Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Farming for Our Future examines the policies and legal reforms necessary to accelerate the adoption of practices that can make agriculture in the United States climate-neutral or better. These proven practices will also make our food system more resilient to the impacts of climate change. Agriculture's contribution to climate change is substantial--much more so than official figures suggest--and we will not be able to achieve our overall mitigation goals unless agricultural emissions sharply decline. Fortunately, farms and ranches can be a major part of the climate solution, while protecting biodiversity, strengthening rural communities, and improving the lives of the workers who cultivate our crops and rear our animals. The importance of agricultural climate solutions can not be underestimated; it is a critical element both in ensuring our food security and limiting climate change. This book provides essential solutions to address the greatest crises of our time.

Book Agricultural Industries in India

Download or read book Agricultural Industries in India written by Seedick R. Sayani and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Agricultural Industries in India Although myself not an agriculturist, I fully realise that the whole industrial economy of India must ultimately rest on a highly developed system of agriculture and I have, therefore, much pleasure in writing these few lines by way of introduction to the essays comprising this little book. Mr.S. E. Sayani, I think, has given valuable information regarding the present state and future possibilities of the principal cultivated crops of India. The ryot is sometimes ignorantly blamed for not adopting modern methods. But experience has shown that generally speaking, he is not unwilling to change his traditional methods in favour of new ones of proved efficacy. It is not his fault if he does not use a plough which is too heavy for the bullocks in his part of the country, or delicate machinery which cannot be cheaply repaired by the village carpenter. Individually,, too, he has not enough capital to invest in costly machines. In this connection, I may take this opportunity of expressing my strong belief in the value of the cooperative movement, represented by the Co-operative Credit Societies that have been started in different parts of the country. Book The Political Economy of Agricultural Price Distortions

Download or read book The Political Economy of Agricultural Price Distortions written by Kym Anderson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-08-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite numerous policy reforms since the 1980s, farm product prices remain heavily distorted in both high-income and developing countries. This book seeks to improve our understanding of why societies adopted these policies, and why some but not other countries have undertaken reforms. Drawing on recent developments in political economy theories and in the generation of empirical measures of the extent of price distortions, the present volume provides both analytical narratives of the historical origins of agricultural protectionism in various parts of the world and a set of political econometric analyses aimed at explaining the patterns of distortions that have emerged over the past five decades. These new studies shed much light on the forces affecting incentives and those facing farmers in the course of national and global economic and political development. They also show how those distortions might change in the future.
