Book Tears We Cannot Stop

Download or read book Tears We Cannot Stop written by Michael Eric Dyson and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2017-01-17 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOW A NEW YORK TIMES, PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY, INDIEBOUND, LOS ANGELES TIMES, WASHINGTON POST, CHRONICLE HERALD, SALISBURY POST, GUELPH MERCURY TRIBUNE, AND BOSTON GLOBE BESTSELLER | NAMED A BEST/MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK OF 2017 BY: The Washington Post • Bustle • Men's Journal • The Chicago Reader • StarTribune • Blavity• The Guardian • NBC New York's Bill's Books • Kirkus • Essence “One of the most frank and searing discussions on race ... a deeply serious, urgent book, which should take its place in the tradition of Baldwin's The Fire Next Time and King's Why We Can't Wait." —The New York Times Book Review Toni Morrison hails Tears We Cannot Stop as "Elegantly written and powerful in several areas: moving personal recollections; profound cultural analysis; and guidance for moral redemption. A work to relish." Stephen King says: "Here’s a sermon that’s as fierce as it is lucid...If you’re black, you’ll feel a spark of recognition in every paragraph. If you’re white, Dyson tells you what you need to know—what this white man needed to know, at least. This is a major achievement. I read it and said amen." Short, emotional, literary, powerful—Tears We Cannot Stop is the book that all Americans who care about the current and long-burning crisis in race relations will want to read. As the country grapples with racist division at a level not seen since the 1960s, one man's voice soars above the rest with conviction and compassion. In his 2016 New York Times op-ed piece "Death in Black and White," Michael Eric Dyson moved a nation. Now he continues to speak out in Tears We Cannot Stop—a provocative and deeply personal call for change. Dyson argues that if we are to make real racial progress we must face difficult truths, including being honest about how black grievance has been ignored, dismissed, or discounted. "The time is at hand for reckoning with the past, recognizing the truth of the present, and moving together to redeem the nation for our future. If we don't act now, if you don't address race immediately, there very well may be no future."

Book All Those Tears We Can t See

Download or read book All Those Tears We Can t See written by Gita Audhya and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2020-03-15 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We can see clearly the differences between beliefs and way of life in each country and can begin to understand the challenges immigrants face in this era. It was difficult and traumatic for Samantha (The immigrant in my book) to leave everything behind and start a new life where the language, culture, traditions, morals, beliefs and everyday way of life are totally foreign and then assimilate into a new country while still retaining her own culture and beliefs. The story follows Samantha (or Shimonti as she was known as a child) as she races to her native India, now modern, in search of her daughter, Monica. Their fragile relationship of late has finally been shattered over interracial marriage, because Samantha fears that it will end her Bengali culture. Samantha revisits her past and re-examines her life growing up in India and then immigrating to the United States where Life was extremely hard at first, but was later fulfilled by achieving the American dream. Her daughter Monica, now a journalist, was all-American in heart, but she was partially wrong. Monica was fascinated by Indian people and their spirituality. Later she faced physical assault in India and Samantha seeks justice for her daughter. The silver lining in this book is when Samantha thought she should embrace and accept Brandon as her son-in-law, who was Christian, realizing her daughter’s happiness should come first, before her own happiness, but would she? The messages brought forth about the beauty of love and the evil of rape came across through the pages in my book.

Book For Those Tears He Died

Download or read book For Those Tears He Died written by Dolores Reding and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-11-22 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about my view of the tears shed by God and mankind in the process of deciding if we want to accept the free gift of eternal life God gave us through his son, or go our own way and spend eternity with Satan. God has put a burden on my heart for people who do not want to give their lives to Jesus and that do not want to let the Holy Spirit guide them through their life here on earth. I spent about half of my life without Jesus and over half with him and I am here to tell you it is much better with Jesus than without him. This book is my idea of how many tears God cried while hoping the human race would decide to be obedient. But after thousands of years of hoping, he realized the human race just can't seem to get it together so he went ahead with his plan to save the human race. Jesus Christ was born for the sole purpose of dying a horrible, horrible death to pay for all the things we do that do not please God. I hope this book will help people to see that without God we are nothing. We are in the end times and we need to decide, do we want to give our life to God or do we want to give our life to Satan? I hope and pray we all make the right decision.

Jeff lived his life to the fullest, continuing with his high school football team as manager when he could no longer play. Jeff never gave up and never complained! He faced his battle with cancer with so much strength and faith. He was a very special young man and an inspiration to all who knew him. Jeff's favorite Bible verse: "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Śāṇḍilya-bhakti-sūtra, compiled by Sage Śāṇḍilya, is an essential text in the bhakti tradition and Vaiṣṇavism at large. Its ontological exploration of bhakti helps the seeker map out the process by which bhakti emerges, grows and, ultimately, leads one to the absolute peak of spiritual experience. Given Sage Śāṇḍilya’s more pragmatic, philosophical leanings, Paramahamsa Vishwananda’s commentaries serve as a perfect balancing act. Focusing on the experiential and emotional dimensions of the sūtras, what we are left with is an impeccable combination of intellectual and experiential nourishment. The transcendent world of the Lord, of true love, and bliss is impossible for the mind to fully grasp, but this book aims to serve as a compass pointing in its direction. The journey will always be unique and ours to undertake, but the guidance and framework gifted to us by the joint efforts of Sage Śāṇḍilya and Paramahamsa Vishwananda will surely help make it as smooth a ride as it could ever possibly be.
