Book Intercomparison of Tracer Gases Used for Air Infiltration Measurements

Download or read book Intercomparison of Tracer Gases Used for Air Infiltration Measurements written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A direct intercomparison has been made between common tracer gases used to measure air infiltration rates in buildings. The results indicate that air exchange rates measured using sulfur hexafluoride, SF6, are slightly larger than those measured using methane, CH4, or nitrous oxide, N2O. The ratio of air change rates measured using SF6 to air change rates measured concurrently using a lighter tracer gas was found to be 1.10 +- 0.10.

Book Air Infiltration

Download or read book Air Infiltration written by CM. Hunt and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews the state of the art in the measurement of ventilation and air infiltration. It considers tracer gas techniques and discusses some of the tracer gases used as well as some of the potential sources of error. It also discusses fan pressurization-evacuation procedures for measuring building tightness and compares fan and tracer measurements. It discusses the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) crack method. It also considers a number of factors influencing infiltration rates and finally reviews a few of the empirical equations that have been developed to correlate infiltration rate with wind velocity and inside-outside temperature difference.

Book Tracer Gas Measurement Systems Compared in a Multifamily Building

Download or read book Tracer Gas Measurement Systems Compared in a Multifamily Building written by DT. Harrje and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The more complex building poses additional challenges to air infiltration measurement, especially in the case of multiple zones and rooms. Today's technology has provided us with a number of measurement choices which include the constant concentration single-tracer gas system, multitracer gas systems using the mass spectrometer, and perfluorocarbon multitracer systems both passive and active. This paper compares simultaneous field measurements in a Princeton-area multifamily building using each of these tracer gas-based air infiltration systems. Personnel from Princeton University, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, and Brookhaven National Laboratory were involved in the air infiltration measurement studies. Air infiltration rates in the various zones in each building are compared as well as the ease of implementation of the various approaches in these comprehensive measurements. Sources of errors using the various techniques are discussed.

Book Measurements of Air Infiltration and Airtightness in Passive Solar Homes

Download or read book Measurements of Air Infiltration and Airtightness in Passive Solar Homes written by AK. Persily and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The airtightness of 82 passive solar homes located throughout the United States was studied using tracer gas measurements of air infiltration and pressurization testing. The air infiltration measurements employed the tracer gas decay technique in a low-cost mode employing air sample bags and off-site infiltration determination. The infiltration rates measured under natural conditions ranged from about 0.05 to almost 2 air changes per hour (ACH). The pressurization test results ranged from 1 to more than 30 ACH at 50 Pa, with an average of about 10 ACH. By comparing the pressurization measurements on these homes to measurements on other homes, the passive solar homes were found to be in general no tighter than other U.S. homes. The air infiltration and pressurization measurements of the Class B homes were compared using existing infiltration models and other empirical relations.

Book Design and Protocol for Monitoring Indoor Air Quality

Download or read book Design and Protocol for Monitoring Indoor Air Quality written by Niren Laxmichand Nagda and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 1989 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is derived from a symposium prompted by the growing concern for air quality in homes, offices and schools, and the need for better design of investigations about indoor air quality problems and solutions. Numerous chemical and physical factors influence the indoor concentrations of contaminants. The multiplicity of these factors makes the investigation design process complex. So, well-conceived designs and protocols form a crucial starting point for successful measurement programs. "Design" of a study relates to developing a general strategy or approach ; "protocols" refers to specific procedures to be followed in conducting a study. This document aims to provide information on designs and protocols used in different types of indoor air quality monitoring studies and to supply learning opportunities through shared experience

Book Air Infiltration and Interzonal Airflow Measurements in Research Houses

Download or read book Air Infiltration and Interzonal Airflow Measurements in Research Houses written by Niron Laxmichand Nagda and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four different but complementary methods were used to obtain detailed information on air infiltration and interzonal airflow rates in two bilevel research houses: the tracer gas dilution method, single tracer constant concentration, passive perfluorocarbon tracers (constant release), and constant release of multiple halocarbon tracers with real-time analysis. The study included measurements of seasonal variations and differences between the houses, one of which was retrofitted in a previous EPRI study to reduce the air leakage area.

Book Solar Energy Applications to Buildings and Solar Radiation Data

Download or read book Solar Energy Applications to Buildings and Solar Radiation Data written by T.C. Steemers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a valuable overview of the Commission's current activities in research on solar radiation data and in the development of solar energy applications in buildings. It contains the proceedings of the second contractors' co ordination meeting in the third four year R+D programme (1985-88) in these two fields, which was held in Brussels on 1 and 2 OCtober 1987. The first meeting was held on 13 and 14 November 1986. (') The research contractors' reports presented in this book give a full account of activities at an important stage in the programme where most projects have completed their preparatory stages and productive research is now fully underway. A feature of the reports is the pattern they illustrate of working groups in which practically all of the Member states are represented, co operating in the attainment of common goals within a co ordinated European programme. The meeting was attended by 60 participants and extended over two days. Presentations were made by the contractors on the objectives of their projects, progress made in the research, and future work plans and priorities. Each presentation was followed by a short d- cussion. The meeting was also important in improving communications between the research groups, exposing opportunities for co operation and collaboration, and monitoring progress. Among key achievements reported in the area 'Solar Radiation Data' is the implementation of a network of measuring stations at eight proto typical sites throughout Europe.
