Book Transforming Agricultural Education for a Changing World

Download or read book Transforming Agricultural Education for a Changing World written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-11-16 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the next ten years, colleges of agriculture will be challenged to transform their role in higher education and their relationship to the evolving global food and agricultural enterprise. If successful, agriculture colleges will emerge as an important venue for scholars and stakeholders to address some of the most complex and urgent problems facing society. Such a transformation could reestablish and sustain the historical position of the college of agriculture as a cornerstone institution in academe, but for that to occur, a rapid and concerted effort by our higher education system is needed to shape their academic focus around the reality of issues that define the world's systems of food and agriculture and to refashion the way in which they foster knowledge of those complex systems in their students. Although there is no single approach to transforming agricultural education, a commitment to change is imperative.

Book Agricultural Education for Teachers

Download or read book Agricultural Education for Teachers written by Garland Armor Bricker and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Agricultural Education for Teachers The March winds have passed in agricultural education. The sudden sallies of transient flurries with their bluster are now rapidly giving way to the quieter days of summer. A more sober purpose is vitalizing and systematizing the work of agricultural teaching, and with each passing year less emphasis is being placed on exploitive methods. Prejudice, inertia, and misgivings are everywhere gradually yielding place to the new rural education. Country communities are demanding that their schools educate in terms of rural life; normal schools are rapidly instituting and perfecting departments for the training of rural teachers; and the colleges are offering courses in rural leadership, and in the teaching of agriculture, home economics, and farm manual training. Tens of thousands of teachers have suddenly become conscious of the new demands that are being made on them. Not all may take advantage of the facilities offered by the higher institutions of learning, while many who take brief courses in summer sessions feel the need of keeping in constant touch with the new ideas in agricultural education along its fundamental lines of development. Book The Farm Press Reform and Rural Change 1895 1920

Download or read book The Farm Press Reform and Rural Change 1895 1920 written by John J. Fry and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-04-27 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project contributes to our understanding of rural Midwesterners and farm newspapers at the turn of the century. While cultural historians have mainly focused on readers in town and cities, it examines Midwestern farmers. It also contributes to the "new rural history" by exploring the ideas of Hal Barron and others that country people selectively adapted the advice given to them by reformers. Finally, it furthers our understanding of American farm newspapers themselves and offers suggestions on how to use them as sources.
