and sands that underlies about 32,000 square miles of Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missis-sippi, Missouri, and Tennessee. Pumping of groundwater from the alluvial aquifer for agriculture started in the early 1900s in the Grand Prairie area for the irrigation of rice and soybeans. From 1965 to 2005, water use in the alluvial aquifer increased 655 percent. In 2005, 6,242 million gallons per day of water were pumped from the aquifer, primarily for irrigation and fish farming. Water-level declines in the alluvial aquifer were documented as early as 1927. Long-term water-level measure-ments in the alluvial aquifer show an average annual decline of 1 foot per year in some areas.

Book Ground water Resources of the Red River Valley Alluvium in Louisiana

Download or read book Ground water Resources of the Red River Valley Alluvium in Louisiana written by Roy Newcome and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alluvial deposits in the Red River Valley constitute a relatively undeveloped but potentially important aquifer in northwestern Louisiana. The alluvium is 75 to 150 feet thick in the thalweg of the entrenched valley. It consists of clay, silt, sand, and gravel; the sand and gravel constitute the lower half of the deposits.

Book Relation of Water Levels in the Red River Alluvial Aquifer to Rainfall and Stages of the Red River Pool 2 Red River Waterway Alexandria Area Louisiana 1971 91

Download or read book Relation of Water Levels in the Red River Alluvial Aquifer to Rainfall and Stages of the Red River Pool 2 Red River Waterway Alexandria Area Louisiana 1971 91 written by Ronald C. Seanor and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Red River alluvial aquifer is a relatively undeveloped source of large amounts of freshwater int he pool 2 area of the Red River waterway navigation project in Louisiana. Infiltration of rainfall provides the primary source of recharge to the alluvial aquifer. In general, ground-water levels are highest during December through May, when most of the rainfall occurs and evapotranspiration is low. Ground-water levels are lowest during September and October, when the least rainfall occurs and evapotranspiration is high. Water levels in the alluvial aquifer typically fluctuate 10 feet or less. However, these fluctuations can be much larger in wells near the river. The Red River is hydraulically connected to the alluvial aquifer, and ground-water levels near the river fluctuate in response to changes in river stage.
