Specifically designed to meet the needs of pupils of any age with special educational needs, the books break down phonics into manageable core elements and provide a huge wealth of resources to support teachers in teaching reading and spelling. Book 1: Building Basics introduces basic sounds and explores their relationship with letters. It focuses on sounds and letters where there is a simple 1:1 correspondence between the two, and explores the sounds in simple words that follow the pattern of vowel-consonant or consonant-vowel-consonant. Sounds are grouped into seven sets, with each set containing more than 50 engaging activities, including: sound story, dynamic blending, reading race, spot the word and spelling challenge. Thorough guidance is provided on how to deliver each activity, as well as a lesson planner template, handy word lists and posters for teachers and teaching assistants to use to support learning. Each book in the series gradually builds on children’s understanding of sounds and letters and provides scaffolded support for children to learn about every sound in the English language. Offering tried and tested material which can be photocopied for each use, this is an invaluable resource to simplify phonics teaching for teachers and teaching assistants and provide fun new ways of learning phonics for all children. This book is accompanied by a companion resource, 'Phonics for Pupils with Complex SEND ', to be used alongside the Phonics for Pupils with Special Educational Needs programme. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An engrossing biography that attempts to fathom the motivations of an infamous sixteenth-century Spanish general Ferdinand Alvarez de Toledo, the third duke of Alba (1507-82), is known to history as "the butcher of Flanders." The general who carried out Philip II's repressive policies in the Netherlands, he was responsible for the massacre of thousands of men, women, and children, considering it better to lay waste an entire country than leave it in the hands of heretics. Alba came to represent for contemporaries as well as for future generations the unacceptable face of Spanish imperialism. In this intriguing re-evaluation, Henry Kamen narrates the duke's personal history, looking beyond the conventional image to reveal motives and to explain rather than simply to condemn. Kamen examines the early years of Alba's life, his travels over the whole of Europe, and the complex military and political career that made him Spain's leading general of the imperial age. Drawing on the duke's rich and expressive surviving correspondence, Kamen explores Alba's beliefs and considers his infamous actions within the contexts of his time and of the monarchs--Emperor Charles V and King Philip II of Spain--whom he served.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The actor is an 'athlete of emotions, ' says Antonin Artaud, and though actors are an extreme case, now, thanks to Alba Emoting, the capacity to regulate our emotions in a simple physical way, without mental intervention, is possible for everyone. Alba Emoting: A Scientific Method for Emotional Induction offers us the means to reexamine six basic emotions that are universal: joy, sadness, anger, fear, erotic, and tenderness; to recognize them accurately, without confusions, and to express them genuinely, just as children do. Mastering the triad of "breath + posture + facial expression," one can Step-Out from a feeling of anger, attain neutrality, or even better, enter into a tender mood; one can transform sadness or paralyzing fear into mobilizing joy. From such an encounter with the essential, we can observe and better understand the complex mixed emotions that we normally feel, realize the anxieties, the neuroses, the depressions, and also the wonderful sublime emotions, such as that of spirituality. "One can lie through the mouth; the accompanying gesture, however, tells the truth," says Nietzsche. Alba Emoting is a system that allows people to get into physical contact with their neurologically basic emotions, by using precise breathing patterns, postural attitudes, and facial expressions that go beyond words.

Book The House of Bernarda Alba

Download or read book The House of Bernarda Alba written by Federico Garcia Lorca and published by Faber & Faber. This book was released on 2014-06-12 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finished just two months before the author's murder on 18 August 1936 by a gang of Franco's supporters, The House of Bernarda Alba is now accepted as Lorca's great masterpiece of love and loathing. Five daughters live together in a single household with a tyrannical mother. When the father of all but the eldest girl dies, a cynical marriage is advanced which will have tragic consequences for the whole family. Lorca's fascinatingly modern play, rendered here in an English version by David Hare, speaks as powerfully as a political metaphor of oppression as it does as domestic drama. The House of Bernarda Alba premiered at the National Theatre, London, in March 2005.

