Book Air Quality Monitoring and Control Strategy

Download or read book Air Quality Monitoring and Control Strategy written by S.P Singal and published by ALPHA SCIENCE INTERNATIONAL LIMITED. This book was released on 2012-01-24 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AIR QUALITY MONITORING AND CONTROL STRATEGY essentially deals with air quality and underlines a strategy to improve it. To this effect this volume describes briefly the problem of air pollution, impact of various pollutants present in the indoor/outdoor atmosphere on health, the various monitoring techniques/instruments and their practical use, instructions, precautions etc., control instrumentation and environment impact assessment. The answer to questions like the need for air quality monitoring, choice of monitoring location and parameters, averaging time and frequencies etc. has been provided along with the basic statistics required to work out certain statistical figures in air quality. The science of meteorology, an important subject that takes care of dispersion/dilution of air pollutants at a place, has been discussed briefly. A chapter on noise pollution, another vital air toxicant, has also been dealt with to a certain limit. Two case studies have been incorporated to elucidate the importance of EIA and the need to develop a strategy for management of ambient air quality. Revised new standards have also been included.

Book excerpt: This title includes a number of Open Access chapters. This new compendium provides a nuanced look at monitoring, measuring, and modeling air quality pollution in conjunction with its effects on public health and the environment. Air pollution has been proven to be a major environmental risk to health. Protecting and improving air quality requires knowledge about the types and levels of pollutants being emitted. It also requires the best possible measurement and monitoring capabilities. The chapters in this volume serve as a foundation for monitoring, measuring, and modeling air pollution.

Book Air Pollution

  • ISBN : 1351988468
  • Pages : 826 pages

Download or read book Air Pollution written by Jeremy Colls and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 826 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A one stop, comprehensive textbook, covering the three essential components of air pollution science. The Third Edition has been updated with the latest developments, especially the inclusion of new information on the role of air pollutants in climate change. The authors give greater coverage to the developing economies around the world where air pollution problems are on the rise. The Third Edition continues to cover a wide range of air quality issues, retaining a quantitative perspective. Topics covered include - gaseous and particulate air pollutants, measurement techniques, meteorology and dispersion modelling, mobile sources, indoor air, effects on plants, materials, humans and animals. Moving away from classical toxic air pollutants, there is a chapter on climate change and another on the depletion of stratospheric ozone. A special feature of this new edition is the inclusion of a fresh chapter on air pollution mitigation by vegetation, mainly its role in maintaining a sustainable urban environment. Recommended for upper-level undergraduate and postgraduate courses specialising in air pollution, both for environmental scientists and engineers. The new material included in the Third Edition extends its use by practitioners in consultancies or local authorities.

Book WHO global air quality guidelines

Download or read book WHO global air quality guidelines written by Weltgesundheitsorganisation and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of these updated global guidelines is to offer health-based air quality guideline levels, expressed as long-term or short-term concentrations for six key air pollutants: PM2.5, PM10, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide. In addition, the guidelines provide interim targets to guide reduction efforts of these pollutants, as well as good practice statements for the management of certain types of PM (i.e., black carbon/elemental carbon, ultrafine particles, particles originating from sand and duststorms). These guidelines are not legally binding standards; however, they provide WHO Member States with an evidence-informed tool, which they can use to inform legislation and policy. Ultimately, the goal of these guidelines is to help reduce levels of air pollutants in order to decrease the enormous health burden resulting from the exposure to air pollution worldwide.

Book Determination of Air Quality

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gleb Mamantov
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1461586631
  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book Determination of Air Quality written by Gleb Mamantov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In arranging for this Symposium on the Determination of Air Quality, we attempted to present much more than analytical chemi cal information. We realized fully that much of the audience would be interested in that type of information, but we also believed strongly that these analytical chemists want and need to know the fate and significance of their products, i.e., their data. Accord ingly, the participants were drawn from numerous "disciplines" - administrators, medical researchers, engineers, systems analysts, and instrumental and chemical analysts. There was a corresponding diversity of subject matter within the formal presentations. The Symposium was conducted in three half-day sessions. The first of these addressed the general subject of what is being done now regarding the determination of air quality. This general sub ject touched upon present data storage and handling activities, surveillance networks, correlative work with health effects, and efforts to combine (or index) several measured parameters into a single understandable value. The second session dealt with recent developments in the analytical methodology of air quality. Resea~ch and review papers were presented. The final session addressed more avant garde topics, such as the determination of odors, the use of electron spectroscopy for air quality studies, and the important intersociety effort aimed at standardizing analytical procedures in the air quality area. The response to this symposium was gratifying. It strengthened our belief that topical symposia can go far to improve communication between people who are attacking a common problem, but from different directions.
