Author Megan Grandinetti teamed up with some of the top Min Pin Breeders in the country to write a guide to the Min Pin that will help any new owner successfully raise their Min Pin from puppy to old-age! Get the answers to your most pressing questions, including: Is a Miniature Pinscher the right breed for me? How do I prepare my home for an active Miniature Pinscher pup? Which training methods are most effective for Min-Pins? How do I avoid or extinguish common problem behaviors? The Complete Guide to Miniature Pinschers is a comprehensive guidebook to all things Miniature Pinscher. Although this book contains detailed instructions for training your new canine companion, it is so much more than a simple training manual. These pages are packed with knowledge concerning the history, temperament, and behavioral traits of Miniature Pinschers as well as their physical health and well-being. Learn all about this courageous canine, including such wide-ranging subjects as: The history of the Miniature Pinscher What to expect from a Min-Pin breeder or rescue Selecting the right canine companion for your home Making your home safe for an energetic puppy—inside and out What to expect from the first few weeks House-training your Miniature Pinscher The importance of socialization for small dogs Keeping your curious Min-Pin active, entertained, and out of trouble Selecting the best veterinarian for your Min-Pin Health and wellness information specific to the Miniature Pinscher How to groom your Miniature Pinscher Caring for the senior Min-Pin While some might have the misconception that these small canines are a shrunk-down version of the Doberman Pinscher, the Miniature Pinscher breed actually has a longer history than that of the Doberman. Often referred to as “the King of the Toys” by those in the know, these diminutive but dynamic dogs were originally employed on German farms as pest control. While they are small in size, Miniature Pinschers are not lapdogs but athletic, driven canines who respond best to a firm but loving approach. Miniature Pinschers are delightfully entertaining companions, but the novice owner may need some extra guidance when raising this bold breed. They require regular training sessions and daily exercise or they can quickly become unruly, demanding, and manipulative. Learn everything that you need to know to raise your dog from a lively Pinscher pup to a curious and confident adult with a dignified air. These little dogs make animated and entertaining companions that will keep you on the move. Miniature Pinscher parents will find themselves reaching for this handy manual over and over again. The valuable information contained in this guide is designed to help you navigate pet ownership, from selecting the right canine companion for your home to caring for your dog throughout his senior years. This thorough volume is a must-have manual for anyone who adores the Miniature Pinscher breed.

Download or read book Miniature Pinschers written by Augusten S. and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK Miniature Pinschers are a unique, sassy breed with broad appeal. The Miniature Pinscher has been bred over time to handle the specific demands and requirements of farmers, so these dogs have a high-energy personality that does not waver much between individuals. How did Miniature Pinschers make it into the hearts and homes of millions? We can only answer this question by looking back at their history. The Miniature Pinscher originates in Germany, and is surprisingly unrelated to Doberman Pinschers. This breed’s closest ancestors are the Italian Greyhound and the Dachshund, both of whom also have sleek, sporty frames. Miniature Pinschers were originally bred to be a hunting breed; they were not house pets, but working dogs often left to their own devices. Their characteristic cropped ears and tail, as outlined in the American Kennel Club's (AKC) guidelines, trace back to the breed's history as a hunter, as ears and tails were often cropped short to minimize the risk of damage and infection from rodent bites or errant horse hooves. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Treat your dog with a flea and tick preventative in the spring and summertime. Fleas, ticks, and other insects carry parasites and other illnesses, making them a risk as well as a nuisance. If your dog spends any time outdoors, he should have a flea and tick preventative to ward off any intruders. This keeps your home and indoor pets safe from pests as well. Your veterinarian will likely have recommendations for safe preventatives, so be sure to ask during your annual visit if you are at all uncertain. Miniature Pinschers are fairly healthy dogs, but they are prone to a few breed-specific conditions. First and foremost, Miniature Pinschers’ skinny legs are prone to injuries. If you have children, special care must be taken to ensure all play is safe. On a similar note, Miniature Pinschers are prone to kneecap displacement. Aging Miniature Pinschers are prone to hip joint degeneration, so regular veterinary examinations and possible supplementation are an excellent idea when your Miniature Pinscher reaches advanced age. Glucosamine supplementation and anti-inflammatory drugs are excellent options for arthritic pets. However, the best medicine is prevention, so do your best to provide your young Miniature Pinscher plenty of exercise to encourage the development of strong joints and bones... Walking down the dog food aisle in a pet supply superstore can present you with an overwhelming number of choices. Reading about dog food on the internet can make your head spin with so many opinions and stories. And judging the content that you find on dog food packaging can be confusing and misleading. How can the average dog owner make an informed choice in accordance with her dog’s age, size and condition? In her latest book, author Linda Case describes how to make logical, evidence-based decisions for what to feed your dog amid all the options available.

You will learn
• How pet food marketers appeal to your emotions to persuade you to buy a particular type of dog food.
• To distinguish between scientific, evidence-based information and the anecdotal evidence which is so pervasive—and often misleading—in the dog food arena.
• Is there a scientific basis for dog foods designed specifically for puppies, senior dogs, canine athletes—even various breeds of dogs?
• How to read and evaluate all of the material included on a typical package of dog food from the ingredients and label claims (“Natural,” “Anti-Oxidant,” “Low Fat”),to the Nutrient Analysis and Nutritional Adequacy statements.
• How to avoid choice paralysis and the cognitive traps that can interfere with clear decision making.

What experts are saying about Dog Food Logic
Pet food is like a religion for many—but now those strong emotional ties can be backed up with fact. Linda Case separates fact from fiction, explains the complex terms and offers a guide to pet nutrition in simple to comprehend language. Unlike other books on this topic, there is no agenda here—except to present facts and then allow pet owners to make their own logical conclusions, letting the kibble drop where it may.
