Book Air sea Energy Exchange in Lagrangian Temperature and Dew Point Forecasts

Download or read book Air sea Energy Exchange in Lagrangian Temperature and Dew Point Forecasts written by Ronald M. Reap and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Techniques Development Laboratory three-dimensional trajectory model was updated in June 1971 to include the effects of air-sea interactions. Output from the model is currently transmitted via facsimile for use as guidance in severe storm forecasting. Past verification statistics for the model have shown a marked tendency to under-forecast surface temperature and dew point along coastal areas during the cold seasons

Book Forecasting extratropical storm surges for the northeast coast of the United States

Download or read book Forecasting extratropical storm surges for the northeast coast of the United States written by N. Arthur Pore and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Weather Service (NWS) has developed a technique for forecasting extratropical storm surges along the northeast coast of the United States. The storm surge is caused mainly by the strong winds associated with extra-tropical storms over nearshore areas.

Book Synoptic Climatological Studies of Precipitation in the Plateau States from 850 700 and 500 millibar Lows During Spring

Download or read book Synoptic Climatological Studies of Precipitation in the Plateau States from 850 700 and 500 millibar Lows During Spring written by August F. Korte and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synoptic climatology of precipitation over the Plateau States or intermountain region of the western part of the United States during spring, associated with 850-, 700- and 500-mb Lows, is derived using 12-hr precipitation amounts (expressed as a percent of the 7-day normal) for 12 yr at 157 stations.

Book Mean Diurnal and Monthly Height Changes in the Troposphere Over North American and Vicinity

Download or read book Mean Diurnal and Monthly Height Changes in the Troposphere Over North American and Vicinity written by August F. Korte and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Map of mean diurnal (12-hourly) and median (midway between 0000 and 1200 GMT) monthly height changes at the 850-, 700-, and 500-mb levels over North America and vicinity from January through December are presented, using grid-point data from an earlier study. The height changes were objectively derived and analyzed by computer. The use of these charts as an aid to weather forecasting is briefly described

Book Comparison and Verification of Dynamical and Statistical Lake Erie Storm Surge Forecasts

Download or read book Comparison and Verification of Dynamical and Statistical Lake Erie Storm Surge Forecasts written by William Shelby Richardson and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory and the Techniques Development Laboratory have compared Lake Erie storm surge forecasts produced by a dynamical and a statistical method for several months in 1977 and 1978. The dynamical method yields much better forecasts at Buffalo and slightly better forecasts at Toledo.

Book The Moisture Model for the Local AFOS MOS Program

Download or read book The Moisture Model for the Local AFOS MOS Program written by David Alan Unger and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The moisture model used for the Local AFOS MOS Program (LAMP) is described in this paper. The model predicts the degree of saturation in the single layer between 1000 and 500 mb by a moisture parameter known as the saturation deficit. Moisture is advected under the assumption that no evaporation or condensation occurs along the trajectory. The thickness and elevation of the advected air column determine the degree of saturation. Precipitation is forecast when the air column is saturated.

Book A Preliminary View of Storm Surges Before and After Storm Modifications for Alongshore moving Storms

Download or read book A Preliminary View of Storm Surges Before and After Storm Modifications for Alongshore moving Storms written by Chester P. Jelesnianski and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical means are used to compute storm surges (meteorological tides) in a standard basin of constant slope, bounded by a straightline coast. All storm tracks in this study are constrained to lie parallel to the coast; the storm can lie at any distance from the coast and travel with any speed, but once set, the distance and speed are invariant with time. Two driving forces, wind stress and atmospheric pressure gradient, are used to generate surges; they are derived from an analytic wind profile. The model storm is described with two invariant parameters, storm size and difference between ambient and central pressure of the storm.
