The apparatus comprises a source of gas under pressure and a mechanically actuated distributor which controls at suitable intervals the supply of gas under pres sure to the chest's band and its discharge there from, in such a manner that the periodical com pressions and decompressions of the band give rise to corresponding movements of the patient's chest. We may for instance add gas mixtures rich in hydrogen and poor in nitrogen such as coke oven gas or the gaseous products rich in hydrogen which are obtained in the thermical conversion of hydro carbons, after the valuable hydrocarbons such as acetylene have been extracted. We may also add the gas containing hydrogen which remains after separation of the ethylene and ethane and their homologues, when reacting the waste gases from the synthetical production of benzine from CO and Hz at ordinary pressure. As a carrier gas for the carrying away of the benzine vapors resulting in the reaction, we may for instance use nitrogen gas. In practising our invention we may for instance proceed as follows. The middle posts 4 consist of section bars coated with artificial resin, the upper ends of which are firmly connected to the roof edges by any suitable means not shown in the drawing. The rear side portions 3 of the automobile body are connected to the middle posts 4, to the edges of the roof 2 and to the rear portion 5. Thus an opening a is formed on each side of the body between the parts 2, 3 and 4, into which the side window frame 9 is inserted. The free edges of the roof 2 may be provided with section bars serving the double purpose of increasing the rigidity of the roof and of strengthening its edges. These section bars ex tend longitudinally along the edges of the roof 2 and constitute a self-supporting frame. Figure 2 shows a hollow section bar IO which may consist of a hard aluminum alloy and which is pressed into an edge of the roof. If, however, the retaining of the multiplicand of the multiplicator in the column totalizers is not required, the latter are replaced by zero totalizers on the totalizer suspension rail 6. Then the preparatory key 14 is depressed, whereby the key lever 60 and the slide 61, Fig. 9, are moved anti-clockwise around the shaft 28. Consequently the control clutch 62, 63, 64 is connected in known manner for a complete turn with the driving shaft 33 which is moved in the direction of arrow 32. During the first half-turn of the control clutch 62, 63, 64 the rising curved part of the cam 63 engages the roller 14 of the lever 15 and moves it around the pinion 11 in the reverse direction of arrow 19 and against the action of the spring 18. In this way the draw hook 81 is moved in the direction of arrow 110, Figs. 7 to 9, whereby the angle lever 83 tends to move anticlockwise around the pivot 84 from the position illustrated in Fig. 7 into the posi tion illustrated in Fig. 8. Simultaneously the angle lever 83 pulls the draw-bar 86 in the direc tion of arrow 103. The draw-bar 86, Figs. 5 to 8 and 10, therefore tends to move the slide 89 and through same also the slide 100 in the same direction towards the right. During this sliding movement of the slide 100 the incline of the lug 113 cooperates with the incline 114 of the pawl 115 and through the driving connection 119, 111 moves the lever 111 clockwise around the pivot screw 120. Simultaneously the lever 111 moves the member 123 downwards and the latter owing to the screw connection 124, moves the lever 125 clockwise around the shaft 28a against the spring 126. Its lower edge 143 also engages the pin 144 of the member 145, Figs. 10 and 12, whereby the member 145 is moved down wards and consequently the lever 141 is moved clockwise around the pivot screw 149, Fig. 12, against the spring 154. It is known to produce small holes in glass by fusing platinum wires individually into glass plates, and etching the wires away again after the completion of the other operations required, such as grinding and polishing. In this way an accurate hole is obtained. This process is com plicated, and furthermore platinum has been found to be the only metal that, can be used therein.
