This book was released on 2017-12-24 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Aeroplane Design, and a Simple Explanation of Inherent Stability The disquisition on the subject, which follows this preface, was originally written by Mr. F. S. Barnwell to be read as a paper before the Engineer ing) Society of Glasgow University. It was an sequently published in serial form in the aeroplane early in 1915, and so great and so constant was the demand for the numbers con taining the treatise that it has seemed worth while to republish the whole in the form of a small book, and to append to it a short article by Mr. W. H. Sayers on the subject of The Stability of Aero planes, which also appeared in the aeroplane. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Design of Aeroplanes Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Design of Aeroplanes Classic Reprint written by Arthur W. Judge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Design of Aeroplanes The present volume is the outcome of an endeavour to fulfil an aeronautical need, which must have been experienced by most designers, draughtsmen, and students, in entering the field of aeronautics - namely, the absence of collected data and design methods. In other branches of engineering one finds numerous design and pocket books containing a compendium Of useful information, and fulfilling most of the ordinary requirements. In aeronautical engineering, however, although there are numerous works of a more or less popular and romantic nature, yet the absence of similar design and pocket books is marked, no doubt on account of the more recent development of this branch. The chief Object of the present work is to present in a simple yet brief form the principles underlying the design of aeroplanes from the standpoint of the mechanical engineer, and to collect and tabulate some of the data which experience has shown to be useful in design work. A chapter has been included dealing with the more important mechanical principles involved in aeronautical design, with an indication as to their utility and application. Obviously, the subject Of aeroplane design is now so wide that it is impossible either to treat each branch of the subject in full, or to embrace every branch, but it is hoped in the complete series of aeronautical manuals to cover most of the ground; the author, for these reasons, seeks the indulgence Of the reader for any apparent incompleteness in the present work. Book Airplane Design and Construction Classic Reprint

Download or read book Airplane Design and Construction Classic Reprint written by Ottorino Pomilio and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Airplane Design and Construction By far the major part of experimental work in aero dynamics has been conducted in Europe rather than in America, where the feat of flying in a heavier than air ma chine was first accomplished. This book presents in greater detail than has hitherto been attempted in this country the application of aerodynamic research conducted abroad to practical airplane design. The airplane industry is now shifting from the design and construction of military types of craft to that of pleasure and commercial types. The publication of this book at this time is, therefore, opportune, and it should go far toward replacing by scientific procedure many of the cut and try methods now used. Employment of the data presented should enable designers to save both time and expense. The arrangement, presentation of subject matter, and explanation of the derivation of working formulae, together with the assumptions upon which they are based, and consequently their limitations, are such that the book lends itself to use as a text in technical schools and colleges. Book Natural Stability and the Parachute Principle in Aeroplanes Classic Reprint

Download or read book Natural Stability and the Parachute Principle in Aeroplanes Classic Reprint written by W. Lemaitre and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Natural Stability and the Parachute Principle in Aeroplanes Since there is nothing new under the sun, it is useless to pretend that there is anything new in the design here advocated or the theories advanced. Both are rather the result of a commonsense consideration of the different points of all flying machines, natural and artificial, and an endeavour to select from the great number of good points those which seem most likely to blend together into a practical machine. The conclusions reached are the result of a quite independent investigation, carried on over three years by means of numberless experiments, and the writer has endeavoured to make no single statement which he cannot by some experiment amply prove. Book Aircraft Design

Download or read book Aircraft Design written by Ajoy Kumar Kundu and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-04-12 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aircraft Design explores fixed winged aircraft design at the conceptual phase of a project. Designing an aircraft is a complex multifaceted process embracing many technical challenges in a multidisciplinary environment. By definition, the topic requires intelligent use of aerodynamic knowledge to configure aircraft geometry suited specifically to the customer's demands. It involves estimating aircraft weight and drag and computing the available thrust from the engine. The methodology shown here includes formal sizing of the aircraft, engine matching, and substantiating performance to comply with the customer's demands and government regulatory standards. Associated topics include safety issues, environmental issues, material choice, structural layout, understanding flight deck, avionics, and systems (for both civilian and military aircraft). Cost estimation and manufacturing considerations are also discussed. The chapters are arranged to optimize understanding of industrial approaches to aircraft design methodology. Example exercises from the author's industrial experience dealing with a typical aircraft design are included.

Book THEORY OF FLIGHT CLASSIC REPR

Download or read book THEORY OF FLIGHT CLASSIC REPR written by Richard Von Mises and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-04 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Theory of Flight Thirty years ago, in the summer of 1913, the author gave for the first time a university course on the mechanics of airplane ight. On the basis of these lectures and similar ones in the following years there developed a small elementary textbook Fluglehre, which was pub lished up to 1936 in five German editions and translated into several languages. When asked, about three years ago, to prepare an English edition the author found that a book of somewhat different type would be more useful under the present conditions. There already exist in this country several introductory texts on the mechanics of ight suitable for beginners. On the other hand, a mature student or an engineer well versed in the advanced stages of higher mathematics can readily work his way through the currently published research papers. An actual demand does, however, seem to exist for a book at an intermediate level, say, on the borderline between the last year of college and the first year of graduate work. It is assumed that the reader of the present text knows the principles of calculus and has some training in general mechanics inso far as the standard college education provides for these things. Only such parts of the theory of ight as are understandable at this level are presented in the book, the mathematical theory of uid mechanics thus being excluded.1 In order to keep the book within reasonable limits peripheral questions and many details in all topics have had to be omitted. Although the book is meant as a text for students and engineers, it was not the author's purpose to supply the reader with ready-made formulas in which to substitute design data. Nor was it his intention to give a collection of results that the candidate for a degree should memorize. The book aims, as did the Fluglehre, to develop interest in and understanding of the fundamental ideas that underlie the design and the operation of modern aircraft. The problems inserted at the ends of the sections, particularly those marked by an asterisk, are intended to give some direction to the efforts of any reader who would apply himself toward a better comprehension of the diversified questions involved in the theory of airplane ight.
