In a way that is impossible from street level, you can see the old neighborhoods of Montmartre and Montparnasse; iconic historical monuments like the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe or the Invalides; and modern Paris like La Défense or the new neighborhoods around the Bibliothèque Nationale. As a bonus, there is a portfolio of images of the gardens and buildings of Louis XIV's great palace, Versailles. Milstein brings his unique and unmatched aerial vistas of Paris to life--every angle, every moment, every season. This is sure to be treasured by tourists and Parisians alike.

Book excerpt: A trailblazer for women photographers in the South, North Carolina's Bayard Wootten (1875-1959) overcame economic hardship, gender discrimination, and the obscurity of a small-town upbringing to become the state's most significant early female photographer. This advocate of equality for women combined an artistic vision of photography with determination and a love of adventure to forge a distinguished career spanning half a century. Originally trained as an artist, Wootten worked in photography's pictorial tradition, emphasizing artistic effect in her images at a time when realistic and documentary photography increasingly dominated the medium. Traveling throughout North Carolina and surrounding states, she turned the artistry of her eye and lens on the people and places she encountered. Having opened a studio in her hometown of New Bern in 1905, Wootten moved to Chapel Hill in 1928, where her clients included the University of North Carolina. Between 1932 and 1941, she also provided photographs for six books--including Cabins in the Laurel, Old Homes and Gardens of North Carolina, and Charleston: Azaleas and Old Bricks--lectured extensively, and exhibited her photographs as far away as New York and Massachusetts. Light and Air features 190 illustrations, including 136 duotone reproductions of Wootten's photographs taken in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee--many of which have never before been published. Though she was an accomplished landscape and architectural photographer, some of Wootten's most notable images were the portraits she crafted of black and white Americans in the lower reaches of society, working people whom other photographers often ignored. These images are perhaps her most enduring legacy.

Book Nelli Palom ki

Download or read book Nelli Palom ki written by Estelle af Malmborg and published by Hatje Cantz Verlag. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young Finnish photographer Nelli Palomäki (born 1981) is a graduate of Helsinki's renowned Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture. In her work, she aims to recapture the lost magic that was once inherent in photography. Even 50 years ago, having one's photograph taken was a special event; people donned their Sunday best and gazed, unmoving and serious, into the camera. Palomäki's models likewise tend not to smile, looking steadfastly at us with the kind of openness and attention that could be said to characterize the work of their photographer. This volume gathers Palomäki's black-and-white portraits, mostly of children and young people. The photographer says she wonders what her models will look like ten years from now; her contemplative photographs provoke a like sense of wonder in the viewer.

Book Color Aerial Photography

Download or read book Color Aerial Photography written by Richard S. Driscoll and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shrubs such as antelope bitterbrush, big sagebrush, snowberry, and true mountainmohogany can be identified more consistently on large-scale (1:600-1:1,200) color infrared aerial photographs than on the same scale color aerial photographs. Indentification of relatively large forbs, including Fremont geranium and orange sneezeweed, is also easier on large scale color infrared. Neither film type appeared to give improved information regarding site delineation on smaller scale photographs. Other features of the range environment, including rodent disturbances, can best be identified on color infrared at photo scales up to 1:2,400. All of this depends on obtaining photogrpaphs at the right time of year in respect to phenology of the vegetation.
