Download or read book Airborne Measurements for Environmental Research written by Manfred Wendisch and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-22 with total page 659 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first comprehensive review of airborne measurement principles covers all atmospheric components and surface parameters. It describes the common techniques to characterize aerosol particles and cloud/precipitation elements, while also explaining radiation quantities and pertinent hyperspectral and active remote sensing measurement techniques along the way. As a result, the major principles of operation are introduced and exemplified using specific instruments, treating both classic and emerging measurement techniques. The two editors head an international community of eminent scientists, all of them accepted and experienced specialists in their field, who help readers to understand specific problems related to airborne research, such as immanent uncertainties and limitations. They also provide guidance on the suitability of instruments to measure certain parameters and to select the correct type of device. While primarily intended for climate, geophysical and atmospheric researchers, its relevance to solar system objects makes this work equally appealing to astronomers studying atmospheres of solar system bodies with telescopes and space probes.

Download or read book A Survey of Measurements and Measuring Techniques in Rapidly Distorted Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Eli Reshotko and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This AGARDograph presents a wide range of recent work on compressible turbulent boundary layers. Special attention has been paid to flows with rapid changes in pressure including flows with shock waves, curved walls and expansions. Recent developments in the theory and experimental practice for these flows are presented. The application of rapid distortion theory to flows traversing expansion and shock waves is reviewed. This is followed by an account of experiments in progress aimed at elucidating the large scale structures present in supersonic boundary layers. The current status of the techniques of Laser-Doppler and Hot Wire anemometry in supersonic flow is discussed, and a new interferometric technique for the determination of wall-stress is described. The use of small pressure transducers to deduce information abut the structure of zero pressure-gradient and severly perturbed boundary layers is investigated. Finally there is an extension of the review and data presentation of AGARDographs 223, 253 and 263 to cover some of the experiments dealing with rapidly distorted layers.
Download or read book Turbulence and Dispersion in the Planetary Boundary Layer written by Francesco Tampieri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-28 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive review of our current understanding of the planetary boundary layer, particularly the turbulent exchanges of momentum, heat and passive scalars between the surface of the Earth and the atmosphere. It presents and discusses the observations and the theory of the turbulent boundary layer, both for homogeneous and more realistic heterogeneous surface conditions, as well as the dispersion of tracers. Lastly it addresses the main problems arising due to turbulence in weather, climate and atmospheric composition numerical models. Written for postgraduate and advanced undergraduate-level students and atmospheric researchers, it is also of interest to anyone wanting to understand the findings and obtain an update on problems that have yet to be solved.
