Book Aeration of Grain in Commercial Storages Classic Reprint

Download or read book Aeration of Grain in Commercial Storages Classic Reprint written by Leo E. Holman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Aeration of Grain in Commercial Storages The fan horsepower required for aeration varies with the kind of grain, its stored depth, and the airflow rate per bushel. One horsepower will aerate up to bushels of shelled corn 20 feet deep at 3-50 Cfm per bushel. The same horse power will aerate only about bushels of wheat 100 feet deep at the same airflow rate. Cooling clean grain having an initial tempera ture of 75 to 100 F., where considerable evapora tive cooling takes place, requires from 1 to 2 days aeration time at cfm per bushel; 3 to 4 days at %o cfm per bushel; 6 to 8 days at lie cfm per bushel; and 15 to 18 days at %o Cfm per bushel. Cooling grain having an initial temperature of 75 F. And below, where little evaporative cooling takes place, may require twice the aeration time given above. Total aeration time depends on the number of cooling stages. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Managing Stored Grain to Preserve Quality and Value

Download or read book Managing Stored Grain to Preserve Quality and Value written by Carl R. Reed and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book is written specifically for those in grain operations and addresses the full range of topics related to maintaining the quality of grain stored on the commercial scale. It demonstrates how science-based information can be incorporated into grain storage operations to increase efficiency and decrease the risk of grain deterioration. Written in layman?s language, it will be comprehensible to every reader regardless of academic background. The focus of the book reflects the author?s many years of research experience in farm bins and grain elevators, in addition to his extensive contact with grain operations? professionals, both on the job and in the more than one hundred storage meetings he has conducted. The text was reviewed by grain industry leaders to ensure that it speaks to the information needs of real grain handlers and by leading scientists to ensure the accuracy of the information. This book will not duplicate any book on your shelf -- it does not merely summarize the information already available to grain operations personnel. Rather, the text guides the reader to the existing publications before proceeding to information not available elsewhere. Topics covered include: grain quality factors and terminology; grain insects and molds; physical processes affecting stored grain; grain sampling and monitoring; sanitation in grain elevators; aeration management; grain dryer management; and bulk grain fumigation. This resource will be of use to grain handlers, grain storage managers, grain elevator managers, bulk handlers, and grain merchandisers. It will also be an excellent teaching tool for courses in Agricultural Systems Management, Transport and Distribution - Grain Handling, Grain Processing, Feed Manufacturing, Grain Drying & Storage Systems, Grain Storage, Flour Milling, Applied Entomology, Applied mycology, and related areas of study.
