Book excerpt: An unforgettable look at an obscure part of the deep south just before the dawning of the Civil Rights movement and the turbulent 1960s would forever change it forever. A unique blend of humor, pathos, and bitter reality throws a harsh and revealing light on this this strange time and the people who were a part of it. Examine a place where the past is never past, and history hangs over the hot dirt roads and swamps like a morning mist. Examine a now forgotten world where men could die over a load of wet cotton, a cock fight, a fence line, a missing hog, or a romantic promise not kept. A place where the past lies like a rattlesnake under a bush waiting to strike. A world where little boys had hookworms and old black men sold Bolita. A world where a dream book could tell the future and a root doctor could cure an illness or fix a romance gone bad. It is a strange and mysterious world, full of fear and superstitions, strange people and strange customs. It is a world where black magic and old time religion go hand in hand. A world of tobacco fields and outhouses, pulpwood and moonshine stills, juke joints and whore houses. In the fall of 1959, a small group of frightened young high school boys gather in the late afternoon twilight to become a part of their local chapter of the Future Farmers of America. However, this was to be much more than a simple initiation. This was to become more than just one more school function. This night would change all their lives as they have to decide what price was too much to pay for being one of The Ag Boys.

Book A G Stromberg

    Book Details:
  • Author : Armin G. Stromberg
  • Publisher : World Scientific
  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 1848166753
  • Pages : 376 pages

Download or read book A G Stromberg written by Armin G. Stromberg and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Armin G Stromberg was arguably one of the founding fathers of the technique of stripping voltammetry frequently used in chemical analysis, yet he is virtually unheard of in Western Scientific circles. He was a brilliant scientist, but due to his German ancestry, he was interred in one of the NKVD GULAG camps at the outbreak of the second world war. This semi-biographical history presents the complete set of 74 surviving letters written by Stromberg to his wife during this period. The letters provide both historians and the interested public with a rare and unique glimpse into the every-day living conditions of inmates in one of the GULAG labour camps. The book also traces Stromberg's life following his release. More importantly, it relates how he founded the thriving Tomsk school to the wider historical context of electroanalysis in the USSR, drawing conclusions about the rate of scientific development as compared to the West and showing how 'wet analysis' remained of vital importance to industry long after equivalent measurements were made instrumentally elsewhere.Readers will also appreciate how Stromberg's invaluable contributions in the 'Tomsk school of electroanalysis' laid the foundations for the extensive metallurgical extraction and nuclear industries that dominated the entire Siberian region for many years. This book is must-read for anyone interested in the life and times of an important, yet often overlooked scientist of the second world war.

Book Tuning Ag and Mn2 doping in ZnS Ag Mn embedded polymers for flexible white light emitting films

Download or read book Tuning Ag and Mn2 doping in ZnS Ag Mn embedded polymers for flexible white light emitting films written by Lun Ma and published by OAE Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2024-01-04 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexible Light Emitting Diodes are versatile lighting solutions that offer bendable and adaptable illumination possibilities. A soft, flexible white luminescent film (1 mm) shows promise for foldable electroluminescent devices and applications. This film was fabricated using ZnS:Ag and Mn. Under different excitation wavelengths, the phosphors emit blue light due to Ag+ luminescence centers and red light from the d-d transition of Mn2+. The blue emission is greatly suppressed at high Mn2+ doping levels, requiring reduced Ag+ doping in co-doped ZnS:Ag,Mn compared to solo-doped ZnS:Ag samples. By adjusting Ag+ and Mn2+ concentrations, the ZnS:Ag(1%),Mn(0.2%) phosphors show a proper intensity ratio of blue and red emissions, making them a promising candidate for future white light applications.

Book Ag ERPs database a novel repository of environment related provisions for agriculture fisheries and forestry in regional trade agreements

Download or read book Ag ERPs database a novel repository of environment related provisions for agriculture fisheries and forestry in regional trade agreements written by Avesani, C. and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2024-02-23 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship between trade and the environment is intricate. Trade can improve the allocation of production among countries, with an efficiency-enhancing role in natural resources use. Likewise, open markets can improve access to new technologies that make domestic production processes more cost-efficient and reduce the use of inputs as well as other environmentally harmful substances. However, economic growth due to trade expansion can have a direct impact on the environment by increasing pollution and contributing to natural resource degradation. Trade liberalization may also lead to specialization in pollution-intensive activities in some countries, especially when environmental policies are not stringent. In recent years, there has been a significant shift in how trade policies are being approached, with a renewed emphasis on balancing sustainable development and market liberalization to ensure that trade policies and environmental protection are coherent and mutually supportive. Since the establishment of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995, regional trade agreements (RTAs) have become a common option to further liberalize trade, growing significantly in number. RTAs have also expanded rapidly in terms of regulatory coverage and have evolved to directly referencing sustainable development and including provisions linking the environment to the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors. Based on novel dataset, this research looks into the trends in inclusion of environmental provisions related to the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors (“Ag-ERPs”) in RTAs and provides policy recommendations.

