Book Affine Maps Euclidean Motions and Quadrics

Download or read book Affine Maps Euclidean Motions and Quadrics written by Agustí Reventós Tarrida and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Affine geometry and quadrics are fascinating subjects alone, but they are also important applications of linear algebra. They give a first glimpse into the world of algebraic geometry yet they are equally relevant to a wide range of disciplines such as engineering. This text discusses and classifies affinities and Euclidean motions culminating in classification results for quadrics. A high level of detail and generality is a key feature unmatched by other books available. Such intricacy makes this a particularly accessible teaching resource as it requires no extra time in deconstructing the author’s reasoning. The provision of a large number of exercises with hints will help students to develop their problem solving skills and will also be a useful resource for lecturers when setting work for independent study. Affinities, Euclidean Motions and Quadrics takes rudimentary, and often taken-for-granted, knowledge and presents it in a new, comprehensive form. Standard and non-standard examples are demonstrated throughout and an appendix provides the reader with a summary of advanced linear algebra facts for quick reference to the text. All factors combined, this is a self-contained book ideal for self-study that is not only foundational but unique in its approach.’ This text will be of use to lecturers in linear algebra and its applications to geometry as well as advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students.

Book The Universe of Quadrics

Download or read book The Universe of Quadrics written by Boris Odehnal and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-21 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Universe of Quadrics This text presents the theory of quadrics in a modern form. It builds on the previously published book "The Universe of Conics", including many novel results that are not easily accessible elsewhere. As in the conics book, the approach combines synthetic and analytic methods to derive projective, affine, and metrical properties, covering both Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries. While the history of conics is more than two thousand years old, the theory of quadrics began to develop approximately three hundred years ago. Quadrics play a fundamental role in numerous fields of mathematics and physics, their applications ranging from mechanical engineering, architecture, astronomy, and design to computer graphics. This text will be invaluable to undergraduate and graduate mathematics students, those in adjacent fields of study, and anyone with a deeper interest in geometry. Complemented with about three hundred fifty figures and photographs, this innovative text will enhance your understanding of projective geometry, linear algebra, mechanics, and differential geometry, with careful exposition and many illustrative exercises.

Book Multiple View Geometry in Computer Vision

Download or read book Multiple View Geometry in Computer Vision written by Richard Hartley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-03-25 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A basic problem in computer vision is to understand the structure of a real world scene given several images of it. Techniques for solving this problem are taken from projective geometry and photogrammetry. Here, the authors cover the geometric principles and their algebraic representation in terms of camera projection matrices, the fundamental matrix and the trifocal tensor. The theory and methods of computation of these entities are discussed with real examples, as is their use in the reconstruction of scenes from multiple images. The new edition features an extended introduction covering the key ideas in the book (which itself has been updated with additional examples and appendices) and significant new results which have appeared since the first edition. Comprehensive background material is provided, so readers familiar with linear algebra and basic numerical methods can understand the projective geometry and estimation algorithms presented, and implement the algorithms directly from the book.

Book Affine Vertex and W algebras

Download or read book Affine Vertex and W algebras written by Dražen Adamović and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on recent developments in the theory of vertex algebras, with particular emphasis on affine vertex algebras, affine W-algebras, and W-algebras appearing in physical theories such as logarithmic conformal field theory. It is widely accepted in the mathematical community that the best way to study the representation theory of affine Kac–Moody algebras is by investigating the representation theory of the associated affine vertex and W-algebras. In this volume, this general idea can be seen at work from several points of view. Most relevant state of the art topics are covered, including fusion, relationships with finite dimensional Lie theory, permutation orbifolds, higher Zhu algebras, connections with combinatorics, and mathematical physics. The volume is based on the INdAM Workshop Affine, Vertex and W-algebras, held in Rome from 11 to 15 December 2017. It will be of interest to all researchers in the field.

Download or read book Topological Geometry written by Ian R. Porteous and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1981-02-05 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The earlier chapter of this self-contained text provide a route from first principles through standard linear and quadratic algebra to geometric algebra, with Clifford's geometric algebras taking pride of place. In parallel with this is an account, also from first principles, of the elementary theory of topological spaces and of continuous and differentiable maps that leads up to the definitions of smooth manifolds and their tangent spaces and of Lie groups and Lie algebras. The calculus is presented as far as possible in basis free form to emphasize its geometrical flavour and its linear algebra content. In this second edition Dr Porteous has taken the opportunity to add a chapter on triality which extends earlier work on the Spin groups in the chapter on Clifford algebras. The details include a number of important transitive group actions and a description of one of the exceptional Lie groups, the group G2. A number of corrections and improvements have also been made. There are many exercises throughout the book and senior undergraduates in mathematics as well as first-year graduate students will continue to find it stimulating and rewarding.

Book Notes on Geometry

Download or read book Notes on Geometry written by Elmer G. Rees and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, geometry has played a lesser role in undergraduate courses than it has ever done. Nevertheless, it still plays a leading role in mathematics at a higher level. Its central role in the history of mathematics has never been disputed. It is important, therefore, to introduce some geometry into university syllabuses. There are several ways of doing this, it can be incorporated into existing courses that are primarily devoted to other topics, it can be taught at a first year level or it can be taught in higher level courses devoted to differential geometry or to more classical topics. These notes are intended to fill a rather obvious gap in the literature. It treats the classical topics of Euclidean, projective and hyperbolic geometry but uses the material commonly taught to undergraduates: linear algebra, group theory, metric spaces and complex analysis. The notes are based on a course whose aim was two fold, firstly, to introduce the students to some geometry and secondly to deepen their understanding of topics that they have already met. What is required from the earlier material is a familiarity with the main ideas, specific topics that are used are usually redone.

Book Implicit Objects in Computer Graphics

Download or read book Implicit Objects in Computer Graphics written by Luiz Velho and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Implicit definition and description of geometric objects and surfaces plays a critical role in the appearance and manipulation of computer graphics. In addition, the mathematical definition of shapes, using an implicit form, has pivotal applications for geometric modeling, visualization and animation. Until recently, the parametric form has been by far the most popular geometric representation used in computer graphics and computer-aided design. Whereas parametric objects and the techniques associated with them have been exhaustively developed, the implicit form has been used as a complementary geometric representation, mainly in the restricted context of specific applications. However, recent developments in graphics are changing this situation, and the community is beginning to draw its attention to implicit objects. This is reflected in the current research of aspects related to this subject. Employing a coherent conceptual framework, Implicit Objects in Computer Graphics addresses the role of implicitly defined objects in the following parts: mathematical foundations of geometric models, implicit formulations for the specification of shapes, implicit primitives, techniques for constructing and manipulating implicit objects, modeling, rendering and animating implicit objects.
