Book Advanced Materials for Radiation Detection

Download or read book Advanced Materials for Radiation Detection written by Krzysztof (Kris) Iniewski and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-05 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers readers an overview of some of the most recent advances in the field of advanced materials used for gamma and X-ray imaging. Coverage includes both technology and applications, with an in-depth review of the research topics from leading specialists in the field. Emphasis is on high-Z materials like CdTe, CZT and GaAs, as well as perovskite crystals, since they offer the best implementation possibilities for direct conversion X-ray detectors. Authors discuss material challenges, detector operation physics and technology and readout integrated circuits required to detect signals processes by high-Z sensors.

Book An Introduction to Radiation Protection 6E

Download or read book An Introduction to Radiation Protection 6E written by Alan Martin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-03-30 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to Radiation Protection is a highly readable account of the nature of the hazards presented by ionizing radiation and the methods of protection for those new to the field and for the non-specialist. The sixth edition of this established text takes readers through the general background of the subject, the technical principles underlying the control of radiation hazards, radiation detection and measurement, and the biological effects of radiation. These principles are followed by a consideration of radiation protection issues in the nuclear industry, the non-nuclear sector, and the medical field. Further specialised topics include risk assessment, waste management and decommissioning, radiological incidents and emergencies, relevant legislation, and organizational issues. Supplemented by clear diagrams and photographs, summary sections, and revision questions, the book is suitable for the beginner as well as the more advanced radiation practitioner. It remains an ideal primer for those working in the nuclear industry, nuclear medicine technicians, radiographers and medical physics technicians, health and safety executives and occupational health professionals. It is also an invaluable companion for anyone training or undertaking a course in radiation protection.

Book Radiation Monitoring Policy at the Advanced Light Source

Download or read book Radiation Monitoring Policy at the Advanced Light Source written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the accelerator first began operation it was decided that, until we had the necessary dosimetry data to decide otherwise, we would badge the entire worker and experimental population. Each person was issued a dosimetry badge that contained 4 TLD elements. Badges were processed on a monthly basis. After three years of analyzing a total of 65,000 TLD elements, the decision was made to modify the radiation monitoring policy at the ALS. Only those individuals in the workforce that have any potential for exposure, no matter how small, would be badged. Subsequently, DOE conducted an independent review of the ALS radiation monitoring and dosimetry program. This review concluded that the ALS program, if expanded as proposed, would be adequate under the 10 CFR 835 Rule to establish radiation exposures to an acceptable level of confidence. The review team recommended the ALS provide more comprehensive documentation on the basis for its radiation protection and monitoring program. This document describes the technical justification for that program.

Book Radiation Protection and Measurement Issues Related to Cargo Scanning with Accelerator Produced High energy X Rays

Download or read book Radiation Protection and Measurement Issues Related to Cargo Scanning with Accelerator Produced High energy X Rays written by National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements. Scientific Committee 6-5 on Radiation Protection and Measurement Issues Related to Cargo Scanning with High-Energy X Rays Produced by Accelerators and published by National Council on Radiation Protection & Measurements. This book was released on 2008 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of its series of publications related to countermeasures against nuclear and radiological terrorism, the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements has prepared three commentaries on subjects related to the radiation protection and measurement aspects of security surveillance systems. This commentary, sponsored by the DHS Domestic Nuclear Detection Office, focuses on the application of high-energy X-rays, produced by accelerators, in the detection of weapons and radioactive material at US border crossings. It provides an in-depth evaluation of two main aspects of Cargo Advanced Automated Radiography Systems (CAARS) operations. The first aspect involves the consideration of all aspects of CAARS radiation safety, including accelerator safety controls, a radiation protection plan for system operators, and an analysis of the range of doses that could be received. The second major area of discussion in the commentary involves CAARS radiation measurement techniques, instrumentation, and dosimetry. In addition, the primary elements of a CAARS quality assurance program are described. B&w photos and images are included. The commentary was prepared by Scientific Committee 6-5 on Radiation Protection and Measurement Issues Related to Cargo Scanning with High- Energy X-rays Produced by Accelerators. There is no subject index.
