Book Flight Evaluation of Ground Effect on Several Low aspect ratio Airplanes

Download or read book Flight Evaluation of Ground Effect on Several Low aspect ratio Airplanes written by Paul A. Baker and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A constant-angle-of-attack-approach technique was used to measure ground effect on several low -aspect-ratio aircraft. The flight results were compared with results from constant -altitude flybys, wind-tunnel studies, and theoretical prediction data. It was found that the constantangle-of-attack technique provided data that were consistent with data obtained from constant-altitude flybys and required fewer runs to obtain the same amount of data. The test results from an F5D-1 airplane modified with an ogee wing, a prototype F5D-1 airplane, two XB-70 airplanes, and an F-104A airplane indicate that theory and wind-tunnel results adequately predict the trends caused by ground effect as a function of height and aspect ratio. However, the magnitude of these predictions did not always agree with the flightmeasured results. In addition, there was consistent evidence that the aircraft encountered ground effect at a height above one wing span.

Book The Subsonic Static Aerodynamic Characteristics of an Airplane Model Having a Triangular Wing of Aspect Ratio 3

Download or read book The Subsonic Static Aerodynamic Characteristics of an Airplane Model Having a Triangular Wing of Aspect Ratio 3 written by Howard F. Savage and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted to determine the effects of vertical-tail location and size on the subsonic aerodynamic characteristics of a model having a triangular wing. The wing had an aspect ratio of 3, an NACA 0003.5-63 section in the streamwise direction, and plain, trailing-edge ailerons. The wing was attached to the fuselage in either a mid or high position and an unswept horizontal tail was located on the fuselage center line. Two vertical tails were tested which had areas of 26.7 or 20.3 percent of the wing area. Each vertical tail was equipped with a rudder and had a geometric aspect ratio of 1.5, a taper ratio of 0.16, and 54 degrees of sweepback of the leading edge. Each vertical tail was tested at two different tail lengths. The wind-tunnel tests were conducted at a Reynolds number of 2.5 milMon at Mach numbers from 0.25 to 0.95.

Book An Investigation at Transonic Speeds of the Effects of Thickness Ratio and of Thickened Root Sections on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wings with 47 Sweepback Aspect Ratio 3 5 and Taper Ratio 0 2 in the Slotted Test Section of the Langley 8 foot High speed Tunnel

Download or read book An Investigation at Transonic Speeds of the Effects of Thickness Ratio and of Thickened Root Sections on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wings with 47 Sweepback Aspect Ratio 3 5 and Taper Ratio 0 2 in the Slotted Test Section of the Langley 8 foot High speed Tunnel written by Ralph P. Bielat and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four wing-body combinations of the same plan form (47 degree sweep, 3.5 aspect ratio, and 0.2 taper ratio) were compared at transonic speeds in the Langley 8-foot high-speed tunnel. Three wings were 4, 6, and 9 percent thick; the fourth was 6 percent thick but, on the inner 0.4 span, tapered to 12-percent thickness at the roots.

Book Effect of Aspect Ratio on the Low speed Lateral Control Characteristics of Unswept Untapered Low aspect ratio Wings

Download or read book Effect of Aspect Ratio on the Low speed Lateral Control Characteristics of Unswept Untapered Low aspect ratio Wings written by Rodger L. Naeseth and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of untapered, unswept, complete wings of apsect ratios 1.13, 2.13, 4.13, and 6.13 was investigated at a Mach number of 0.26 to determine the effect of aspect ratio on the lateral control characteristics of the wings equipped with 0.25-chord sealed ailerons of various spans and of various spanwise locations. Design charts are presented for computing aileron effectiveness of low-aspect-ratio, untapered, unswept wings. Experimental values of control effectivenesss are compared with values estimated by theoretical methods.

Book Lift Pitching Moment and Span Load Characteristics of Wings at Low Speed as Affected by Variations of Sweep and Aspect Ratio

Download or read book Lift Pitching Moment and Span Load Characteristics of Wings at Low Speed as Affected by Variations of Sweep and Aspect Ratio written by Edward J. Hopkins and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lift, pitching-moment, and pressure distribution were measured on a wing which was swept -40, -30, 0, 35, and 45 degrees. The wing span was decreased to give aspect ratios 6.8, 5.3, 4.2, 3.4, and 2.8. The effects of independent variations of sweep and aspect ratio on the lift, pitching-moment, and span-load characteristics of the wings are compared with the effects estimated by use of the Weissinger method.
