Book Cribbage Discards

Download or read book Cribbage Discards written by Anthony Myers and published by Blurb. This book was released on 2020-04-26 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is to cribbage players what scrabble and crossword dictionaries are to word puzzlers - essential." Winning at the game of cribbage - is it skill, or is it luck? In cribbage, the statistical advantage goes to the player who understands and applies sound strategy, and the first opportunity to apply strategy - before any cards are played out - is at the discard. With over 400 pages and over 275,000 discard options analyzed, this book offers a complete list of every possible cribbage hand - 18,395 hands in total - and the mathematically best discard option for each, for both dealer and non-dealer. Spanning the entire range of hands from A-A-A-A-2-2 to Q-Q-K-K-K-K, this book presents every hand in order for ease of look-up. Simply put your six cards in order of card value, from smallest to largest, and flip to the page of the book that shows your hand. Next to each hand, the recommended best discard option for dealer and non-dealer ("pone" in cribbage lingo) is shown. Holding 5-5-6-6-9-9 and unsure which cards to toss to your opponent's crib? Look up this hand (pg. 314, hand #15,651) or any other six-card combination, and quickly discover which two cards represent the best discard. Keep this easy-to-use book next to the crib board to help remove the guesswork and make those tricky in-game choices easier, use the book as a learning tool, or as a fun guide to see how your discarding instincts align with the math. (You may be surprised!)

Download or read book Handbook of Cribbage written by William Brisbane Dick and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of the origin of Cribbage we are not aware that anything is known further than that it is essentially an English game. The game of Cribbage is entirely distinct and different from all other card-games. The method of playing it, and the constant variety of combinations which present themselves, render it one of the most interesting and fascinating games. To those who have become familiar with, and have mastered the characteristic peculiarities of the game, it offers an attractive pastime, requiring only an occasional moment of transient mental effort, and leaving the players ample opportunity for social intercourse. The game is played with a full pack of fifty-two cards: Sixty-one points constitutes the game. These points are scored on a Cribbage Board, of which a representation is here given. It consists of two longitudinal divisions, one division for each player's independent score. Each division contains sixty holes; and at one end, between the divisions, is another hole, called the " game-hole," which is common to both, making each sixty-one points. For convenience in scoring, each division is marked off in subdivisions of five points each. The board is placed either across or lengthways between the players. It is a matter of indifference how the board is placed; but the count must commence from that end which contains the sixty-first, or game-hole; beginning at the outside edge (A or B), and passing along it to the top, then down the inside row to game. (See Diagram on page 2) Four pegs (of which each player uses two), are used for scoring. Scoring is done by advancing the lower peg and counting the points ahead of the front peg. Like a horse race, this movement of pegs will lead the winning player to the sixty-first, or game-hole.

Book John Wayne and Ideology

Download or read book John Wayne and Ideology written by Larry A. Van Meter and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-21 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Wayne and Ideology is an examination of John Waynes legacy as a political force. It is no exaggeration to say that, playing the lead in over 150 movies, he is one of the most popular actors in the history of cinema. This book argues that his enduring popularity is historically mediated. Certainly an A-list actor before and during World War II, John Wayne nevertheless did not become an icon until after the war, when, because of the war and emerging calls for womens and minorities rights, white masculinity anxieties spiked. The American political reaction to this new world was a radical shift to the right, with John Wayne and Ronald Reagan embodying that change. The racist, misogynous, and homophobic films of John Wayne, still hugely popular, bear witness to that right turn. Moreover, that legacy continues, with generations of Johns Waynesuch as, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and post-9/11 superheroesdesperately trying to recenter white American masculinity.
