JOHN 11:40 Ask anyone who believes in God if they have ever witnessed His presence and they'll probably have a story to share. HE KNEW I WOULD TELL is a collection of short stories of "God moments" as they have occurred in ordinary people's lives. God moments happen all the time. Most people don't notice, or tend to ignore them or chalk them up to coincidences. But when His presence comes on strong, He is impossible to ignore! HE KNEW I WOULD TELL. Maybe, just maybe, these things happened to these particular people because He knew they would tell! Jesus said, "Return home and tell how much God has done for you." Download or read book Tales of Farmer Jack written by Louise Lefler Fry and published by . This book was released on 2005-11 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Breeze Of Honor is a story about a young Virginian couple whose dream in life is to realize their own southern plantation. During the pre Civil War era a rainbow of happiness shines upon the Oakes family. Amidst the blossoming of flowers the sharing of warm memories unfolds in the brightness of a secure future. However the darkening clouds of secession are giving rise to a forming storm. Eventually torrential rains bring forth the thunderous clash between the Blue and the Gray. The emphasis of this novel is not in the lightning unleashed by the marching armies. Rather, the portrayal reflects the intense struggle of the Oakes family to survive the onslaught. Therefore the focus concentrates upon the depth of personalities and their response to an immense tragedy. Particularly, through a young Jubal Oakes who as a Confederate officer takes the fight to an enemy bent upon destroying the family plantation. Both realism and an educational interest are enhanced by a backdrop of actual historical events. Although the personal story is fictional the catastrophic suffering of people caught up in war is vividly true.

Book excerpt: These Somerset tales, newly collected or retold with a strong sense of the land and the waters that shaped them, reflect our enduring interest in the natural landscape. Let these stories from the Summer Lands take you on a journey: across wind-wild moors that plummet to treacherous tides traversed by sea morgans; on a scramble from gorges shaped by the Devil's spite to caves dwelled in by bitter witches. Discover ancient mines and dragons' haunts, and emerge into forests and fields to be befriended by bees or bedevilled by fairies; then stroll beside ancient waterways, where willows walk and orchards talk. From Gwyn ap Neath to Joseph of Arimathea, your travelling companions will meet you from legend, history and living memory – from the places where they were once known best. Sharon Jacksties has a sharp eye for the landscape of Somerset and the seen and unseen stories that it holds, a sympathetic ear for the dialect of the South West, and a playful wit that brings this collection of tales to vivid and delightful life.

Book Ray Hicks and the Jack Tales

Download or read book Ray Hicks and the Jack Tales written by Christine Pavesic and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jack Tales derive from a Western European narrative cycle and are the oldest folktales to survive in the North American oral tradition. In the twenty-first century, the Jack Tales continue to retain their place at the forefront of Western Oral Tradition. Over the centuries the tales of Jack and his adventures have tended to absorb the interests and values of the culture in which they are operating. Ray Hicks and the Jack Tales: A Study of Appalachian History, Culture, and Philosophy, assesses folktales in the oral tradition and examines both the history and the cultural impact of them. It includes a survey of existing scholarship concerning orality and the European origins of the Jack Tales and then focuses upon a prominent Appalachian native recorder of the tales, Ray Hicks. His enthusiasm and skill as a storyteller has allowed Hicks to bring an ancient body of oral literature to all types of audiences. The way that Hicks has enhanced the Jack Tales through his manner of storytelling-the nature of his performance, his voice and mimicry, the stimulus of the audience and his response-is explored along with the setting of these tales-the Appalachian mountains.