Book Venezuela ALBA and the Limits of Postneoliberal Regionalism in Latin America and the Caribbean

Download or read book Venezuela ALBA and the Limits of Postneoliberal Regionalism in Latin America and the Caribbean written by Asa K. Cusack and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-13 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive analysis of the implementation, functioning, and impact of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), cornerstone of Venezuelan foreign policy and standard-bearer of “postneoliberal” regionalism during the “Left Turn” in Latin America and the Caribbean (1998-2016). It reveals that cooperation via ALBA’s regionalised social missions, state multinationals, development bank, People’s Trade Agreement, SUCRE virtual currency, and Petrocaribe soft-loan scheme has often been hampered by complexity and conflict between the national political economies of Ecuador, Dominica, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, and especially Venezuela. Shared commitments to endogenous development, autonomy within mutlipolarity, and novel sources of legitimacy are undermined by serious deficiencies in control and accountability, which stem largely from the defining influence of Venezuela’s dysfunctional economy and governance. This dual dependency on Venezuela leaves the future of ALBA hanging in the balance.

Book Cantine di Alba Winemakers of Alba

Download or read book Cantine di Alba Winemakers of Alba written by Jmarketing and published by Youcanprint. This book was released on 2016-04-13 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The first guide to the wineries of Alba The publication of the guide to the wineries of the city of Alba is something to celebrate. In fact it is one of the first attempts to unite the plethora of producers in the capital of the Langhe in a common cause, creating a synergy and togetherness that we are certain is just the first step toward long-term promotion. In fact, the idea behind the publication was that it would act as a booster – a springboard for the producers of Alba to propose their participation in national and international events with the forces and the content that only a solid group can guarantee. One must therefore flip through the guide aware that it is in evolution, hoping that it will lay the foundations for an association that will continue to carry the flag of Alba’s winemaking out in the world.

  • Pages : 198 pages

Download or read book Alba Longa written by Riccardo Bellucci and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where was Alba Longa? Over the centuries, this question has stimulated the most varied conjectures, by scholars, poets, historians, philologists and, of course, archaeologists. Fantasy has often merged with reality, myth with history. All of these hypotheses present some credible data, but mixed with more improbable aspects drawn from either ancient writers or uncorroborated documents. This, in turn, has led to incompatibilities between the hypotheses and the reality of archaeological excavations. The scholar Riccardo Bellucci, after years of systematic research, now proposes a coherent and consistent solution to the location of the Mater Urbis, in a previously unsuspected area. The motivation, intuition and documentation that has led Bellucci to decide on his theory, will fascinate everyone; and stimulate debate on the truth of his conclusions. The book then goes beyond the story of Alba Longa itself to provide further fascinating detail related to the area.

Book Remaking the American Mainstream

Download or read book Remaking the American Mainstream written by Richard D. Alba and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-30 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this age of multicultural democracy, the idea of assimilation--that the social distance separating immigrants and their children from the mainstream of American society closes over time--seems outdated and, in some forms, even offensive. But as Richard Alba and Victor Nee show in the first systematic treatment of assimilation since the mid-1960s, it continues to shape the immigrant experience, even though the geography of immigration has shifted from Europe to Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Institutional changes, from civil rights legislation to immigration law, have provided a more favorable environment for nonwhite immigrants and their children than in the past. Assimilation is still driven, in claim, by the decisions of immigrants and the second generation to improve their social and material circumstances in America. But they also show that immigrants, historically and today, have profoundly changed our mainstream society and culture in the process of becoming Americans. Surveying a variety of domains--language, socioeconomic attachments, residential patterns, and intermarriage--they demonstrate the continuing importance of assimilation in American life. And they predict that it will blur the boundaries among the major, racially defined populations, as nonwhites and Hispanics are increasingly incorporated into the mainstream.
