Book Alberta Benefits

Download or read book Alberta Benefits written by Nataliya Leonidivina Rylska and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sectoral increases in GDP/GSP and employment are the result of the indirect influence of the AHP and the MVP on sectors other than oil and gas facility construction, natural gas pipeline transportation, and oil and gas production. [...] However, it is uncertain which option for the connection between the MVP and the existing Alberta pipeline system will be chosen: extending the Alberta system to the NWT boundary or constructing the Alberta segment of the MVP down to the Alberta terminus. [...] The Government of the Northwest Territories and TransCanada PipeLines Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding in July 1999 identifying "an alignment of interests and a mutual desire to encourage the timely development of the natural gas reserves of the NWT and the construction of an economic, competitively priced, natural gas transmission infrastructure."11 The Mackenzie Delta producers, who [...] APG represents the interests of aboriginal groups of the NWT in the Mackenzie Gas Project and has a share in the MVP. [...] Summary of the Major Economic Impacts of the MGP Table 3.1 below summarizes the major economic impacts from the MGP for Canada, the Rest of Canada and Alberta.

Book excerpt: Alberta: A Health System Profile provides the first detailed description of Alberta’s health care system and the underpinning political and social forces that have shaped it. Drawing on significant wealth from government revenues generated through the energy sector, Alberta has been able to develop an extensive public health and health care infrastructure. Alberta has used its financial resources to attract health professionals by offering the highest levels of financial compensation in Canada. However, although it spends more per capita than other Canadian jurisdictions, Alberta’s health care system costs and health outcomes are mediocre compared to those of many other Canadian jurisdictions. This unexpected outcome is the consequence of the unique interplay of economic and political forces within Alberta’s political economy. Through an examination of Alberta’s political and economic history, and using research on the structures and services provided, Alberta: A Health System Profile provides a detailed description of the programs and services that constitute Alberta’s health care system.

Book The Values of Working in the Alberta Oil Sands

Download or read book The Values of Working in the Alberta Oil Sands written by Matthew E. McLaren and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-10-25 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an open house that will allow the world to view my experience working in the Alberta oil sand industry. I am a retired senior, who has been working in this phenomenal industry for many years and who has seen and experienced the technological changes that have been engineered to provide a safer and more productive environment for the exploration of Northern Alberta buried treasure. Distribution of wealth is a loaded statement in our democratic society. In the Alberta oil sand, I can safely use this statement because I have experienced the distribution of wealth in this remarkable industry. Oil sand companies are developing the oil sand industry, providing opportunity, where seniors like me and others, can become a member of the industries working family and share in the distribution of health and wealth. Equal opportunity does not mean equal pay. However, we are all given the opportunity to work and share in the development and distribution of this industrys most valuable buried treasure.

Book Forging Alberta s Constitutional Framework

Download or read book Forging Alberta s Constitutional Framework written by Richard Connors and published by University of Alberta. This book was released on 2005-11 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forging Alberta’s Constitutional Framework analyzes the principal events and processes that precipitated the emergence and formation of the law and legal culture of Alberta from the foundation of the Hudson’s Bay in 1670 until the eve of the centenary of the Province in 2005. The formation of Alberta’s constitution and legal institutions was by no means a simple process by which English and Canadian law was imposed upon a receptive and passive population. Challenges to authority, latent lawlessness, interaction between indigenous and settler societies, periods (pre- and post-1905) of jurisdictional confusion, and demands for individual, group, and provincial rights and recognitions are as much part of Alberta’s legal history as the heroic and mythic images of an emergent and orderly Canadian west patrolled from the outset by red coated mounted police and peopled by peaceful and law-abiding subjects of the Crown. Papers focus on the development of criminal law in the Canadian west in the nineteenth century; the Natural Resources Transfer Agreement of 1930; the National Energy Program of the 1980s; Federal-Provincial relations; and the role and responsibilities of the offices of Justices of the Peace and of the Lieutenant-Governor; and the legacies of the Lougheed and Klein governments.

Book Welfare Reform in Canada

Download or read book Welfare Reform in Canada written by Daniel Béland and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2015-09-18 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welfare Reform in Canada provides systematic knowledge of Canadian social assistance by assessing provincial welfare regimes and emphasizing changes since the late twentieth century. The book examines activation, social investment, and economic inequalities and provides nuanced perspectives on social welfare across Canada's provinces in relation to trends and issues in the country and beyond. These conceptual, international, and historical perspectives inform in-depth case studies of social assistance reform in each province. The key issues of social assistance in Canada, including gender relations, immigrants, Aboriginal peoples, and the impact of activation programs, are addressed, as is the possibility of convergence taking place in provincial welfare policy. This book is the second volume in the Johnson-Shoyama Series on Public Policy, published by the University of Toronto Press in association with the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, an interdisciplinary centre for research, teaching, and executive training with campuses at the Universities of Regina and Saskatchewan.

Book Alberta s Cornerstone

Download or read book Alberta s Cornerstone written by Shari Peyerl and published by Heritage House Publishing Co. This book was released on 2022-05-26 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fascinating exploration of a vanished settlement in Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, told within the framework of an archaeologist’s memoir. While excavating Alberta’s most important historic sandstone quarry, archaeologist and oral historian Shari Peyerl uncovers fascinating clues about the province’s past. From metal fragments and dusty artifacts, she pieces together a story about a settlement situated in today’s picturesque Glenbow Provincial Park. Chronicling the development of ranching, village life, industry, and the Canadian Pacific Railway, Alberta’s Cornerstone is an engaging and authoritative history that reads like an archaeological detective story. As Peyerl dispels archaeological myths, explains scientific techniques, and shares the excitement of unearthing lost histories, she introduces readers to a colourful array of characters who once lived at Glenbow, including a local embezzler, Alberta’s first graduate nurse, a Canadian soccer champion, an acclaimed mathematician, and a member of an international spy agency. Written for the general public, the detective-like attention to detail of this carefully annotated book will also appeal to historical scholars. Beautifully illustrated with modern colour photographs and many historic photographs (including fifteen previously unpublished), Alberta’s Cornerstone brings the ghosts of Glenbow to life.
