Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hunt Tyrannosaurus rex: Which Gun Would You Choose Originally published in 2008, much of the information presented was ahead of its time; some of it still is. "The selection of a rifle for use in the sporting pursuit of Tyrannosaurus rex, a rexGun, is so deserving of thoughtful assessment and requires such careful consideration because your life, and the lives of those in your hunting party, may very well depend upon it. The question of how much gun is truly enough to provide a reasonable chance of success against a T. rex is critically important." This work examines the history, use and terminal ballistics of bullets, cartridges and rifles suitable for use hunting T. rex. It offers advice and unique formulae that can aid a hunter in the selection of appropriate cartridges and bullets. And, it explores T. rex in ways never before seen in print. Included are numerous photographs and detailed tables. And, to aid with shot placement, a Target Areas Diagram of a Tyrannosaurus rex. Hunters, gun enthusiasts, and dinosaur fans will all find rexGun intriguing, exciting, and hard to put down.

Download or read book The empire of nature written by John M. MacKenzie and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2017-03-01 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study assesses the significance of the hunting cult as a major element of the imperial experience in Africa and Asia. Through a study of the game laws and the beginnings of conservation in the 19th and early-20th centuries, the author demonstrates the racial inequalities which existed between Europeans and indigenous hunters. Africans were denied access to game, and the development of game reserves and national parks accelerated this process. Indigenous hunters in Africa and India were turned into "poachers" and only Europeans were permitted to hunt. In India, the hunting of animals became the chief recreation of military officers and civilian officials, a source of display and symbolic dominance of the environment. Imperial hunting fed the natural history craze of the day, and many hunters collected trophies and specimens for private and public collections as well as contributing to hunting literature. Adopting a radical approach to issues of conservation, this book links the hunting cult in Africa and India to the development of conservation, and consolidates widely-scattered material on the importance of hunting to the economics and nutrition of African societies.

  • Pages : 260 pages

Download or read book Ecology and Empire written by Tom Griffiths and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecology and Empire forged a historical partnership of great power -- and one which, particularly in the last 500 years, radically changed human and natural history across the globe. This book scrutinizes European expansion from the perspectives of the so-called colonized peripheries, the settler societies. It begins with Australia as a prism through which to consider the relations between settlers and their lands, but moves well beyond this to a range of lands of empire. It uses their distinctive ecologies and histories to shed new light on both the imperial and the settler environmental experience. Ecology and Empire also explores the way in which the science of ecology itself was an artifact of empire, drawing together the fields of imperial history and the history of science.

Book Victorian Edwardian Natal

Download or read book Victorian Edwardian Natal written by Jennifer Ann Verbeek and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of photographs is not a pictorial history of the Colony of Natal - it is essentially an entertainment; glimpses of the activities and events in the daily lives of ordinary people. While this book does not claim to be a pictorial history, photographs from the past are part of the historical record and, while some pictures are complete in what they depict, others need some background historical knowledge to be fully appreciated. Therefore the book provides a brief outline of some of the more important events in the history of the colony. They have been given at intervals in the book and it is hoped that they will serve to remind readers of the events of the period covered by the photographs. Secondly where possible a caption has been used against each photograph and a quotation by a contemporary or authoritative author.
