Book Aeroplane Construction a Handbook on the Various Methods and Details of Construction Employed in the Building of Aeroplanes Classic Reprint

Download or read book Aeroplane Construction a Handbook on the Various Methods and Details of Construction Employed in the Building of Aeroplanes Classic Reprint written by Sydney Camm and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-02 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Aeroplane Construction a Handbook on the Various Methods and Details of Construction Employed in the Building of Aeroplanes The articles embodied with other matter in this book, were intended as a broad survey of the principles and details of modern aeroplane construction, concerning which there is a noticeable deficit amongst existing aeronautical literature. They were written at a time when specific references to modern British aircraft were forbidden, and although from a comparative point of view this is to be regretted, the details and methods dealt with are, in the author's opinion, representative of those most generally used in machines of present-day design. It is hoped that the book will appeal not only to those engaged on the manufacture, but also to those concerned with the uses of aircraft. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Building and Flying an Aeroplane: A Practical Handbook Covering the Design, Construction, and Operation of Aeroplanes and Gliders But in this ease of accomplishment lies a danger, namely, the belittling of the value of accurate design and the misjudging of the true importance of small things. The inventive mind usually believes itself capable of making improvements in almost anything, and the aeroplane inventor is no exception to the rule. Filled with the confidence born of ignorance, and with only the knowledge he has gleaned from newspaper and magazine accounts of the popular types of machines, he works out a brand new design. The usual, in fact, the invariable result is failure, discouragement, and a loss of time and money. How much more sensible for the young inventor to build his first machine without varying in one particular from a tried and proved model, leaving his ights of inventive fancy to his later years of maturer knowledge and judgment. Download or read book Airplane Design and Construction Classic Reprint written by Ottorino Pomilio and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Airplane Design and Construction By far the major part of experimental work in aero dynamics has been conducted in Europe rather than in America, where the feat of flying in a heavier than air ma chine was first accomplished. This book presents in greater detail than has hitherto been attempted in this country the application of aerodynamic research conducted abroad to practical airplane design. The airplane industry is now shifting from the design and construction of military types of craft to that of pleasure and commercial types. The publication of this book at this time is, therefore, opportune, and it should go far toward replacing by scientific procedure many of the cut and try methods now used. Employment of the data presented should enable designers to save both time and expense. The arrangement, presentation of subject matter, and explanation of the derivation of working formulae, together with the assumptions upon which they are based, and consequently their limitations, are such that the book lends itself to use as a text in technical schools and colleges. More companies were building airplanes than were building cars, and men like Charles Lindbergh and Roscoe Turner dominated the headlines. Created to educate aviators and the public about aviation technology, John B. Rathbun¿s book quickly became standard issue at many flight schools. Nearly 400 pages long, and richly illustrated with period photos and diagrams, the book covers aerodynamics, constrution details, performance, flight techniques, control systems, and many other topics. It also includes a glossary of terms that¿s straight out of the barnstorming era.
