Book Handbook of Global Logistics

Download or read book Handbook of Global Logistics written by James H. Bookbinder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-06 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global logistics entails tradeoffs in facility location, distribution networks, the routing and scheduling of deliveries by different modes of travel (e.g., air, water, truck, rail), procurement, and the overall management of international supply chains. In an increasingly global economy, then, logistics has become a very important matter in the success or failure of an organization. It is an integral part of supply chain management that involves not just operations management considerations, but production engineering and regional science issues as well. As Director of the prestigious Waterloo Management of Integrated Manufacturing Systems Research Group (WATMIMS), which specializes in logistics and manufacturing, Jim Bookbinder is uniquely qualified to edit a handbook on global logistics. He has aligned a set of prominent contributors for this volume. The chapters in the Handbook are organized into discrete sections that examine modes; logistics in particular countries; operations within a free-trade zone; innovative features impacting international logistics; case studies of specific companies; and a look toward the future. Contributors are from the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and they push the state of the art in areas such as trade vs. security; border issues; cabotage within NAFTA; Green logistics corridors within the EU; inland ports; direct-to-store considerations; and all the questions that need to be confronted in any given region. This will certainly appeal to researchers and practitioners alike, and could serve as required or supplementary reading in graduate-level logistics courses as well.

Book Dictionary of Environmental Health

Download or read book Dictionary of Environmental Health written by Frank R. Spellman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-04-11 with total page 651 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every branch of science, every profession, and every engineering process has its own language for communication. Environmental health is no different. To work even at the edge of the major environmental aspects of this challenging field, you must acquire a fundamental but wide-ranging vocabulary and understanding of the components that make it up. As Voltaire said: "If you wish to converse with me, define your terms." In this publication, we define, and in many instances, fully explain in plain English, the terms or "tools" (concepts and ideas) used by environmental health professionals, environmental science professionals, safety/industrial hygiene practitioners/engineers, and non-science professionals. It is important to point out that environmental health is not a single topic, but rather a complex, colorful, and diversified range of interrelated subjects including all of the basic sciences, computer science, government, engineering, energy, renewable energy, hydraulic fracking, security, disease, industrial hygiene, injury identification prevention and control, and much more. The practicing environmental health professional, specialist, technician or student of environmental health should know these topics—without them it is difficult, if not impossible, to practice in any of the environmental fields. The Dictionary of Environmental Health is a one-of-a-kind comprehensive reference that serves as both a dictionary and encyclopedia. This book is an indispensable resource for individuals throughout environmental, occupational, and public health industries. It defines thousands of words illustrating the enormous magnitude of the environmental health field. Terms are alphabetically arranged with concise and succinct definitions along with expanded explanations wherever needed. These terms and definitions are drawn from varied, specialized, and technical environmental fields that can be understood by professional, students, and general readers alike.

Book Manuals Combined WARRIOR TRAINING CENTER Air Assault School Handbook 101st Airborne Division Air Assault The Sabalauski Air Assault School Handbook 101st Airborne Division Air Assault Gold Book

Download or read book Manuals Combined WARRIOR TRAINING CENTER Air Assault School Handbook 101st Airborne Division Air Assault The Sabalauski Air Assault School Handbook 101st Airborne Division Air Assault Gold Book written by and published by Jeffrey Frank Jones. This book was released on with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air Assault is a combat insertion unit using helicopters to transport and insert soldiers into battle, provide medical evacuation, provide close air support, provide resupply operations. It is usually a company or bat-talion sized element. The term Air Assault derives from two types of operations known as Air Mobility and Vertical Envelopment. Air Mobility Operations were de-veloped by the German Army during WWII in the 1930‘s. The US Army soon adopted this method of offensive operations in 1941 using wooden gliders. The glider was assisted into the air by being towed by a larger aircraft and then released. The pilot had to navigate the large glider loaded with a team of infantry soldiers to the landing zone behind enemy lines, at night and attempt to land safely. Once the pilot landed the glider, he would join the mission as another infantry soldier with the team that he flew in. Although the gliders and techniques used were advanced for that time period they did pose some disadvantages. Once the aircraft was landed safely that team of soldiers were cut off from allied troops. Pilots had to be cross trained with infantry tactics so he could operate as both roles. The air mobility glider was abandoned after WWII after the invention of the helicopter. PREFACE 1 November 2011 1. The Sabalauski Air Assault School (TSAAS) is a FORSCOM TDA unit that trains leaders and Soldiers assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), as well as other Army units and armed services in several courses. By conducting the Air Assault and Pathfinder Courses The Sabalauski Air Assault School develops technically proficient and confident Soldiers capable of safely executing immediate and sustained air assault operations. The school also trains and qualifies military Rappel Masters, Fast Rope Masters and SPIES Masters in the application of infiltration and extraction techniques. The school provides quality basic airborne refresher and jumpmaster refresher training to airborne capable units. Finally, the school provides command and control of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Screaming Eagle Parachute Team. 2. This handbook is designed to facilitate the mission of the school, serving as a baseline of information for the Air Assault Course. It is not a substitute for applicable Army regulations, field manuals, training circulars, or technical manuals, but it is designed to complement the guidance in these publications in the area of air assault operations. The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) disclaims any responsibility for incidents occurring while applying these procedures. 3. The proponent for this handbook is the Commander of The Sabalauski Air Assault School. This 2011 update provides users with the latest doctrinal information regarding Air Assault Operations. Users of this publication are encouraged to recommend improvements or changes in writing to ACofS, G3/5/7/DPTM; ATTN: AFZB-K-GT-AA, Fort Campbell, KY 42223-5000. The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) has a long and rich heritage. As the world’s only functional Air Assault Division, the 101st Airborne has pioneered the development of Air Assault tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs). These tactics were quantifiably demonstrated in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm and most recently during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. We are currently at war with dangerous and adaptive terrorist forces in complex environments. In response, the Division continually refines its TTPs, exploiting our unique capabilities to defeat our nation’s enemies. This reference publication, The Gold Book June 2014, re-establishes the baseline for the planning and execution of Air Assault operations.
