Book The Demography of South Africa

Download or read book The Demography of South Africa written by Tukufu Zuberi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-22 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking study of South Africa provides a unique look at the interplay of demographic, social and economic processes in a society undergoing rapid change as a result of the collapse of apartheid. It uses data from the first post-apartheid census as the basis for analysis of fertility, mortality within the context of HIV/AIDS, migration, education, employment, and household structure. These census data are complemented by large-scale household surveys and data from a partial registration system to study the relationships among various demographic, economic, and social phenomena. For the first time the demographic consequences of both the longer-term impact of apartheid policies and the policies of the new South Africa are examined and compared. This comprehensive reference links the demographic behavior of South Africa's various population groups to social, economic, and political inequalities created by policies of separate and unequal development. Prepared under the auspices of the Population Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania, it is an essential resource for all scholars and practitioners in the field.

Download or read book African Population Studies written by A. Sathiya Susuman and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is indeed my pleasure to introduce the African Population Studies material on Demography/Population Studies. This is my great pleasure to include few different African studies those who have worked under my supervision. I have taken care of the latest Demographic and Health Survey data, Population Census and Primary data were used in the analysis and existing development content as per African situation. I have tried to use the statistical analysis much simpler in order to cover broader aspects of Population Studies. The present book title covered the African Population Studies composed different topics; health data inconsistencies, mental health, maternal mortality, family size preference, antenatal care, contraceptive practice and youth sexuality in Africa. In the recent years there are many issues in order to estimate fertility, mortality and migration, HIV/AIDS and vulnerable diseases but they are not included here as I feel that there is need of more work on these techniques in order to make them perfect. I hope the basic demographic analysis would fulfill the basic requirements of students, researchers and policy makers in the field of Population Studies.

Book Africa s Population In Search of a Demographic Dividend

Download or read book Africa s Population In Search of a Demographic Dividend written by Hans Groth and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-23 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the promises as well as the challenges the demographic dividend brings to sub-Saharan Africa as fertility rates in the region fall and the labor force grows. It offers a detailed analysis of what conditions must be met in order for the region to take full economic advantage of ongoing population dynamics. As the book makes clear, the region will need to accelerate reforms to cope with its demographic transition, in particular the decline of fertility. The continent will need to foster human capital formation through renewed efforts in the areas of education, health and employment. This will entail a true vision and determination on the part of African leaders and their development partners. The book will help readers to gain solid knowledge of the demographic trends and provide insights into socioeconomic policies that eventually might lead sub-Saharan Africa into a successful future.
