You may purchase a black and white printed book or the same book in full colour this is the black and white print. copy . Being passionate about natural healing and the amazing results of skin healing with oils and waxes this book has been a great joy to finally finish. It started as a 30 page book with no pictures for my students back in 1972. It was almost impossible to buy essential oils here in Australian back then. My local chemist would import them for me and was very interested in how I was using them. Before then, my family made lotions and potions form our plants grown on my aunties farm and from my grandfathers garden. My Great Aunty Lotti had fruit trees and we would the rind and blossoms to distil oils.Although David Jones's department store had hosted an Elizabeth Arden salon from 1936 and regularly had visits from overseas experts in the use of cosmetics, Australian women knew little of skin nourishing creams or beauty treatments. They used fullers earth and egg whites as masks and salt and olive oil as an exfoliant. In 1936 Johanna Korna was running a beauty salon in Budapest, said to be one of several owned by the family. Her son George Gabriel (1918-2002), a cosmetic chemist, was already involved in the business. In 1955 they moved to Sydney and opened their 1st beauty school. I was trained by the teacher Madam Petrovic. My aunty owned a Hair and beauty salon in Sydney and we learned from her international visitors. We were called Hairdressers and Beauticians and the name beauty therapy was not named legally until the Australian Government requested a group of us to write the Australian standards in 1993. We were asked in 2007 to write the international standards. Aromatherapy, skin and mind healings plus waxing were my main topics. I can assure you there is a right and a wrong way to wear perfume and to mix and use essential oils. As a teenager I broke some rules and made mistakes and my skin paid the price. But now an old granny I have lovely skin I always feel happy (well almost always LOL.) While I am still here on earth, I offer free email support with my books. Because I care. I am not a professional author but I am a professional Hairdresser, Trichologist, Beauty Therapist, Aromatherapist and I constantly search for new scientific findings. Come join my journey and allow me to hold your hand while you make some quintessential products. Be allured you will be so glad you did. facebook.com/groups/FolkloreHealings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE SENSE OF SMELL The nose is normally mistakenly assumed to be the organ of smell reception. It is not. The primary function of the nose is to regulate the temperature and humidity of inspired air, thereby protecting the delicate linings of the lungs. This is achieved by the breathed air passing through narrow passageways formed by three nasal turbinates in each nostril. The turbinates are covered by spongy vascular cells which can expand or contract to open or close the nasal pathways. The olfactory receptors, innervated by the 1st cranial nerve, are located at the top of the nose. There are about 50 million smell receptors in the human olfactory epithelia, the total size of which, in humans, is about that of a small postage stamp, with half being at the top of the left and half at the top of the right nostril. The receptive surfaces of olfactory cells are ciliated and extend into a covering layer of mucus. There is a constant turnover of olfactory cells. Their average active life has been estimated to be about 28 days.

Book excerpt: 'I've long wished perfumery to be taken seriously as an art, and for scent critics to be as fierce as opera critics, and for the wearers of certain "fragrances" to be hissed in public, while others are cheered. This year has brought Perfumes: The Guide by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez, which I breathed in, rather than read, in one delighted gulp.' Hilary Mantel, Guardian Perfumes: The Guide is the culmination of Turin's lifelong obsession and rare scientific flair and Sanchez's stylish and devoted blogging about every scent that she's ever loved and loathed. Together they make a fine and utterly persuasive argument for the unrecognised craft of perfume-making. Perfume writing has certainly never been this honest, compelling or downright entertaining.

Book The Psychological Basis of Perfumery

Download or read book The Psychological Basis of Perfumery written by J. Stephan Jellinek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the many years of its publication and subsequent revisions, Paul Jellinek's book has been the standard work on its subject. This new edition, translated into English for the first time, was conceived in response to the increased interest in recent years in perfumes and the sense of smell. This interest has come not only from within the highly competitive perfumery industry, but also from psychologists and market researchers. The original text has impressively withstood the test of time and the approach of this new book has been to supplement it with chapters that are now of critical importance, but which were only touched upon in the original book. A market researcher looks at why people use perfumes; a psychologist examines the motivation of perfume choice; another psychologist discusses odours and a perfumer looks at the effects of odours on human experience and behaviour. In the final chapter the editor compares the original author's views with those of today's experts and suggests which aspects are still valid and in what areas divergent views now prevail. This book is written principally to provide a scientific basis to the craft of perfumery and to enable formulators and marketeers to understand why the smells they create and sell have the effect they do. It allows a systematic approach to the development of these products. Others outside the industry, including psychologists in academia, will find the book an essential reference source.
