Book AeroStruct Enable and Learn How to Integrate Flexibility in Design

Download or read book AeroStruct Enable and Learn How to Integrate Flexibility in Design written by Ralf Heinrich and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on the German research initiative AeroStruct, a three-year collaborative project between universities and the aircraft industry. It describes the development of an integrated multidisciplinary simulation environment for aircraft analysis and optimization using high-fidelity methods. This system is able to run at a high level of automatism, thus representing a step forward with respect to previous ones. Its special features are: a CAD description that is independent from the disciplines involved, an automated CFD mesh generation and an automated structure model generation including a sizing process. The book also reports on test cases by both industrial partners and DLR demonstrating the advantages of the new environment and its suitability for the industry. These results were also discussed during the AeroStruct closing Symposium, which took place on 13-14 October 2015 at the DLR in Braunschweig, Germany. The book provides expert readers with a timely report on multidisciplinary aircraft design and optimization. Thanks to a good balance between theory and practice, it is expected to address an audience of both academics and professional, and to offer them new ideas for future research and development.

Book Competitive Assessment of the U S Large Civil Aircraft Aerostructures Industry

Download or read book Competitive Assessment of the U S Large Civil Aircraft Aerostructures Industry written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This study was requested by the House Committee on Ways and Means in a letter dated March 8, 2000. The Committee requested that the U.S. International Trade Commission (the Commission) examine the ability of the U.S. civil aerostructures industry to compete over the short and long terms with those industries in Europe, Canada, and to the extent possible, Asia. The Commission's report examines the composition and recent trends of the large civil aircraft (LCA) aerostructures industry; the process of new aerostructures development; the means and trends of government support for research and development; and the relative strengths and weaknesses of the aerostructures industries in these countries and regions, for the period 1995-99 and to the extent possible, 2000"--Publisher description

Book Variational Analysis and Aerospace Engineering Mathematical Challenges for Aerospace Design

Download or read book Variational Analysis and Aerospace Engineering Mathematical Challenges for Aerospace Design written by Giuseppe Buttazzo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-04-23 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of papers presented at the Variational Analysis and Aerospace Engineering Workshop II held in Erice, Italy in September 2010 at the International School of Mathematics "Guido Stampacchia". The workshop provided a platform for aerospace engineers and mathematicians (from universities, research centers and industry) to discuss the advanced problems requiring an extensive application of mathematics. The presentations were dedicated to the most advanced subjects in engineering and, in particular to computational fluid dynamics methods, introduction of new materials, optimization in aerodynamics, structural optimization, space missions, flight mechanics, control theory and optimization, variational methods and applications, etc. This book will capture the interest of researchers from both academia and industry.

Book Composite Materials Research Progress

Download or read book Composite Materials Research Progress written by Lucas P. Durand and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite materials are engineered materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties and which remain separate and distinct on a macroscopic level within the finished structure. Fibre Reinforced Polymers or FRPs include Wood comprising (cellulose fibers in a lignin and hemicellulose matrix), Carbon-fiber reinforced plastic or CFRP, Glass-fibre reinforced plastic or GFRP (also GRP). If classified by matrix then there are Thermoplastic Composites, short fiber thermoplastics, long fibre thermoplastics or long fibre reinforced thermoplastics There are numerous thermoset composites, but advanced systems usually incorporate aramid fibre and carbon fibre in an epoxy resin matrix. Composites can also utilise metal fibres reinforcing other metals, as in Metal matrix composites or MMC. Ceramic matrix composites include Bone (hydroxyapatite reinforced with collagen fibres), Cermet (ceramic and metal) and Concrete. Organic matrix/ceramic aggregate composites include Asphalt concrete, Mastic asphalt, Mastic roller hybrid, Dental composite, Syntactic foam and Mother of Pearl. Chobham armour is a special composite used in military applications. Engineered wood includes a wide variety of different products such as Plywood, Oriented strand board, Wood plastic composite (recycled wood fibre in polyethylene matrix), Pykrete (sawdust in ice matrix), Plastic-impregnated or laminated paper or textiles, Arborite, Formica (plastic) and Micarta. Composite materials have gained popularity (despite their generally high cost) in high-performance products such as aerospace components (tails, wings , fuselages, propellors), boat and scull hulls, and racing car bodies. More mundane uses include fishing rods and storage tanks. This new book presents the latest research from around the world.

Book Design and Analysis of Composite Structures

Download or read book Design and Analysis of Composite Structures written by Christos Kassapoglou and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-07-05 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design and Analysis of Composite Structures enables graduate students and engineers to generate meaningful and robust designs of complex composite structures. Combining analysis and design methods for structural components, the book begins with simple topics such as skins and stiffeners and progresses through to entire components of fuselages and wings. Starting with basic mathematical derivation followed by simplifications used in real-world design, Design and Analysis of Composite Structures presents the level of accuracy and range of applicability of each method. Examples taken from actual applications are worked out in detail to show how the concepts are applied, solving the same design problem with different methods based on different drivers (e.g. cost or weight) to show how the final configuration changes as the requirements and approach change. Provides a toolkit of analysis and design methods to most situations encountered in practice, as well as analytical frameworks and the means to solving them for tackling less frequent problems. Presents solutions applicable to optimization schemes without having to run finite element models at each iteration, speeding up the design process and allowing examination of several more alternatives than traditional approaches. Includes guidelines showing how decisions based on manufacturing considerations affect weight and how weight optimization may adversely affect the cost. Accompanied by a website at www.wiley.com/go/kassapoglou hosting lecture slides and solutions to the exercises for instructors.
