THE AKIBA can be a daunting place to navigate, but now, this clever new guidebook presents the wonderfully eccentric appeal of the district in an easy-to-understand and entertaining format -- a fusion of manga and practical travel information that will prove invaluable to the foreign visitor. Book The Book of Formation or Sepher Yetzirah

Download or read book The Book of Formation or Sepher Yetzirah written by A. E. Waite and published by Nicolas-Hays, Inc.. This book was released on 2004-06-01 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sepher Yetzirah, or Book of Formation, although very short, is probably the most important of the Kabalistic texts. Its secrets were passed on in the Hebrew oral tradition until it was written down in the 2nd century b.c.e. It lays out the principles of Kabalistic cosmology and the Tree of Life, how humankind (the microcosm) reflects the Divine (the macrocosm). It also sets forth the Hebrew doctrine of Logos--the creation of the world in numbers, letters, and sound. As such, it is a seminal text for all serious magicians. Stenring has made a word-for-word translation from several texts, choosing only those parts which he believed to be authentic. He reveals the text's secrets in his diagrams, tables, and extensive notes. His "Master Key to the Theoretical and Practical Kabala" is a diagram of the correspondences between the English and Hebrew alphabets and is not found in other translations of the Sepher Yetzirah. Also unique in this translation is Stenring's assignment of certain tarot cards to the paths on the Tree of Life. Several authors have done this before, but Stenring asserts that he arrived at his correspondences on his own. The introduction by Waite surveys the historical background of the Sepher Yetzirah translations and the import of this foundational Kabbalistic text.

Book Studies in Jewish Myth and Messianism

This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the nature and development of Jewish myth from the Talmudic period through Kabbalah to Hasidism. It describes the changes in this myth in its various stages and the external influences on it. The author shows that myth is in the essence of the Jewish religion and that, rather than being created out of external influences, Kabbalah is one of its manifestions. The book also deals with the related subject of Messianism, and delves into the special spiritual personalities of some messianic figures in Jewish history to show how myth was incarnate in them.

Book In This Hour Heschel s Writings in Nazi Germany and London Exile

Download or read book In This Hour Heschel s Writings in Nazi Germany and London Exile written by Abraham Joshua Heschel and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2019-06-01 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In This Hour offers the first English translations of selected German writings by Abraham Joshua Heschel from his tumultuous years in Nazi-ruled Germany and months in London exile, before he found refuge in the United States. Moreover, several of the works have never been published in any language. Composed during a time of intense crisis for European Jewry, these writings both argue for and exemplify a powerful vision of spiritually rich Jewish learning and its redemptive role in the past and the future of the Jewish people. The collection opens with the text of a speech in which Heschel laid out with passion his vision for Jewish education. Then it goes on to present his teachings: a set of essays about the rabbis of the Mishnaic period, whose struggles paralleled those of his own time; the biography of the medieval Jewish scholar and leader Don Yitzhak Abravanel; reflections on the power and meaning of repentance, written for the High Holidays in 1936; and a short story on Jewish exile, written for Hanukkah 1937. The collection closes with a set of four recently discovered meditations—on suffering, prayer, spirituality, and God—in which Heschel grapples with the horrors unfolding around him. Taken together, these essays and story fill a significant void in Heschel’s bibliography: his Nazi Germany and London exile years. These translations convey the spare elegance of Heschel’s prose, and the introduction and detailed notes make the volume accessible to readers of all knowledge levels. As Heschel teaches history, his voice is more than that of a historian: the old becomes new, and the struggles of one era shed light on another. Even as Heschel quotes ancient sources, his words address the issues of his own time and speak urgently to ours.

Book Systems Engineering

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mangey Ram
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2019-04-18
  • ISBN : 135105645X
  • Pages : 227 pages

Download or read book Systems Engineering written by Mangey Ram and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A substantial amount of research has been conducted on consecutive k-out-of-n and related reliability systems over the past four decades. These systems have been used to model various engineering systems such as the microwave stations of telecoms network, oil pipeline systems, and vacuum systems in an electron accelerator. As such, studies of reliability properties of consecutive k-out-of-n structures have attracted significant attention from both theoretical and practical approaches. In the modern era of technology, the redundancies are employed in the various industrial systems to prevent them from failure/sudden failure or to recover from failures. This book is meant to provide knowledge and help engineers and academicians in understanding reliability engineering by using k-out-of-n structures. The material is also targeted at postgraduate or senior undergraduate students pursuing reliability engineering.
