Book Ellen G White A Psychobiography

Download or read book Ellen G White A Psychobiography written by Steve Daily and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-12-16 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This explosive work contains a great deal of highly documented material on the life and movement of Ellen G. White that Adventists in general, to say nothing of the public, will not know. The book is not a classic psychobiography, although history and psychology are the primary disciplines employed. It also contains a sprinkling of theology and personal reflection to make it a unique blend. The most striking evidence presented raises major questions about the prophet’s mental and moral health. It is a must read for anyone who truly wants to understand Seventh-Day Adventism and its prophetic founder. A devastating work. What Numbers and Rea started, your book will finish! —John Dart (1936-2019), longtime religion editor, Los Angeles Times I enjoyed the writing and the stories. The anecdotes you included enriched the content. Your writing was personal, and I think readers will feel that you are writing to them, and makes the book of increased value. There is the same question with Joseph Smith. Why do people stay in the face of such documentation? What are the forces that keep them tied to source documentation of fraud? —Dr. Robert Anderson, psychiatrist, author, Inside the Mind of Joseph Smith: Psychobiography and the Book of Mormon I found the material fascinating, a powerful polemic! —Ronald Numbers, William Coleman professor of History, University of Wisconsin-Madison, author, Prophetess of Health

History may come to regard the General Conference Session of 2015 as a moment comparable to the 1888 Minneapolis convocation, when dramatically differing views of the church came face to face. In "Where Are We Headed?" William Johnsson looks at the life of the church after the summer of 2015 with two questions in mind: What issues are shaping the Adventist church? How shall we respond? Johnsson served as the editor of the Adventist Review from 1982 to 2006. In this book he moves easily and effectively into the role of pastor and teacher that he knows so well-and that Adventists have long appreciated.

Book A Year of Biblical Womanhood

Download or read book A Year of Biblical Womanhood written by Rachel Held Evans and published by Thomas Nelson Inc. This book was released on 2012 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times Bestseller. With just the right mixture of humor and insight, compassion and incredulity, A Year of Biblical Womanhood is an exercise in scriptural exploration and spiritual contemplation. What does God truly expect of women, and is there really a prescription for biblical womanhood? Come along with Evans as she looks for answers in the rich heritage of biblical heroines, models of grace, and all-around women of valor. What is "biblical womanhood" . . . really? Strong-willed and independent, Rachel Held Evans couldn't sew a button on a blouse before she embarked on a radical life experiment--a year of biblical womanhood. Intrigued by the traditionalist resurgence that led many of her friends to abandon their careers to assume traditional gender roles in the home, Evans decides to try it for herself, vowing to take all of the Bible's instructions for women as literally as possible for a year. Pursuing a different virtue each month, Evans learns the hard way that her quest for biblical womanhood requires more than a "gentle and quiet spirit" (1 Peter 3:4). It means growing out her hair, making her own clothes, covering her head, obeying her husband, rising before dawn, abstaining from gossip, remaining silent in church, and even camping out in the front yard during her period. See what happens when a thoroughly modern woman starts referring to her husband as "master" and "praises him at the city gate" with a homemade sign. Learn the insights she receives from an ongoing correspondence with an Orthodox Jewish woman, and find out what she discovers from her exchanges with a polygamist wife. Join her as she wrestles with difficult passages of scripture that portray misogyny and violence against women.

Book Adventist Today

    Book Details:
  • Author : John MacLarty
  • Publisher :
  • Release :
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : pages

Download or read book Adventist Today written by John MacLarty and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first issue of Adventist Today appeared in the spring of 1993. The idea of such a publication was conceived the previous fall by a group at Loma Linda, California, including Keith Colburn, Raymond Cottrell, the late Richard Hammill, Ervin Taylor and Jim Walters, who participated together in a Sabbath School class at the University Church. The founders originally envisioned a scholarly publication, but soon changed the focus to a primarily journalistic publication. They believed that the maturing Seventh-day Adventist denomination must have objective news and open discussion of issues in order to achieve the representative type of church governance that it claims. By late 1998 Adventist Today has a paid circulation of nearly 2500 subscribers in all 50 states and in a dozen countries beyond the U.S. Now in its sixth year of publication, several very talented persons have ably served in editorial roles: Raymond Cottrell, Duane Covrig, Steve Daily, Delwin Finch, Cheri Lynn Gregory, the late Gayle Saxby, James Stirling, Colleen Moore Tinker, James Walters and Susan Walters. The name Adventist Today was chosen to convey a journalistic intent, but more importantly to suggest the priority of a contemporary Adventism. Therefore, Adventist Today, dedicated to the mission and well-being of the church, is a journal of news, analysis and opinion that assists thoughtful Adventists in forming accurate, balanced opinions on current events and issues within the church. As the masthead states in each issue: "Following basic principles of ethics and canons of journalism, this publication strives for fairness, candor, and good taste." The editors realize that many church members prefer an official presentation of news and issues, and respect that view. Adventist Today is for people who prefer to think issues through for themselves on the basis of all the available facts. Adventist Today is published bimonthly by the Adventist Today Foundation, a registered non-profit entity. Our office is located on the campus of La Sierra University. We meet publication expenses equally through subscriptions and charitable contributions, and we are currently raising a Raymond F. Cottrell Endowment to ensure the future of Adventist Today.
