Book Air Flow Management in Raised Floor Data Centers

Download or read book Air Flow Management in Raised Floor Data Centers written by Vaibhav K. Arghode and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-23 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Brief discuss primarily two aspects of air flow management in raised floor data centers. Firstly, cooling air delivery through perforated tiles will be examined and influence of the tile geometry on flow field development and hot air entrainment above perforated tiles will be discussed. Secondly, the use of cold aisle containment to physically separate hot and cold regions, and minimize hot and cold air mixing will be presented. Both experimental investigations and computational efforts are discussed and development of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based models for simulating air flow in data centers is included. In addition, metrology tools for facility scale air velocity and temperature measurement, and air flow rate measurement through perforated floor tiles and server racks are examined and the authors present thermodynamics-based models to gauge the effectiveness and importance of air flow management schemes in data centers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: to increase the use of direct contact processes, the National Science Foundation sup ported a workshop on direct contact heat transfer at the Solar Energy Research Insti tute in the summer of 1985. We served as organizers for this workshop, which em phasized an area of thermal engineering that, in our opinion, has great promise for the future, but has not yet reached the point of wide-spread commercial application. Hence, a summary of the state of knowledge at this point is timely. The workshop had a dual objective: 1. To summarize the current state of knowledge in such a form that industrial practi tioners can make use of the available information. 2. To indicate the research and development needed to advance the state-of-the-art, indicating not only what kind of research is needed, but also the industrial poten tial that could be realized if the information to be obtained through the proposed research activities were available.

Book Demonstration of Adiabatic Cooling to Improve the Performance of Air cooled Heat Exchangers

Download or read book Demonstration of Adiabatic Cooling to Improve the Performance of Air cooled Heat Exchangers written by Alan M. Rubin and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A demonstration of improved heat exchanger performance by adiabatically cooling the inlet air to an air-cooled heat exchanger was performed on a condenser that had a design heat rejection rate of 58 million Btu/hr. Pneumatic nozzles were used to inject atomized water into the inlet air stream. Mean droplet diameters ranged from 16 to 28 microns for all of the tests. Results of these experiments comparing conventional and adiabatic cooling show that adiabatic cooling does improve heat transfer performance in accordance with expectations. The operation of the system was simple and reliable. Visual observations of the heat exchanger showed that finned surfaces remained dry even when enough water was added to saturate the inlet air. With the use of efficient atomizers, adiabatic cooling improves efficiency at a steam-electric power plant without increasing dry cooling tower size, and thereby avoids the need to reduce plant output during hot weather.

Book Cooling Towers

Download or read book Cooling Towers written by G. B. Hill and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cooling Towers: Principles and Practice, Third Edition, aims to provide the reader with a better understanding of the theory and practice, so that installations are correctly designed and operated. As with all branches of engineering, new technology calls for a level of technical knowledge which becomes progressively higher; this new edition seeks to ensure that the principles and practice of cooling towers are set against a background of up-to-date technology. The book is organized into three sections. Section A on cooling tower practice covers topics such as the design and operation of cooling towers; types of cooling tower; cooling tower components and construction materials; practical aspects of tower selection; industrial applications; and water quality and treatment. Section B is devoted to cooling tower theory and calculations. These include psychrometry; heat transfer theory and calculations; calculations when selecting tower size for a given duty; and the use of charts for calculation of cooling tower duties. Section C on data and tables explains the basis of the SI system of units and includes meteorological tables and data as well as data on specific heat capacity of some common substances.
