This book was released on 2002 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mastronardi, Lemmerling, and van Huffel presented an algorithm for solving a total least squares problem when the matrix and its perturbations are Toeplitz. A Toeplitz matrix is a special kind of matrix with small displacement rank. Here we generalize the fast algorithm to any matrix with small displacement rank. In particular, we show how to efficiently construct the generators whenever M has small displacement rank and show that in many important cases the Cholesky factorization of the matrix MT̂M can also be determined fast. We further extend this problem to Tikhonov regularization of ill-posed problems and illustrate the use of the algorithm on an image deblurring problem.

Book The Total Least Squares Problem

Download or read book The Total Least Squares Problem written by Sabine Van Huffel and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book devoted entirely to total least squares. The authors give a unified presentation of the TLS problem. A description of its basic principles are given, the various algebraic, statistical and sensitivity properties of the problem are discussed, and generalizations are presented. Applications are surveyed to facilitate uses in an even wider range of applications. Whenever possible, comparison is made with the well-known least squares methods. A basic knowledge of numerical linear algebra, matrix computations, and some notion of elementary statistics is required of the reader; however, some background material is included to make the book reasonably self-contained.

Book Algorithms for Toeplitz Matrices with Applications to Image Deblurring

Download or read book Algorithms for Toeplitz Matrices with Applications to Image Deblurring written by Symon Kimitei and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, we present the O(n log DEGREES2 n) superfast linear least squares Schur algorithm(ssschur). The algorithm we describe illustrates a fast way of solving linear equations or linear least squares problems with low displacement rank. This algorithm is based on the O(n DEGREES2) Schur algorithm, sped up via FFT. The algorithm solves an ill-conditioned Toeplitz-like system using Tikhonov regularization. The regularized system solved is Toeplitz-like and is of displacement rank, 4. In this thesis, we also show the effect of the choice of the regularization parameter on the quality of the images

Download or read book Algorithms for Toeplitz Matrices with Applications to Image Deblurring written by Symon Kipyagwai Kimitei and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, we present the O(n(log n)^2) superfast linear least squares Schur algorithm (ssschur). The algorithm we will describe illustrates a fast way of solving linear equations or linear least squares problems with low displacement rank. This program is based on the O(n^2) Schur algorithm speeded up via FFT. The algorithm solves a ill-conditioned Toeplitz-like system using Tikhonov regularization. The regularized system is Toeplitz-like of displacement rank 4. We also show the effect of choice of the regularization parameter on the quality of the image reconstructed.

Book Deblurring Images

Download or read book Deblurring Images written by Per Christian Hansen and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The book's focus on imaging problems is very unique among the competing books on inverse and ill-posed problems. …It gives a nice introduction into the MATLAB world of images and deblurring problems.” — Martin Hanke, Professor, Institut für Mathematik, Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität.When we use a camera, we want the recorded image to be a faithful representation of the scene that we see, but every image is more or less blurry. In image deblurring, the goal is to recover the original, sharp image by using a mathematical model of the blurring process. The key issue is that some information on the lost details is indeed present in the blurred image, but this “hidden” information can be recovered only if we know the details of the blurring process. Deblurring Images: Matrices, Spectra, and Filtering describes the deblurring algorithms and techniques collectively known as spectral filtering methods, in which the singular value decomposition—or a similar decomposition with spectral properties—is used to introduce the necessary regularization or filtering in the reconstructed image. The concise MATLAB® implementations described in the book provide a template of techniques that can be used to restore blurred images from many applications. This book's treatment of image deblurring is unique in two ways: it includes algorithmic and implementation details; and by keeping the formulations in terms of matrices, vectors, and matrix computations, it makes the material accessible to a wide range of readers. Students and researchers in engineering will gain an understanding of the linear algebra behind filtering methods, while readers in applied mathematics, numerical analysis, and computational science will be exposed to modern techniques to solve realistic large-scale problems in image processing. With a focus on practical and efficient algorithms, Deblurring Images: Matrices, Spectra, and Filtering includes many examples, sample image data, and MATLAB codes that allow readers to experiment with the algorithms. It also incorporates introductory material, such as how to manipulate images within the MATLAB environment, making it a stand-alone text. Pointers to the literature are given for techniques not covered in the book.Audience This book is intended for beginners in the field of image restoration and regularization. Readers should be familiar with basic concepts of linear algebra and matrix computations, including the singular value decomposition and orthogonal transformations. A background in signal processing and a familiarity with regularization methods or with ill-posed problems are not needed. For readers who already have this knowledge, this book gives a new and practical perspective on the use of regularization methods to solve real problems.Preface; How to Get the Software; List of Symbols; Chapter 1: The Image Deblurring Problem; Chapter 2: Manipulating Images in MATLAB; Chapter 3: The Blurring Function; Chapter 4: Structured Matrix Computations; Chapter 5: SVD and Spectral Analysis; Chapter 6: Regularization by Spectral Filtering; Chapter 7: Color Images, Smoothing Norms, and Other Topics; Appendix: MATLAB Functions; Bibliography; Index

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image Restoration: Fundamentals and Advances responds to the need to update most existing references on the subject, many of which were published decades ago. Providing a broad overview of image restoration, this book explores breakthroughs in related algorithm development and their role in supporting real-world applications associated with various scientific and engineering fields. These include astronomical imaging, photo editing, and medical imaging, to name just a few. The book examines how such advances can also lead to novel insights into the fundamental properties of image sources. Addressing the many advances in imaging, computing, and communications technologies, this reference strikes just the right balance of coverage between core fundamental principles and the latest developments in this area. Its content was designed based on the idea that the reproducibility of published works on algorithms makes it easier for researchers to build on each other’s work, which often benefits the vitality of the technical community as a whole. For that reason, this book is as experimentally reproducible as possible. Topics covered include: Image denoising and deblurring Different image restoration methods and recent advances such as nonlocality and sparsity Blind restoration under space-varying blur Super-resolution restoration Learning-based methods Multi-spectral and color image restoration New possibilities using hybrid imaging systems Many existing references are scattered throughout the literature, and there is a significant gap between the cutting edge in image restoration and what we can learn from standard image processing textbooks. To fill that need but avoid a rehash of the many fine existing books on this subject, this reference focuses on algorithms rather than theories or applications. Giving readers access to a large amount of downloadable source code, the book illustrates fundamental techniques, key ideas developed over the years, and the state of the art in image restoration. It is a valuable resource for readers at all levels of understanding.
