Download or read book Missile Aerodynamics written by Jack Norman Nielsen and published by AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics). This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The similarities between the airplane and the missile extend beyond their flying capabilities, and at higher operational speeds, the configuration distinctions become even less apparent. " Missile Aerodynamics," a classic now available from AIAA and Nielsen Engineering and Research, Inc., combines the best of missile and airplane aerodynamics, drawing extensively from numerous technical papers to present a rational and unified account of the principles behind missile projection. Evaluate the missile versus the airplane in a multitude of areas, from longitudinal acceleration, wing loading, roll and dynamic stability, guidance and navigation, and more. J.N. Nielsen covers every aspect of missile aerodynamics, from the classification of missiles and basic formulas to innovative aerodynamic controls. In one reliable reference, readers will find hundreds of schematics, equations, and tables with practical applications in missile design and engineering. Originally published by Nielsen Engineering and Research, Inc.

Book Aerodynamic Stability Technology for Maneuverable Missiles

Download or read book Aerodynamic Stability Technology for Maneuverable Missiles written by Gennaro F. Aiello and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study developed empirical methods to predict aerodynamic characteristics of body-tail, body-wing-tail and body-strake-tail missile configurations. Methods cover the Mach number range from 0.6 to 3.0. Methods cover the individual body and tail characteristics at angles of attack from 0 to 180 degrees. For winged bodies the methods encompass angles of attack up to about 30 degrees. All mutual interference effects are accounted for, allowing accurate prediction of force and moment coefficients. Book Aerodynamics of Missiles and Rockets

Download or read book Aerodynamics of Missiles and Rockets written by Mark Pinney and published by McGraw-Hill Professional. This book was released on 2013-12-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proven techniques for deriving the basic aerodynamic properties of axisymmetric-shaped bodies with the minimum amount of time and effort Aerodynamics of Missiles and Rockets describes the basic aerodynamics model used in the widespread Analytical Initial Missile Synthesis (AIMS) computer code for symmetric missile and rocket sizing and design. It is a collection of empirical, semi-empirical and theoretical aerodynamics engineering methods for a component build-up approach to aerodynamics prediction. This book serves as an on-the-job application manual and desk reference for the prediction of basic aerodynamics. It can also be used for courses in applied aerodynamics in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering programs and for short courses in industry and government. This practical guide provides an alternative approach to utilizing numerous, complex, stand-alone computer codes, but is also a good complement to these codes. The book offers insight into the methods and techniques used to derive answers and correct magnitudes generated by code, giving confidence in final results. Features a Microsoft Excel file that automates calculations and provides complete tabulated output for missile and rocket geometry and design, and design and for rapid assessments of aerodynamic properties based on changes in geometry or flight conditions On-the-job application manual and desk reference for the prediction of basic aerodynamics Combination of long-standing, empirical and semi-empirical techniques with classical aerodynamic theory A component build-up approach utilized, with body and wing/tail surface aerodynamics determined separately and then combined for total configuration zero-lift drag, lift, center of pressure location, and pitching moment

Book Next Generation Missile Design

Download or read book Next Generation Missile Design written by J. E. Williams and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To meet operational requirements, the next generation of long range cruise class missiles will fly at relatively high altitudes and supersonic or hypersonic speeds. Low cost design and development approaches must be used. To illustrate these approaches, the results of the USAF sponsored Aerodynamic Configured Missile (ACM) Program and the subsequent Low Cost Aerodynamic Configured Missile Demonstrator Program are summarized with emphasis on the impact of these studies on future missile concepts. The ACM program objective was to exploit the aerodynamic potential of supersonic cruise and maneuvering missiles to achieve significant improvements in performance. Configuration development, wind tunnel testing, and performance analyses were performed. Major uses of the program results to date are described. These uses include points of departure concepts, prediction models, evaluation of prediction models, and evaluation of other missile concepts. A low cost flight program plan is described with the goal to demonstrate missile flight at high supersonic Mach numbers with high lift-to-drag ratios. A low cost approach is described which uses existing equipment, standard airframe structural design, the existing ACM data base, trajectory shaping and aggressive program planning. Two flight test options identified are wing-body concept. The design described is an ACM airframe which provides a test bed for a variety of experiments.
