Important topics were "soft" computing methods, software tools and architectures, embedded systems, parallel and distributed systems, architectures, custom processors, algorithms, estimation methods, neural networks, fuzzy methods, PID controllers, transport applications, industrial process control, robotics, and discrete-event and hybrid systems.

Book Genetic Algorithms for Control and Signal Processing

Download or read book Genetic Algorithms for Control and Signal Processing written by Kim F. Man and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage technology transfer in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology impacts all areas of the control discipline. New theory, new controllers, actuators, sensors, new industrial processes, computer methods, new applications, new philosophies, . . . , new challenges. Much of this development work resides in industrial reports, feasibility study papers and the reports of advanced collaborative projects. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of such new work in all aspects of industrial control for wider and rapid dissemination. The emerging technologies in control include fuzzy logic, intelligent control, neural networks and hardware developments like micro-electro-mechanical systems and autonomous vehicles. This volume describes the biological background, basic construction and application of the emerging technology of Genetic Algorithms. Dr Kim Man and his colleagues have written a book which is both a primer introducing the basic concepts and a research text which describes some of the more advanced applications of the genetic algorithmic method. The applications described are especially useful since they indicate the power of the GA method in solving a wide range of problems. These sections are also instructive in showing how the mechanics of the GA solutions are obtained thereby acting as a template for similar types of problems. The volume is a very welcome contribution to the Advances in Industrial Control Series. M. J. Grimble and M. A.

Book Modeling Verification and Exploration of Task Level Concurrency in Real Time Embedded Systems

Download or read book Modeling Verification and Exploration of Task Level Concurrency in Real Time Embedded Systems written by Filip Thoen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: system is a complex object containing a significant percentage of elec A tronics that interacts with the Real World (physical environments, humans, etc. ) through sensing and actuating devices. A system is heterogeneous, i. e. , is characterized by the co-existence of a large number of components of disparate type and function (for example, programmable components such as micro processors and Digital Signal Processors (DSPs), analog components such as AID and D/A converters, sensors, transmitters and receivers). Any approach to system design today must include software concerns to be viable. In fact, it is now common knowledge that more than 70% of the development cost for complex systems such as automotive electronics and communication systems are due to software development. In addition, this percentage is increasing constantly. It has been my take for years that the so-called hardware-software co-design problem is formulated at a too low level to yield significant results in shorten ing design time to the point needed for next generation electronic devices and systems. The level of abstraction has to be raised to the Architecture-Function co-design problem, where Function refers to the operations that the system is supposed to carry out and Architecture is the set of supporting components for that functionality. The supporting components as we said above are heteroge neous and contain almost always programmable components.

Book Algorithms and Architectures for Real Time Control 1991

Download or read book Algorithms and Architectures for Real Time Control 1991 written by International Federation of Automatic Control and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1992-05-26 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer scientists have long appreciated that the relationship between algorithms and architecture is crucial. Broadly speaking the more specialized the architecture is to a particular algorithm then the more efficient will be the computation. The penalty is that the architecture will become useless for computing anything other than that algorithm. This message holds for the algorithms used in real-time automatic control as much as any other field. These Proceedings will provide researchers in this field with a useful up-to-date reference source of recent developments.

Book Architecture and Design of Distributed Embedded Systems

Download or read book Architecture and Design of Distributed Embedded Systems written by Bernd Kleinjohann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the decreasing production costs of IT systems, applications that had to be realised as expensive PCBs formerly, can now be realised as a system-on-chip. Furthermore, low cost broadband communication media for wide area communication as well as for the realisation of local distributed systems are available. Typically the market requires IT systems that realise a set of specific features for the end user in a given environment, so called embedded systems. Some examples for such embedded systems are control systems in cars, airplanes, houses or plants, information and communication devices like digital TV, mobile phones or autonomous systems like service- or edutainment robots. For the design of embedded systems the designer has to tackle three major aspects: The application itself including the man-machine interface, The (target) architecture of the system including all functional and non-functional constraints and, the design methodology including modelling, specification, synthesis, test and validation. The last two points are a major focus of this book. This book documents the high quality approaches and results that were presented at the International Workshop on Distributed and Parallel Embedded Systems (DIPES 2000), which was sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), and organised by IFIP working groups WG10.3, WG10.4 and WG10.5. The workshop took place on October 18-19, 2000, in Schloß Eringerfeld near Paderborn, Germany. Architecture and Design of Distributed Embedded Systems is organised similar to the workshop. Chapters 1 and 4 (Methodology I and II) deal with different modelling and specification paradigms and the corresponding design methodologies. Generic system architectures for different classes of embedded systems are presented in Chapter 2. In Chapter 3 several design environments for the support of specific design methodologies are presented. Problems concerning test and validation are discussed in Chapter 5. The last two chapters include distribution and communication aspects (Chapter 6) and synthesis techniques for embedded systems (Chapter 7). This book is essential reading for computer science researchers and application developers.
