Book Ventilation and Airflow in Buildings

Download or read book Ventilation and Airflow in Buildings written by Claude-Alain Roulet and published by Earthscan. This book was released on 2012-05-16 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy efficiency in buildings requires, among other things, that ventilation be appropriately dimensioned: too much ventilation wastes energy, and insufficient ventilation leads to poor indoor air quality and low comfort.Studies have shown that ventilation systems seldom function according to their commissioned design. They have also shown that airflow measurement results are essential in improving a ventilation system. This key handbook explains why ventilation in buildings should be measured and describes how to measure it, giving applied examples for each measurement method. The book will help building physicists and ventilation engineers to properly commission ventilation systems and appropriately diagnose ventilation problems throughout the life of a building. Drawing on over 20 years of experience and the results of recent international research projects, this is the definitive guide to diagnosing airflow patterns within buildings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late Dr. Thurlbeck wrote one of the leading texts on the history, diagnosis, and management of chronic airflow obstruction. This new tex t continues his tradition of excellence with a completely updated appr oach to the subject. First, Thurlbeck's Chronic Airflow Obstruction, 2 nd Edition discusses key terminology and classifications to provide a solid foundation for the topic. Then it guides the reader through the morphology, etiology, epidemiology, and pathophysiology of today's mos t common chronic airflow disorders. When appropriate, the latest manag ement options are outlined. And, an entire section describes the effec ts of chronic airflow obstruction on other organ systems.

Book Practical Engine Airflow

Download or read book Practical Engine Airflow written by John Baechtel and published by CarTech Inc. This book was released on 2015-12-15 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The efficient flow of air through an engine is instrumental for producing maximum power. To maximize performance, engine builders seek to understand how air flows through components and ultimately through the entire engine. Engine builders use this knowledge and apply specific practices and principles to unlock horsepower within an engine; this applies to all engine types, including V-8s, V-6s, and imported 4-cylinder engines. Former Hot Rod magazine editor and founder of Westech Performance Group John Baechtel explains airflow dynamics through an engine in layman's terms so you can easily absorb it and apply it. The principles of airflow are explained; specifically, the physics of air and how it flows through major engine components, including the intake, heads, cylinders, and exhaust system. The most efficient and least restricted path through an engine is the key to high performance. To get to this higher level, the author explains atmospheric pressure, air density, and brake specific fuel consumption so you understand the properties of fuel for tuning. Baechtel covers the primary factors for optimizing the airflow path. This includes the fundamentals of air motion, air velocity, and boundary layers; obstructions; and pressure changes. Flowing air through the heads and the combustion chamber is key and is comprehensively explained. Also comprehensively explored is the exhaust system's airflow, in particular primary tube size and length, collector function, and scavenging. Chapters also include flowbench testing, evaluating flow numbers, and using airflow software. In the simplest terms, an engine is an air pump. Whether you're a professional engine builder or a serious amateur engine builder, you must understand engine airflow dynamics and must apply these principles if you want to optimize performance. If you want to achieve ultimate engine performance, you need this book.

Book Preliminary Investigation of Diffuser Wall Bleed to Control Combustor Inlet Airflow Distribution

Download or read book Preliminary Investigation of Diffuser Wall Bleed to Control Combustor Inlet Airflow Distribution written by Albert J. Juhasz and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Velocity profile control tests were conducted with a short annular diffuser equipped with wall bleed capability. The diffuser area ratio was 4, and the length to inlet height ratio was 1. 5. Results show that the diffuser radial exit velocity profile may be shifted towards either the inner or outer diffuser wall by, respectively, bleeding off a small fraction of the total flow through the inner or outer wall. Based on these results, application of the diffuser bleed technique to a gas turbine combustor should be considered. The advantages of such a combustor could be shorter length, reduced idle exhaust emissions, and improved altitude relight capability.
