Download or read book Joint Arthroplasty written by Shinichi Imura and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of total joint arthroplasty throughout the world has contributed manifold benefits to patients who suffer from joint diseases. Concurrently, however, there has been an increase in revision surgery. Many orthopedic surgeons agree that durability of prostheses is an eternal problem. In particular, periprosthetic osteolysis recently has been identified as one of the serious problems affecting prosthetic dura bility. To improve durability, osteolysis and many other problems must be investi gated and solved both experimentally and clinically with respect to such aspects as prosthetic material, design, and biological and biomechanical behavior. This book comprises 37 papers that were presented by orthopedic surgeons and biomedical engineers at the 28th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Replace ment Arthroplasty, held in March 1998 in Kanazawa, Japan. The volume is thus a compilation of the latest knowledge about the pathogenesis and reduction of osteolysis and wear, newly developed total hip prostheses, and other current topics of total knee arthroplasty. We earnestly hope that this book will be of benefit to clinicians and researchers, and that it will contribute to the creation of more durable total joint prostheses in the future. Book Total Knee Replacement and Rehabilitation

Download or read book Total Knee Replacement and Rehabilitation written by Daniel J. Brugioni and published by Hunter House. This book was released on 2004 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year approximately 250,000 Americans undergo total-knee-replacement surgery (also known as a total knee arthroplasty, or TKA). Every year, a million more consider it. If you are considering or have had a total knee replacement you should read this book. It will tell you everything you need to know to prepare for and recover from the surgery, and to get the most out of your new knee. The success of a total knee replacement depends on rehabilitating the knee after the operation -- in fact, the rehab is as important as the surgery itself. This book maps out the road to recovery with week-by-week exercises for a full year. The authors, a surgeon and physical therapist who have both been orthopedic patients, provide practical tips, success stories and personal insights into the recovery process. Most people, even surgeons, don't realize how dramatically arthritis can change a person's life. Author Jeff Falkel, Ph.D., was one of these people. Over the course of 20 years his knees had gotten progressively worse, and eventually the pain reached the point where it was present in every aspect of his life. He could not stand or walk without crippling pain.

Book Reconstruction of the Knee Joint

Download or read book Reconstruction of the Knee Joint written by S. Niwa and published by Springer. This book was released on 1997-04 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than 20 years have passed since the International Symposium on Total Knee Replacement was held in London in 1974. Prosthetic design and operative technique have been greatly improved since then, and there is now an accepted standard concept of total knee arthroplasty. Thirteen years after the London symposium, another international symposium on total knee replacement was held, this time in Nagoya, Japan, in 1987. Its ambitious objective was to push forward the frontiers of continuous investigation and improve ment of total knee replacement. The fruits of the individual efforts presented at the Nagoya symposium were published in a volume of proceedings entitled Total Knee Replacement. In the years since 1987, further investigations have been conducted in various parts of the world regarding prosthetic design, fixation, long-term radiological follow-up, biomechanical evaluation, and biomaterials research. In knee ligament reconstruc tion, rapid progress has been made in the past five years in clinical practice and fundamental research by means of arthroscopic surgery and tissue transplantation, and we have come close to establishing a standard treatment. Under these circumstances, an international symposium on knee joint reconstruc tion was planned for 1994, again to be held in Nagoya, to provide ample opportunity for exchanging information and sharing clinical experience from around the world.

Book My Bilateral Knee Replacement

Download or read book My Bilateral Knee Replacement written by Ann G. Nohava and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-07 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is my personal story of my bilateral total knee replacement. I wrote this book for two reasons. The first reason is to inform people about what they can expect from bilateral knee replacement surgery as opposed to surgery on one knee at a time. But more importantly, the second reason for this book is to provide as much information as possible to anyone contemplating this type of surgery before they go forward with it. The anxieties you have before major surgery are so different than the ones you have after surgery. Often, people think that once the surgery is over, the worries and pain are over. Instead, it can be the beginning of a different set of worries and pain. But, if you know in advance what to expect, you can plan accordingly and will have a much easier time after your operation. There are many books out there with regard to one total knee replacement, but very little about a bilateral-meaning two-knee replacement. I want to tell you all the facts that could occur, and in my case, did occur, before a very large decision such as this one is made.
