Book Color Aerial Photography

Download or read book Color Aerial Photography written by Richard S. Driscoll and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shrubs such as antelope bitterbrush, big sagebrush, snowberry, and true mountainmohogany can be identified more consistently on large-scale (1:600-1:1,200) color infrared aerial photographs than on the same scale color aerial photographs. Indentification of relatively large forbs, including Fremont geranium and orange sneezeweed, is also easier on large scale color infrared. Neither film type appeared to give improved information regarding site delineation on smaller scale photographs. Other features of the range environment, including rodent disturbances, can best be identified on color infrared at photo scales up to 1:2,400. All of this depends on obtaining photogrpaphs at the right time of year in respect to phenology of the vegetation.

Book Conservation Drones

Download or read book Conservation Drones written by Serge A. Wich and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-05-31 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing numbers of ecologists and conservation biologists have begun to explore the use of drone technology to obtain accurate and up-to-date data on the distribution and density of species, as well as the threats to their habitats, in their ongoing attempts to conserve and monitor biodiversity. Conservation drones are low-cost, autonomous, and operator-friendly unmanned aerial vehicles that can be used for surveying, mapping, and monitoring both habitat and biodiversity. They are fast becoming a valuable complement to ground-based surveys and satellite imagery for a wide range of ecological and conservation applications. The authors pioneered the use of conservation drones for the purpose of monitoring orangutan populations in Southeast Asia. They subsequently founded ConservationDrones.org to share their knowledge of building and using drones with colleagues in the wider environmental community. This website has proved highly popular and this book aims to further build capacity to use drones and inspire others to adapt emerging technologies for practical conservation.

Book Using Digital Scanned Aerial Photography for Wetlands Delineation

Download or read book Using Digital Scanned Aerial Photography for Wetlands Delineation written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Corps of Engineers. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Environmental Protection Agency are charged the responsibility to jointly manage the nation's wetlands in accordance with the Clean Water Act and the Rivers and Harbors Act. The Corps' role is enforcement of regulations concerning dredging and filling of specific types and areas of wetlands that fall within jurisdictional boundaries. Current research is being conducted to enhance the field scientist's ability to manage these ecosystems using digital aerial photography, image processing and photo interpretation logic. This paper presents techniques used to scan (digitize), archive and use digital aerial photography for environmental resource management using a photogrammetrically accurate, CCD-based scanner. Spectral characteristics of the imagery and useful image processing routines to enhance the resulting raster file(s) for interpretation will be discussed. Book The Feasibility of Using Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Wildlife Research

Download or read book The Feasibility of Using Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Wildlife Research written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: The findings of this project contribute significantly to the field of wildlife management and other scientific disciplines that utilize low-level aerial photography. Collection of aerial data has consistently been hampered by problems with safety, monetary cost, statistical reliability, and logistics. Small (0.2-3 m wingspan), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are rapidly developing and becoming available to consumers. UAVs have the potential to replace and enhance data previously collected by small manned airplanes. This project tested the usefulness, in the context of wildlife research in Florida, of a 1.5-m-wingspan UAV equipped with an autopilot system and a high quality digital video camera. Although the UAV system was not adequate for collecting statistically reliable data necessary for wildlife research, it revealed valuable information to be applied to future wildlife UAVs, and the imagery collected indicated strong promise for a variety of wildlife research applications.
