Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YOU HAVE MORE CAREER CHOICES today than anybody in history. You can be anything you want to be. Such an important decision-making process deserves thorough research and careful consideration. Take the time to do it right, and you could be rewarded for the rest of your life. Some people know what they want to do with their lives much earlier than others do. They are typically struck with a passion for something that never leaves them. When the time comes to start making big decisions, like choosing a college major and associated career path, they already know what they want to do. When asked, many airplane pilots say they always knew that they wanted to fly. Pilots have been imbued with a sense of adventure since the first dreamer with a set of artificial wings jumped off a building to prove a point. Aircraft are much safer today, but it still takes a special person to strap into the cockpit and take flight. Airline pilots shoulder enormous responsibility on a daily basis. A pilot on a long--haul flight can be responsible for a $200-million aircraft and the safety of hundreds of passengers. Opportunities for pilots have never been better, although competition for the best-paying jobs with the major airlines is tough. Thankfully, the growth of smaller, regional airlines has created employment openings for new pilots and a cushion for major airline pilots subject to the layoffs and furloughs that have become fairly common in this industry. In fact, new federal government rules increasing the minimum number of flight hours required for pilots flying for small regional airlines will likely create a shortage of qualified pilots for the top jobs, at least in the short term. This should result in additional opportunities for you, as you start your career as a pilot. This new Careers Ebook contains a wealth of unbiased information about an occupational field, based on the latest national surveys. Careers Ebooks cover attractive and unattractive sides, opportunities, education necessary, personal qualifications required, earnings, descriptions of different job specialties, first person accounts by those in the field, and how to get started; including practical advice on what to do now. There are live links to schools and colleges, associations, periodicals and other sources of reliable information."

Book The Determinants of Career Decisions of Air Force Pilots

Download or read book The Determinants of Career Decisions of Air Force Pilots written by Russell Theodore Roth and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study analyses the individual career decisions of Air Force pilots. The inability of the Air Force to retain adequate numbers of qualified pilots in recent years motivated this study. This thesis presents a model of career choice based upon individual utility maximization. The individual is assumed to maximize his utility between continuing as an Air Force pilot and moving to the private sector. Private sector employment may be in either the airline industry or some other segment of the economy. A utility-maximizing choice is made in each discrete time period. The data used in the estimation of this model comes from officer personnel records for pilots who began service between 1968 and 1972. Their individual characteristics were combined with the appropriate economic factors in each year to model their choices. An error components specification with an equicorrelated correlation matrix was used to estimate a multivariate probit model. Likelihood ratio tests with an independent multivariate probit model conclusively rejected the independent probit model. The results of the estimations are consistent with the theoretical model presented. The rate of airline hires has a negative effect on retention. The real wage level of Air Force pilots and their pay in relation to civilian pilots has a positive effect on the rate of retention and the individual probability of remaining in the Air Force. The rate of unemployment also has a positive effect on the probability of remaining in the Air Force. (Author).

Book Career Choice Motivation for Commercial Pilots

Download or read book Career Choice Motivation for Commercial Pilots written by Brett Watts and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Career choice motivation research studies the factors involved during a person’s decision-making process regarding which career to pursue (Skatova & Ferguson, 2014). These factors are often studied in individuals who have not yet entered the workforce, such as students. Although there is a significant amount of research on career choice motivations for doctors, dentists, and other related fields, research on career choice motivations for pilots is sparse. As air traffic is expected to grow at approximately 4.7% per year for the next 20 years (Federal Aviation Administration, 2022), a key factor in the aviation industry’s growth is the availability of pilots to operate the increased number of flights. Therefore, pilot training institutions need to find ways to attract students to become pilots and train in their programs to satisfy the demand for qualified pilots. This study aimed to identify the key motivational factors of current flight training students to better understand how individuals are motivated to pursue a career in aviation.

Book excerpt: A poetic and nuanced exploration of the human experience of flight that reminds us of the full imaginative weight of our most ordinary journeys—and reawakens our capacity to be amazed. The twenty-first century has relegated airplane flight—a once remarkable feat of human ingenuity—to the realm of the mundane. Mark Vanhoenacker, a 747 pilot who left academia and a career in the business world to pursue his childhood dream of flight, asks us to reimagine what we—both as pilots and as passengers—are actually doing when we enter the world between departure and discovery. In a seamless fusion of history, politics, geography, meteorology, ecology, family, and physics, Vanhoenacker vaults across geographical and cultural boundaries; above mountains, oceans, and deserts; through snow, wind, and rain, renewing a simultaneously humbling and almost superhuman activity that affords us unparalleled perspectives on the planet we inhabit and the communities we form.

Book LEARN TO FLY AND BECOME A PILOT

Download or read book LEARN TO FLY AND BECOME A PILOT written by Vesa Turpeinen and published by VESA Turpeinen. This book was released on 2019-04-09 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Don't think you can become a pilot? I think you can - learning to fly is easier than you think! Have you always dreamed of becoming a pilot? Are you wondering if now is a good time to become a pilot? Do you want to get started with flight training, but need help choosing a school? All your questions will be answered in this book! This book may be the most important book you will ever read if you want to become a professional pilot... But first a warning, this is not a book about "learning to fly" in a literal sense. You won't learn how aerodynamics work or how to control an aircraft in flight - that's something you will learn once you start your flight training. Instead, this book contains information that flight schools won't teach you. The information you NEED to know before you should commit to flight training! The knowledge you gain from this book is essential for you to have a successful and enjoyable career as a commercial or airline pilot! The main focus of the book is on FAA and EASA flight training in the U.S., but most of the principles apply regardless of your nationality. Whether you want to earn your private pilot certificate, become a corporate pilot, or become a captain in a major airline - this book is for you. And one note to the ladies - it is now the golden age for female pilots! Did you know you could become a commercial pilot, or even a flight instructor, at the age of 18 with less than 12 months of training? Right now is an excellent time to become a pilot because there is a global pilot shortage that is expected to last for the next two decades or longer. Boeing estimates that there will be a worldwide demand for 790,000 pilots between 2018 and 2037. That's a lot of pilots! How do I know the pilot shortage is not just a myth? Currently, most airlines in China are hiring airline captains from foreign countries because there are not enough Chinese pilots. And what's the pay like? Boeing 737 or Airbus 320 captains can earn an annual salary up to $380,000! That's over 30k per month! ...and, wait for it--it's all tax-free (in China)! Yes, it will be a long road to become an airline captain earning a good salary. But guess what? Reading this book will help you decide if you want to pursue the career. Who is this Author? With Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Vesa knows a thing or two about aviation. With several years as a flight instructor, assistant chief flight instructor, and ultimately as the Chief Flight Instructor of a major flight academy, he is an expert in pilot training. Having trained hundreds of pilots who currently work for many airlines (including many Chinese airlines), he has the first-hand knowledge of the demand for new pilots. Because of his experience as a corporate airline captain, he understands the benefits and downsides of pilot life and can help you decide whether it's a good career path for you! Here are some of the questions this book will answer: Is a pilot career a good choise for me? How much does flight training cost? What are the medical requirements for pilots? How can I finance flight training without any savings or income? What are the benefits and downsides of a pilot career? What kind of certificates and ratings do I need to start working as a professional pilot? How to choose the best flight school (and flight instructor) based on my individual needs? Flight training is fast-paced, fun, and exciting. Why not get started now?