Book The Spartanburg Plant Investment by BMW AG

Download or read book The Spartanburg Plant Investment by BMW AG written by Pascale Taube and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2004-08-11 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: In the pursuit of success, higher profit, gaining market share and dealing with the challenges of day to day business. The big national companies, wherever they may be, have dreams and aspirations. As a CEO or General Manager of a big company; there is several objectives to achieve and strive for. Among them, on the top of any list, these will be some of them. Get the most of the revenues and provide for the shareholders, it has in the recent years become more and more apparent, that the big companies seem to focus on shareholder value . This is often found in the US and is finding its way to the European continent. Another primary aim is to expand and become bigger or at least as big the main competitor. There is several reasons and valid objectives; one being the natural instinct of any CEO or General Manager; to achieve success and become an even bigger share of the global market. Other reasons may be the search for new markets, for whatever reason, the need for cutting the production costs, to be closer to the customers or even to have access to new technologies or raw materials. In this case study, we will deal with the issue of BMW AG s decision in the mid 90 s to go abroad. To settle on the US market, starting up a manufacturing facility. There is a wide range of reasons, concerns and objectives to be dealt with prior to make that certain move, settling on foreign shores and setting up business. In order to understand what we are dealing with, we need to define multinational: Companies operating in multiple countries, but responding to local product-markets through more customized approaches In order to deal and operate in that environment, that company is expected to have highly qualified resources and access to a wide range of information s; such as pricing, local laws and regulations, knowledge and understanding of the customer s need and preference s to name of few. The road that the company is about to embark upon, prior to going multinational, is full of risks in all sorts of different areas; such as political risks, financial risks, regulatory risks and risks dealing with competition. There must be a solid research team ready at hand, being able to provide the management team, with the necessary information s and background information. We will cast a light on the problems, benefits, motives and challenges regarding multinational business. Zusammenfassung: Die vorliegende englischsprachige [...]

Book Electronic Structure of Metal Phthalocyanines on Ag 100

Download or read book Electronic Structure of Metal Phthalocyanines on Ag 100 written by Cornelius Krull and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-19 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of molecules in technological devices hinges on the proper understanding of their behavior on metallic electrodes or substrates. The intrinsic molecular electronic and magnetic properties are modified at a metallic interface, and greatly depend on the atomic configuration of the molecule-metal bond. This poses certain problems, such as the lack of reproducibility in the transport properties of molecular junctions, but also offers the possibility to induce new charge and spin configurations that are only present at the interface. The results presented in this thesis address this issue, providing a comprehensive overview of the influence of molecule-metal and molecule-molecule interactions on the electronic and magnetic properties of molecules adsorbed on metallic substrates. Using metal-phthalocyanines (MePc), a commonly used metal-organic complex as a model system, each chapter explores different aspects of the interaction with silver surfaces: the local adsorption geometry, self-assembly, the modifications of the electronic and magnetic characteristics due to hybridization and charge transfer, and finally the manipulation of molecular charge and spin states by electron doping using alkali atoms moved with the STM tip.

Book Evaluation of the project Integrating Agriculture into National Adaptation Plans NAP Ag

Download or read book Evaluation of the project Integrating Agriculture into National Adaptation Plans NAP Ag written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Integrating Agriculture into National Adaptation Plans (NAP-Ag) programme, jointly coordinated by UNDP and FAO, worked with eleven countries to identify and integrate climate adaptation measures into national planning and budgeting processes, in support of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (in particular SDG 2 - Zero Hunger; and SDG 13 - Climate Action) and the Paris Agreement. The evaluation assessed programme relevance and the achievement and sustainability of programme results among other dimensions. The evaluation found that NAP-Ag’s country-driven, multi-sector and multi-level approach allowed for ample engagement of stakeholders, contributed to establish coordination mechanisms and promoted ownership of results. The programme supported the development of institutional capacities; directly influenced the integration of agriculture adaptation options into countries’ plans, practices and policies, and supported countries in accessing climate finance. NAP-Ag also contributed to global climate change adaptation efforts by supporting countries to accomplish the work outlined by UNFCCC. NAP-Ag also influenced the inclusion of gender aspects adaptation options in many countries. FAO should continue promoting the adoption of programme outcomes in countries’ systems and further support countries to mobilize financial support to scale up lessons learned from NAP-Ag. Private sector involvement should be increased to guarantee the implementation of certain climate adaptation options. Strategic stakeholders should be engaged to support gender mainstreaming efforts in agriculture climate adaptation options.
