Book Research and Development in Intelligent Systems XXIV

Download or read book Research and Development in Intelligent Systems XXIV written by Max Bramer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-03 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An agent in a multi-agent system (MAS) has to generate plans for its individual goal, but these plans may con?ict with those that are already being scheduled or executed by other agents. It must also be able to complete its planning and resolution of these con?icts within a reasonable time to have an acceptable quality plan. Although we adopt hierarchical planning (HP, for example, see [7, 12]) using the decision-theoretic planning (DTP) approach [6] for ef?cient planning, it is not trivial to apply HPO to MAS. In HP, appropriate (abstract) plans are selected level by level to maximize the utility U (p), where where p is the expected ?nal plan comprising a sequence of primitive actions. However, in the MAS context, con?icts between agents affect the ef?ciency and quality of resulting plans. When a con?ict is found at lower levels, an additional sophisticated process for avoiding it (con?ict resolution) must be invoked and some extra actions (such as waiting for synchronization and detouring) may have to be added to the plan. The con?ict resolution process may become costly or fail. Even a single con?ict, if it is dif?cult to resolve, will result in a plan with considerably lower quality than it otherwise would have. As a result, in multi-agent systems, the second- or third-best plans may result in better overall performance.

Book excerpt: Artificial intelligence (AI) is "the study and design of intelligent agents", where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximise its chances of success. In this book, the authors present recent advances in the study of artificial intelligence with topics that include a Twitter specific lexicon for sentiment analysis; hybrid unsupervised-supervised artificial neural networks for modelling activated sludge wastewater treatment plants; fast and visible trajectory planning in 3D urban environments based on local point clouds data; and "smart brakes" -- the neuro-genetic optimisation of brake actuation pressure.

Book Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence written by Luis Carlos Rabelo Mendizabal and published by . This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After decades of basic research and more promises than impressive applications, artificial intelligence (AI) is starting to deliver benefits. A convergence of advances is motivating this new surge of AI development and applications. Computer capability as it has evolved from high throughput and high performance computing systems is increasing. AI models and operations research adaptations are becoming more mature, and the world is breeding big data not only from the web and social media but also from the Internet of Things. Organizations around the world have been realizing that there are substantial performance gains and increases in productivity for the use of AI and predictive analytics techniques. Their use is bringing a new era of breakthrough innovation and opportunities. This book, compiles research insights and applications in diverse areas such as manufacturing, supply chain management, pricing, autonomous vehicles, healthcare, ecommerce, and aeronautics. Using classical and advanced tools in AI such as deep learning, particle swarm optimization, support vector machines and genetic programming among others. This is a very distinctive book which discusses important applications using a variety of paradigms from AI and outlines some of the research to be performed. The work supersedes similar books that do not cover as diversified a set of sophisticated applications. The authors present a comprehensive and articulated view of recent developments, identifies the applications gap by quoting from the experience of experts, and details suggested research areas. Artificial Intelligence: Advances in Research and Applications guides the reader through an intuitive understanding of the methodologies and tools for building and modeling intelligent systems. The book's coverage is broad, starting with clustering techniques with unsupervised ensemble learning, where the optimal combination strategy of individual partitions is robust in comparison to the selection of an algorithmic clustering pool. This is followed by a case in a parallel-distributed simulator using deep learning for its configuration. Chapter Three presents a case for autonomous vehicles. Chapter Four discusses the novel use of genetic algorithms with support vector machines. Chapters Five through Thirteen focus on the applications. The book discusses how the use of AI can allow for productivity development and other benefits not just for businesses, but also for economies. Finally, you can find an interesting investigation of the transhuman dimension of AI.

Book AI 2009 Advances in Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book AI 2009 Advances in Artificial Intelligence written by Ann Nicholson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-11-09 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are pleased to present this LNCS volume, the Proceedings of the 22nd A- tralasianJointConferenceonArti?cialIntelligence(AI2009),heldinMelbourne, Australia, December 1–4,2009.This long established annual regionalconference is a forum both for the presentation of researchadvances in arti?cial intelligence and for scienti?c interchange amongst researchers and practitioners in the ?eld of arti?cial intelligence. Conference attendees were also able to enjoy AI 2009 being co-located with the Australasian Data Mining Conference (AusDM 2009) and the 4th Australian Conference on Arti?cial Life (ACAL 2009). This year AI 2009 received 174 submissions, from authors of 30 di?erent countries. After an extensive peer review process where each submitted paper was rigorously reviewed by at least 2 (and in most cases 3) independent revi- ers, the best 68 papers were selected by the senior Program Committee for oral presentation at the conference and included in this volume, resulting in an - ceptance rate of 39%. The papers included in this volume cover a wide range of topics in arti?cial intelligence: from machine learning to natural language s- tems, from knowledge representation to soft computing, from theoretical issues to real-world applications. AI 2009 also included 11 tutorials, available through the First Australian Computational Intelligence Summer School (ACISS 2009). These tutorials – some introductory, some advanced – covered a wide range of research topics within arti?cial intelligence, including data mining, games, evolutionary c- putation, swarm optimization, intelligent agents, Bayesian and belief networks.
