This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decades of research have demonstrated that the parent-child dyad and the environment of the familyâ€"which includes all primary caregiversâ€"are at the foundation of children's well- being and healthy development. From birth, children are learning and rely on parents and the other caregivers in their lives to protect and care for them. The impact of parents may never be greater than during the earliest years of life, when a child's brain is rapidly developing and when nearly all of her or his experiences are created and shaped by parents and the family environment. Parents help children build and refine their knowledge and skills, charting a trajectory for their health and well-being during childhood and beyond. The experience of parenting also impacts parents themselves. For instance, parenting can enrich and give focus to parents' lives; generate stress or calm; and create any number of emotions, including feelings of happiness, sadness, fulfillment, and anger. Parenting of young children today takes place in the context of significant ongoing developments. These include: a rapidly growing body of science on early childhood, increases in funding for programs and services for families, changing demographics of the U.S. population, and greater diversity of family structure. Additionally, parenting is increasingly being shaped by technology and increased access to information about parenting. Parenting Matters identifies parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with positive developmental outcomes in children ages 0-8; universal/preventive and targeted strategies used in a variety of settings that have been effective with parents of young children and that support the identified knowledge, attitudes, and practices; and barriers to and facilitators for parents' use of practices that lead to healthy child outcomes as well as their participation in effective programs and services. This report makes recommendations directed at an array of stakeholders, for promoting the wide-scale adoption of effective programs and services for parents and on areas that warrant further research to inform policy and practice. It is meant to serve as a roadmap for the future of parenting policy, research, and practice in the United States.

Book excerpt: One fine day I was sincerely struggling to explain the term "solidarity" to my child, and it occurred to me to ask OpenAi's newest publicly available artificial intelligence chatbot, ChatGPT how I may explain the concept to a 3-year old boy. The results opened my eyes and I started wondering how generative AI might help me in other aspects of parenting as well. What followed was months of shamelessly prompting ChatGPT at their visual art AI, Dall-E for questions ranging from the most basic things to building connections that I scarcely believed. So I put together some of the work I have been doing, and my hope is that is raises some questions for yourself as you consider how these powerful tools might add something to your toolbelt. What I hope to share with you in this book is two-fold. Six short chapters where I will try and demonstrate some of the moments that helped me as a father, and how I imagine these tools might help us even more as they develop and improve. I will share three blog posts I wrote while in the throes of early parenthood. These posts are titled "Story Time" for clarity and they appear every two chapters. The Contents of the Book: Introduction Story Time #1: I didn't want to love anything this much Chapter 1: What in the hell does AI have to do with parenting? Book AI Not the Human Touch

Download or read book AI Not the Human Touch written by KHRITISH SWARGIARY and published by GOOGLE. This book was released on 2024-06-01 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to "AI: Not the Human Touch". This book explores the evolving intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and education, focusing on how AI can enhance educational practices while acknowledging the enduring importance of human educators. In recent years, AI has become a transformative force in various sectors, including education. It promises to revolutionize classrooms by offering personalized learning experiences, automating administrative tasks, and providing valuable insights into student performance. However, amidst these advancements, there arises a critical question: can AI truly replace the irreplaceable— the human touch in education? The purpose of this book is not to pit AI against human educators but to delve into the complementary roles they can play. AI has undeniable strengths in processing data, delivering personalized content, and facilitating efficient administrative tasks. Yet, it lacks the emotional intelligence, empathy, and moral guidance that human teachers naturally provide. Teachers are not just instructors but mentors, motivators, and role models who nurture students' intellectual and emotional growth. Through insightful chapters, we explore AI's capabilities and limitations in education. From enhancing administrative efficiency to fostering collaborative learning environments, AI offers tremendous potential. Concurrently, we examine the essential roles of human educators—interpreting student needs, building connections, and imparting values—that cannot be replicated by technology alone.

