This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper aims to support the implementation of the strategic development plans of Jordan by analyzing the role of agriculture and farmers in the Jordanian economy, the role that productivity and structural change can play for fostering agricultural growth, and the role agro-processing may play in Jordan’s economic development. We argue that the development of the agro-processing sector often has stronger backward and forward linkages with the agricultural sector than other sectors and, thus, plays an important role for rural transformation.

This book was released on 2018-06-27 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Jordan, water — an essential factor of economic growth and social development — is scarce. The imbalance between the supply and demand of this precious resource is evidently at the cost of over-abstracted groundwater. The agriculture and food industry is the main water consumer — irrigation alone contributes to about 60 percent of the total water usage in the country. Huge investments have been made to mitigate this imbalance as much as possible and others are in the pipeline or are being planned. Significant improvements are also required from the water demand side in order to move towards a sustainable equilibrium. The main objective of this report is to both indicate ways for Jordan to move away from all unsustainable agricultural and food activities (high water consumers and water inefficient), and suggest paths toward more water efficient and productive solutions.

Book COVID 19 Rapid food security and agrifood sector country assessment for Jordan

Download or read book COVID 19 Rapid food security and agrifood sector country assessment for Jordan written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Governments worldwide are implementing an extensive range of prevention and mitigation measures to control the spread of COVID-19 and limit its health, economic and social consequences. COVID-19 policy actions could have significant negative impacts across the food system, mainly if the policies are uncoordinated and built on limited evidence. In Jordan, the COVID-19 pandemic is continuing to cause direct harm to health, livelihoods, to people living standard and overall national economies. This articulates the importance of formulating long, medium and short-term policies to deal with pandemic priorities and alleviate COVID-19 and increase development investments in the agriculture sector as one of the most critical sectors in such these conditions. This study determines the short-term impact of COVID-19 on agriculture and food supply and identifies the positive impact of government measures taken across the country of Jordan. This rapid assessment utilized primary data and existing data related to the agriculture-food systems sector to understand the impact of the COVID-19 crisis and produced recommendations and policy actions. The assessment's general objective is to identify the effects of COVID-19 on Agri-food systems actors and recommend policies to alleviate the negative impact. It explores the range of policies, strategies and actions, in the short- and medium/long-term in the broader agriculture/food systems sector. Recommendations and suggested policies (10 policies) are formed depending on the results of the field surveys (farmers, exporters and supply chain actors survey), the results of secondary data analysis, IMF targeted policies (9 pillars), Jordan COVID-19 and Food Security Rapid Assessment-Policy

Book Leadership in Agriculture

Download or read book Leadership in Agriculture written by John Patrick Jordan and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world facing chronic and increasing shortages in food crops and natural resources, visionary leadership in agriculture becomes more and more critical for building and maintaining a sustainable future. It is of paramount importance that the dynamic and challenging evolution in agriculture over the last century and a half be met today with imaginative leadership in virtually all aspects of activities and organizations involved. Leadership in Agriculture: Case Studies for a New Generation focuses on key characteristics and elements of leadership. Using case studies from research, industry, education, administration, and extension services, the authors present real-world circumstances ranging from natural disasters to major restructuring that demanded problem solving, new initiatives, consensus, and organizational commitment. Drawing on their own experiences and covering topics as diverse as closing facilities, mounting a national research initiative, reinventing a major corporation, and dealing with invasive termites, the studies contain examples of both good and bad outcomes and tie back to the stated leadership principles and qualities. Book The Archaeology of Agro pastoralist Economies in Jordan

Download or read book The Archaeology of Agro pastoralist Economies in Jordan written by Robin M. Brown and published by American Society of Overseas Research. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ramsey and Mueller: Plant remains from Tall al'Umayri broadly provide direct evidence for patterns of local consumption and agricultural production from Bronze Age to Early Iron Age contexts. More specifically a cache of wild or two-rowed barley was recovered from a clearly stratified domestic context, which was likely stored for either malting or fodder. This kind of evidence is vital to aid in identifying other aspects (culture, economic exchange and natural environment) of the emerging complex societies that subsequently occupied the region. Brown and Rielly: Middle and Late Islamic faunal collections from Karak castle in Jordan are described and examined in detail and compared with other contemporary collections from southern Jordan with results indicating regional trends in animal consumption that are linked to culture, trade, and subsistence activities. Farahani et al.: This article demonstrates that the collection and analysis of carefully provenienced samples of archaeological plant remains from a variety of archaeological contexts at Kh. al-Mudayna al-'Aliya improves our understanding of how economically important crops were stored, distributed, and processed in early Iron Age Levantine settlements in Jordan. The article contributes to archaeological and paleoethnobotanical studies of agriculture, animal husbandry, and crop storage in southwest Asia more broadly.
