Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin films of conducting materials, such as metals, alloys and semiconductors are currently in use in many areas of science and technology, particularly in modern integrated circuit microelectronics that require high quality thin films for the manufacture of connection layers, resistors and ohmic contacts. These conducting films are also important for fundamental investigations in physics, radio-physics and physical chemistry. Physical Properties of Thin Metal Films provides a clear presentation of the complex physical properties particular to thin conducting films and includes the necessary theory, confirming experiments and applications. The volume will be an invaluable reference for graduates, engineers and scientists working in the electronics industry and fields of pure and applied science.

Book Aging in Thin Metallic Films

Download or read book Aging in Thin Metallic Films written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low magnetostriction NiFe and NiFe based ternary films 220A and 340A thick were prepared by thermal evaporation and bias sputtering. A few evaporated films were sputter etched. The films were aged in air with a magnetic bias in the plane of the film and perpendicular or parallel to the easy axis. Changes in uniaxial anisotropy field, coercive force and magnetostriction were measured as a function of time at temperatures of 100 C to 225 C. Films aged below 125 C in easy axis fields had an activation energy of 0.75ev in the case of evaporated NiFe while no change was observed in the case of sputtered or sputter etched NiFe or for a ternary Ni-Fe-Au. All films responded to temperatures above 125 C with activation energies of 1.3 to 2.4 ev. The rate of response was 50 to 1000 times greater in evaporated NiFe than in the other films. All films stored at 150 C in a hard axis field showed a large decrease in anisotropy field. The rate of change was dependent on deposition conditions and annealing temperature. Sputter etching was capable of reorienting the anisotropy axis. (Author).

Book Chemisorption And Reactions On Metallic Films V2

Download or read book Chemisorption And Reactions On Metallic Films V2 written by J Anderson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemisorption and Reactions on Metallic Films, Volume 2 is a four-chapter text that describes the role of evaporated metal films in advancing the understanding of the metal-gas interface chemistry and in understanding of adsorption and catalysis at metal surfaces. This volume first describes film structure and properties, particularly of random polycrystalline films, as well as the concepts of the adsorption and kinetic phenomena. The topic is followed by an overview of the main classes of catalytic reactions that have been studied over evaporated metal film catalysts. A chapter explores the preparation, characterization, structure, and surface properties of alloy films. The theory of the oxidation of metals and the advantages and disadvantages of using thin metal films in oxidation work are considered in the concluding chapter, along with a brief discussion on their use in kinetic and mechanistic studies. Research scientists and graduate students who are interested in the fundamentals of adsorption and catalysis will find this volume invaluable.

Download or read book Physics of Thin Films written by Maurice H. Francombe and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physics of Thin Films: Advances in Research and Development, Volume 6 reviews the rapid progress that has been made in research and development concerning the physics of thin films, with emphasis on metallic films. Topics covered include anodic oxide films, thin metal films and wires, and multilayer magnetic films. This volume is comprised of five chapters and begins with a discussion on the dielectric properties and the technique of plasma anodization which are relevant to the applications of anodic oxide films in electronic devices. Conduction, polarization, and dielectric breakdown effects are also considered. The next chapter examines studies on size-dependent electrical conduction in thin metal films and wires, paying particular attention to both classical and quantum size effects and some of the anisotropic characteristics of epitaxial metal films. The reader is then introduced to the optical properties of metal films and interactions in multilayer magnetic films. This text concludes with a chapter that looks at diffusion in metallic films and presents experimental results for phase-forming systems, miscible systems, and lateral diffusion. This monograph will be of value to students and practitioners of physics, especially those interested in thin films.
