Book Geometric Modeling Theory and Practice

Download or read book Geometric Modeling Theory and Practice written by Wolfgang Straßer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Blaubeuren Conference "Theory and Practice of Geometric Modeling" has become a meeting place for leading experts from industrial and academic research institutions, CAD system developers and experienced users to exchange new ideas and to discuss new concepts and future directions in geometric modeling. The relaxed and calm atmosphere of the Heinrich-Fabri-Institute in Blaubeuren provides the appropriate environment for profound and engaged discussions that are not equally possible on other occasions. Real problems from current industrial projects as well as theoretical issues are addressed on a high scientific level. This book is the result of the lectures and discussions during the conference which took place from October 14th to 18th, 1996. The contents is structured in 4 parts: Mathematical Tools Representations Systems Automated Assembly. The editors express their sincere appreciation to the contributing authors, and to the members of the program committee for their cooperation, the careful reviewing and their active participation that made the conference and this book a success.

Book Computational Methods for Algebraic Spline Surfaces

Download or read book Computational Methods for Algebraic Spline Surfaces written by Tor Dokken and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-24 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains revised papers that were presented at the international workshop entitled Computational Methods for Algebraic Spline Surfaces (“COMPASS”), which was held from September 29 to October 3, 2003, at Schloß Weinberg, Kefermarkt (A- tria). The workshop was mainly devoted to approximate algebraic geometry and its - plications. The organizers wanted to emphasize the novel idea of approximate implici- zation, that has strengthened the existing link between CAD / CAGD (Computer Aided Geometric Design) and classical algebraic geometry. The existing methods for exact implicitization (i. e. , for conversion from the parametric to an implicit representation of a curve or surface) require exact arithmetic and are too slow and too expensive for industrial use. Thus the duality of an implicit representation and a parametric repres- tation is only used for low degree algebraic surfaces such as planes, spheres, cylinders, cones and toroidal surfaces. On the other hand, this duality is a very useful tool for - veloping ef?cient algorithms. Approximate implicitization makes this duality available for general curves and surfaces. The traditional exact implicitization of parametric surfaces produce global rep- sentations, which are exact everywhere. The surface patches used in CAD, however, are always de?ned within a small box only; they are obtained for a bounded parameter domain (typically a rectangle, or – in the case of “trimmed” surface patches – a subset of a rectangle). Consequently, a globally exact representation is not really needed in practice.

Book Robust and Efficient Surface Intersection for Solid Modeling

Download or read book Robust and Efficient Surface Intersection for Solid Modeling written by Michael E. Hohmeyer and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The algorithm is based on a new loop detection criterion. Loop detection criterion-based intersection algorithms recursively subdivide two surfaces until no surface patches intersect in a closed loop. The intersection curves of the original patches can be reliably identified by finding the edge-surface intersections of the resulting sub-patches.

Book Shape Interrogation for Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing

Download or read book Shape Interrogation for Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing written by Nicholas M. Patrikalakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-11-27 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shape interrogation is the process of extraction of information from a geometric model. It is a fundamental component of Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems. This book provides a bridge between the areas geometric modeling and solid modeling. Apart from the differential geometry topics covered, the entire book is based on the unifying concept of recasting all shape interrogation problems to the solution of a nonlinear system. It provides the mathematical fundamentals as well as algorithms for various shape interrogation methods including nonlinear polynomial solvers, intersection problems, differential geometry of intersection curves, distance functions, curve and surface interrogation, umbilics and lines of curvature, and geodesics.

Download or read book Curves and Surfaces written by Pierre-Jean Laurent and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curves and Surfaces provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of approximation theory with emphasis on approximation of images, surface compression, wavelets, and tomography. This book covers a variety of topics, including error estimates for multiquadratic interpolation, spline manifolds, and vector spline approximation. Organized into 77 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the method, based on a local Taylor expansion of the final curve, for computing the parameter values. This text then presents a vector approximation based on general spline function theory. Other chapters consider a nonparametric technique for estimating under random censorship the amplitude of a change point in change point hazard models. This book discusses as well the algorithm for ray tracing rational parametric surfaces based on inversion and implicitization. The final chapter deals with the results concerning the norm of the interpolation operator and error estimates for a square domain. This book is a valuable resource for mathematicians.
