Download or read book Alle Scholen written by Herman Hertzberger and published by 010 Publishers. This book was released on 2009 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Herman Hertzberger designs schools to function like cities. Schools and cities, he contends, can be read in many ways and are challenging, inspirational and inviting. School is where you can withdraw and adopt a position with respect to others, where you learn to take a place in society. Besides a presentation of Hertzberger's 30-plus built schools and a number of unbuilt ones, the sociologist Abram de Swaan addresses Hertzberger's work in an essay, discussing how school architecture impacts the social development of children. De Swaan pays tribute to Hertzberger as a pre-eminently 'sociological' architect.

Download or read book Catholics in Indonesia 1808 1942 written by Karel Steenbrink and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indigenous Indonesian Catholics increased in number from 27,000 to nearly 550,000 between 1902 and 1942. At first scattered only through Minahasa, the Kai islands and Flores, after four decades Catholic centres were established in most of the archipelago, and there was even a small but well-educated and vocal minority in Central Java. It is this formative period in the growth of Catholicism in Indonesia that Steenbrink describes in detail. Catholics never constituted more than three per cent of the Indonesian population, one-third of all Christians. Steenbrink examines the rivalry of this minority with Protestants and their missionary activities, as well as the race with Islam in many parts of the outer islands, which had come under Dutch rule in the early twentieth century. This comprehensive work includes extensive details on the different European missionary orders and missionaries active at this time. Forty archival documents illustrate the proselytizing efforts in the archipelago. The first volume of Catholics in Indonesia, 1808-1942: A documented history appeared in 2003 (Volume I: A modest recovery, 1808-1903, KITLV Press).

Download or read book De garoeda en de ooievaar written by Herman Burgers and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 847 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Governments Responses to the Covid 19 Pandemic in Europe written by Kennet Lynggaard and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-12-01 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines similarities and differences in 31 European governments’ responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic hit Europe in early 2020. It spread across the continent during the Spring while anxious electorates were treated to news reports about health systems under duress and frustrated attempts by public procurement officials to obtain adequate supplies of medical and protective equipment. Over the next 15–18 months considered by this book, national responses exhibited both similarities and profound variations as the different endeavours to regulate social interactions constituted a stress test for political systems across Europe.