Book Expecting Better

Book excerpt: “Emily Oster is the non-judgmental girlfriend holding our hand and guiding us through pregnancy and motherhood. She has done the work to get us the hard facts in a soft, understandable way.” —Amy Schumer What to Expect When You're Expecting meets Freakonomics: an award-winning economist and author of Cribsheet, The Family Firm, and The Unexpected disproves standard recommendations about pregnancy to empower women while they're expecting. Pregnancy—unquestionably one of the most profound, meaningful experiences of adulthood—can reduce otherwise intelligent women to, well, babies. Pregnant women are told to avoid cold cuts, sushi, alcohol, and coffee without ever being told why these are forbidden. Rules for prenatal testing are similarly unexplained. Moms-to-be desperately want a resource that empowers them to make their own right choices. When award-winning economist Emily Oster was a mom-to-be herself, she evaluated the data behind the accepted rules of pregnancy, and discovered that most are often misguided and some are just flat-out wrong. Debunking myths and explaining everything from the real effects of caffeine to the surprising dangers of gardening, Expecting Better is the book for every pregnant woman who wants to enjoy a healthy and relaxed pregnancy—and the occasional glass of wine.

Book Online Family Dispute Resolution

Download or read book Online Family Dispute Resolution written by Elisabeth Wilson-Evered and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together the expertise of two authors involved in initiating the development of Online Family Dispute Resolution (OFDR), while also examining the unique Australian system. The family arena generally comprises property or child-related disputes arising between parents, whether married or not, and whether the parties have lived together or not. A special feature of Australia’s OFDR system is that it deals with children’s issues rather than focusing on property distribution. The book first discusses how technological innovations have transformed dispute resolution services to families. It explores the need for OFDR and how such systems can potentially be implemented. In turn, the coverage shifts to screening tools used prior to a Family Dispute Resolution session to ensure that online systems are appropriate for the case under dispute and the people involved. Readers will then learn about the necessary training required – for administrators, practitioners and clients alike - for OFDR to be successful. In addition, the book offers a comprehensive evaluation of the system and reflects on the lessons learned to date. In closing, it suggests ways in which OFDR could be further developed and applied to family disputes around the world.

The book also includes an introductory chapter which describes the study and the sample; a conceptual chapter which places the empirical chapters in theoretical context in sociological study of religious families; and a concluding chapter which describes how the editors and authors developed respect and admiration for religious cultures other than their own. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Marriage and Family Review.

Book Cribsheet

Download or read book Cribsheet written by Emily Oster and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of Expecting Better and The Family Firm, an economist's guide to the early years of parenting. “Both refreshing and useful. With so many parenting theories driving us all a bit batty, this is the type of book that we need to help calm things down.” —LA Times “The book is jampacked with information, but it’s also a delightful read because Oster is such a good writer.” —NPR With Expecting Better, award-winning economist Emily Oster spotted a need in the pregnancy market for advice that gave women the information they needed to make the best decision for their own pregnancies. By digging into the data, Oster found that much of the conventional pregnancy wisdom was wrong. In Cribsheet, she now tackles an even greater challenge: decision-making in the early years of parenting. As any new parent knows, there is an abundance of often-conflicting advice hurled at you from doctors, family, friends, and strangers on the internet. From the earliest days, parents get the message that they must make certain choices around feeding, sleep, and schedule or all will be lost. There's a rule—or three—for everything. But the benefits of these choices can be overstated, and the trade-offs can be profound. How do you make your own best decision? Armed with the data, Oster finds that the conventional wisdom doesn't always hold up. She debunks myths around breastfeeding (not a panacea), sleep training (not so bad!), potty training (wait until they're ready or possibly bribe with M&Ms), language acquisition (early talkers aren't necessarily geniuses), and many other topics. She also shows parents how to think through freighted questions like if and how to go back to work, how to think about toddler discipline, and how to have a relationship and parent at the same time. Economics is the science of decision-making, and Cribsheet is a thinking parent's guide to the chaos and frequent misinformation of the early years. Emily Oster is a trained expert—and mom of two—who can empower us to make better, less fraught decisions—and stay sane in the years before preschool.
