Book Directory of Federal State Market News Reports Classic Reprint

Download or read book Directory of Federal State Market News Reports Classic Reprint written by U. S. Agricultural Marketing Service and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Directory of Federal-State Market News Reports The Agricultural Marketing Service of the u.s. Department of Agriculture cooperates with many of the State Departments of Agriculture in gathering and distributing market news reports on supply, demand, prices, and movement of agricultural products. Through a nationwide network of 135 field offices, trading is reported at major terminal markets as well as in important production and shipping areas. For rapid exchange of information, most of the market news offices are connected by a network of approximately miles of leased teletypewriter lines. Market reports are issued on all major farm commodities, including cotton, cottonseed, cotton linters, dairy and poultry products, fruits and vegetables, peanuts, pecans, honey, grain and related products, feed molasses, livestock, meats, wool, tobacco, and naval stores. Reports are prepared in the field offices under the direction of the ams commodity divisions in Washington. Most field offices cover only the products assigned to the Division of which they are a part. They report largely on the commodities in their own markets, although they may include a brief summary describing trading conditions, prices, and trends at a few other markets that are significant to those patronizing the local market. More than radio stations and 160 television stations broadcast market news regularly. Market news also reaches the public by newspapers, farm and trade papers, telephone, telegraph, and by direct mail. The pages that follow list the federal-state market news reports and the issuing offices for them. The reports are sent free on request, when they are available by mail. If you wish to see sample copies of any of the reports, or if you wish to be added to the mailing list to receive copies regularly, address your request to the office issuing the report. Or you may address your request to the appropriate commodity division (from the list below) of the Agricultural Marketing Service, u.s. Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. 20250. Book Technology and Social Inclusion

Download or read book Technology and Social Inclusion written by Mark Warschauer and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2004-09-17 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the discussion about new technologies and social equality has focused on the oversimplified notion of a "digital divide." Technology and Social Inclusion moves beyond the limited view of haves and have-nots to analyze the different forms of access to information and communication technologies. Drawing on theory from political science, economics, sociology, psychology, communications, education, and linguistics, the book examines the ways in which differing access to technology contributes to social and economic stratification or inclusion. The book takes a global perspective, presenting case studies from developed and developing countries, including Brazil, China, Egypt, India, and the United States. A central premise is that, in today's society, the ability to access, adapt, and create knowledge using information and communication technologies is critical to social inclusion. This focus on social inclusion shifts the discussion of the "digital divide" from gaps to be overcome by providing equipment to social development challenges to be addressed through the effective integration of technology into communities, institutions, and societies. What is most important is not so much the physical availability of computers and the Internet but rather people's ability to make use of those technologies to engage in meaningful social practices.

Book Pioneers Settlers Aliens Exiles

Download or read book Pioneers Settlers Aliens Exiles written by J. L. Fisher and published by ANU E Press. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What did the future hold for Rhodesia's white population at the end of a bloody armed conflict fought against settler colonialism? Would there be a place for them in newly independent Zimbabwe? PIONEERS, SETTLERS, ALIENS, EXILES sets out the terms offered by Robert Mugabe in 1980 to whites who opted to stay in the country they thought of as their home. The book traces over the next two decades their changing relationshipwith the country when the post-colonial government revised its symbolic and geographical landscape and reworked codes of membership. Particular attention is paid to colonial memories and white interpellation in the official account of the nation's rebirth and indigene discourses, in view of which their attachment to the place shifted and weakened. As the book describes the whites' trajectory from privileged citizens to persons of disputed membership and contested belonging, it provides valuable background information with regard to the land and governance crises that engulfed Zimbabwe at the start of the twenty-first century.

Book Public Broadcasting in Africa Series Uganda

Download or read book Public Broadcasting in Africa Series Uganda written by W. Lugalambi and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2010-12-29 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ugandas broadcast media landscape has witnessed tremendous growth in recent years. While the public broadcaster remains the dominant national player in terms of reach in both radio and television, commercial broadcasters have introduced a substantial level of diversity in the industry. Public broadcasting faces serious competition from the numerous private and independent broadcasters, especially in and around the capital Kampala and major urban centres. In fact, the private/commercial sector clearly dominates the industry in most respects, notably productivity and profitability. The public broadcaster, which enjoys wider geographical coverage, faces the challenge of trying to fulfil a broad mandate with little funding. This makes it difficult for UBC to compete with the more nimble operators in the commercial/private sector. Overall, there appears to be a healthy degree of pluralism and diversity in terms of ownership.

Download or read book ON OFF written by Sarah Genner and published by vdf Hochschulverlag AG. This book was released on 2017-01-03 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you constantly online? Or are you offline sometimes? Are you offline if you are not interacting with your connected devices? Or if no data about you is being collected? Do you check Instagram and Twitter during dinner? Do you turn off your smartphone at night? Do you check work emails on vacation? Do you feel you have to disconnect regularly – to relax, to concentrate, or to protect your privacy? Or do you feel more relaxed when constantly connected because your loved ones, a work emergency, or the news are always at your fingertips? Why are some people – even within networked societies – still completely offline given the tremendous opportunities of the Internet? And what does it even mean to be online or offline in the age of hyper-connectivity? In ON/OFF, Sarah Genner assesses the risks and rewards of the anytime-anywhere Internet, focusing on digital divides, social relationships, physical and mental health, and data privacy. She discusses implications for a variety of decision-makers in the world of work, in education, in families, and in politics. The author deconstructs the online/offline dichotomy and suggests the ON/OFF scale as a new theoretical framework for researchers and practitioners.
